How do I fix this

This is for sure a internet problem.
With that said,I cannot think of a way to fix this because I dont know if its your connection that does that or its a server problem. If its a server problem (and you have a good connection) there is nothing you can do to "fix" this.
If there is a problem with your connection quality, then improving that could fix connection problems.

I don't have any problems with the other sport mode races just the FIA ones

Why are some cars ghosted and others not when it shows each from 1 to 20 for the starting grid?
Have you tried chatting to other participants in the race afterwards to know what they experienced?
To me, it appears you might have the same issue as Lakebum:

I've had the same/similar thing twice in the FIA races - 40 Mbps fibre line connected via lan cable

Take a look at the other cars moving on laps 8,9,10 in the next clip - I cannot see how an internetconnection can cause them to go in reverse
I would like to see videos of other people in the same race - It was the 2nd race (21:10) of the Manufacturer Series

I thought it was too good to be true GT sport let down again.. I thought sport mode was dedicated servers..I noticed that when it goes through the cars before race a few cars a ghosted out like there internet connection is bad

I still think races in sport mode are not dedicated servers or this wouldn't happen.. it reminds me of project cars all over again..watch from 16 mins onwards
