Ferrari F40 How do I make this car any good?

Class of 2 as far as I'm concerned... though the 288GTO is right up there.

The 288 GTO Evoluzione was the prototype for the F40, so yeah, I'd agree (completely forgot about it to be honest, and still don't know much about it). Seeing as how the F40 and 959 were designed to the same restrictions and no one else bothered, I'm not surprised there's not much else at the time that can compare!

I love the F40 as it is, though, as long as I'm not trying to win any races in it. It's one of those cars (same as the Speed 12) that I'll drive just for the actual act of driving, not because they're competitive.

You need a fair bit of skill to drive an F40, or indeed any Ferrari, which is why I do crap when using tuned 458 Italia  !

Kaz should give the thread creator a penalty, that doesn`t allows this guy to drive any Ferrari anymore...

Come on... Insulting a Ferrari F40 because... it doesn`t performs as well as modern soulless cars like a GT-R, ZR1 or R8?

This car performs great! I have yet to see a stock pre `87 car humilating it. It sounds great, it feels great, it looks great... it is the ultimate Ferrari! It represents the Scuderia Ferrari much better then a F430 or 599...
A car that seperates boys from men.

Edit:
Im sure that dozens of people on this site had a F40 poster in their rooms when they where younger

You kidding? I still worship the ground that car rolls on. One of the finest driver's cars of its era, and perhaps the finest of its era.

If you're trying to change it just to win a few races, unless there's an RM version of it in GT5 that looks EXACTLY like an F40 LM, then you've got the wrong idea.

I have 2 distinct F40 memories...

When I was in my early 20's (20+ years ago) we had a sales conference in Monaco during the week leading up to the F1 GP weekend. On the Wednesday afternoon I was sat outside the Cafe de Paris in Casino Square and an F40 pulled up outside the Hotel de Paris. Out of the drivers side gets Gerhard Berger, and out of the passenger side gets a stunning blonde, and they both go in to the hotel. I wonder over to have a look at the car... it's ticking and crackling as it cools down and the front end is black due to about 1 trillion dead flys being welded to it. I guess Berger had just driven over from Maranello in it at a fairly rapid pace :D Oh, and he'd left the keys in the ignition!

A few years later I went to a track day at Oulton Park as guest of a mate who owned a 993RS. The organiser of the event had a F40 race car, built to Ferrari Challenge specs. After watching him lap and the car chucking massive flames out of the exhaust on downchanges I managed to get talking to him and blagged myself a few passenger laps... the speed... the noise... one of the best memories of my driving life.

The F40 is a legend in my book, no matter how it compares to modern machinery.

Dude, the F40 is a legend. Put in a new trany (5 gear close ratio or FC) and it will accelerate almost like a modern supercar. Golded the cavallino event with it (race tires and a 5 gear close ratio trany). It's a beautiful car to look at and drive.

So I bought the F40 and so far I've only dropped the weight on it, but its still slow, My Audi R8, Z06, and Lexis LFA10 all run circles around this car, yet none of those are super cars like the F40. I have a rule not to give up on ANY car I purchase in the game. What I want to know before I spend a few hundred grand in mods is does it get better?

Explain to me how the R8, Z06, and LFA are not supercars... I'm pretty sure they are. Especially the fact that the '07 GT-R is considered a supercar. And it weighs 3800 lbs. <--- Sorry i'm American lol. :/

Ulp, this is a "show your age" moment: I had a later model Countach poster on my wall, not a Ferrari :dunce:

Did someone say F40?

The spool up is pretty slow stock. As I recall I did a turbo upgrade, tires and a full customization tranny. Gear it so you stay high in the revs and you'll be happier.

Enjoy, and long live the soulful F40!

Some people have no idea of how you campare cars.

You can´t compare a Ferrari Enzo with a Ferrari F430 or 458, because they run in different classes.

So comparing cars of different classes is really bad for argumentation.

The F40 is maybe in the same class like the 458 or F430 Scuderia...not sure. But it has built 20 years old engineer technique. So of course it isn´t as fast as the modern sports cars.

But to say it´s slow is an epic fail. Maybe you are a slow driver.

The Countach is atleast as legend as a F40 :) Both of them look more futuristic and more like a "supercar" then all those veyrons, koeenininigigigsseggs and appollos.

The 3 cars I love most... a Ferrari F40... a Countach... and... a Ferrari 126C2.

Been driving this one a lot lately, love the car. I'm using sports soft tyres with it and find it to be very pleasant, though the gear ratios are a bit long for my liking thats how it is with the real car and that's cool.

F40 is a legend! I have have a modelled toy back when I was young and getting to drive it in GT5 is a pure joy.

The first time I've drove it was one of the best moments in the game for me.

I LOVE the F40. All my friends are drooling over the 458, Murchielago, Gallardo I prefer the F40 and the older cars. I wish a Muira SV and Diablo SV were in the game...

Anyway, the F40 is a car you drive for the experience. I haven't entered it in 1 race, yet I've used it round the 'Ring, for online free runs, and it's fun to try and control those crazy slides.

To show everyone where I'm coming from, I actually still have mine on its stock Sports Hards and it's very fun. Extremely responsive, visibility's pretty good from cockpit view, makes a very characteristic noise and while not apocalyptically fast in the way that the more modern supercars in the game are, is just fast enough.

The F40 is and has always been a driver's car, and...hmm. If only PD had the license to represent Porsche, then we could have had the 959-F40 showdown lots of people like to talk about when they talk about 1980s supercars.

I haven’t read all of the posts above, so my answer might be covered already.

Back on GT5P, i played with the gearing to help acceleration and did some suspension tuning. As I love this car and is one of my all time favourites, i plan to get the fully customisable suspension (lowering it, playing with toe/camber to help corner stability, grip and exit acceleration) and gearbox which should give you 6 speeds. Also I’d like to lift the HP to about 650hp to match the factory output that was possible.

I just wish they put the F50 in the game...

I adore the F40 in GT5. However, I don't usually race it against other cars (pretty sad when a stock Audi station wagon has more top end at Sarthe...) but on a moonlit, solo Nurburgring, the car becomes quite special.

Having said this, I've always preferred the F50. My first car had a turbo (Merkur XR4ti, still have the little bugger) and I'm just not a fan of turbo engines. Yes, they are great at generating thrust, but they are a bit short on generating character. I've got slightly tuned, n/a 13B RX7 now, and I absolutely adore driving it. Naturally aspirated engines speak to you, they sing to you even. Most of all, they respond to you. Driving a highly tuned n/a machine is something extraordinary, and everyone should experience it at some point.

PD, please, please include my favorite car ever, the F50, in a future update. And don't spoil it by making it sound like a V8

F40 and F50 video, too good not to watch:

I love the F40. Although I don't have the car yet in GT5, I used to rape a lot of competition in it online, in the Ferrari races in GT5:P.

Does it feel the same in GT5 as it did in GT5:P?

You guys are crazy if you're saying theres nothing wrong with the F40 in this game. Yes, the car has only a 2.9L and maybe doesn't produce a whole lot of power before the Turbo kicks in, but the car can't accelerate worth crap from 0-30 without a lot of wheelspin. Just try to launching the car starting at a low RPM (before the turbo hits) or with the traction control on and you'll instantly see what i mean. The sensation of speed is comparable to what it feels like when there are couple people behind you pushing the car.
