The Daily Telegraph
A1GP, the racing series that styles itself as "the world cup of motor sport" has signed an agreement with Ferrari to provide engines and design consultancy services for six years. The new cars will run from the start of season four of the series, starting in autumn 2008.

"I always said that A1GP is going to provide its competitors with the best equipment in motor racing," said series chairman Tony Teixeira. "There's no bigger name in the sport than Ferrari."

The benefits to both parties are apparent. Ferrari gain

advertisementa sporting revenue stream outside of Formula One, while A1GP gain credibility and the right to use the heady phrase "powered by Ferrari" on merchandising.

"I'm tired of people saying 'This will never last', Teixeira told The Daily Telegraph. "We're here to stay."

Seems like a strong step forward for A1GP 👍 Perhaps Ferrari will use this to develop drivers aswell.

Basically: Ferrari started it's own single-seater feeder series, much like Formula BMW, or Flavio Briatore's GP2.

Uh....great! At least now you can't blame Ferrari of sabotaging F1 anymore. But really, i think this is wonderful for both Ferrari and A1GP. I mean not only the facts above, but its also a great way for a rookie driver to prove how good they are and maybe help those rookies get a chance of getting into F1 (other than GP2) This could be something in the making......or not..... 💡

Could be - imagine Ferrari in the future getting a talent like Nico Hulkenberg before anyone else because of this deal.

Which may have been their objective all along.

That said, I think a Ferrari engine deal offers a bit of the stability the A1GP series apparently needs right now.

He’s managed by Weber anyway, and with all those Ferrari connections that Weber has I’m sure Ferrari aren’t building chassis and engines for 6 years just so they can get Nico… Not that people aren’t lining up to drive for Ferrari anyway.
