In the late 80's and especially throughout the 90's, concept cars tried to make super-sleek bodies - not dissimilar to the Auto Union Streamliner or modern-day NASCAR Stock Cars - in order to look futuristic. Even Ferrari got involved with this mindset, as seen here with this concept car, the Ferrari Mythos.
The Mythos uses the same chassis, 5-speed gearbox and 4.9-litre flat-12 engine as the Testarossa at the time - Ironically, the latter was intentionally designed to not be aerodynamic, putting emphasis on the engine, Follwing Enzo Ferrari's principle that "Aerodynamics are for companies who can't build good engines". The Testarossa's engine produces 390 Horsepower at 6300RPM and 361ft-lbs of torque at 4500RRPM.
It could be possible that some of the design aspects of this concept car, most notably how the body lines leading from the base of the windscreen that wrap around to form a rear wing, went on to be used in the F50 road car.
