Does anyone have this game? Are the graphics, sound effects, and the general presentation worth the trouble (compared to PES5/WE9)?

Yes, I do.

If you played FIFA05, then it's a little different. The gameplay is much harder, and getting past the defense and scoring a goal is a lot more difficult to accomplish. Once you get used to it, though, it's not too hard to master.

The graphics are much better, and surpass the previous games by far. If you have Xbox (I don't, but my best mate does), then the graphics are even better yet. The sound effects aren't really anything different, though. The commentators are probably a little less repetitive, but I did enjoy Ally McCoist rather than Andy Gray.

In overall presentation, I really do like FIFA06 much more. The background music, if you do enjoy listening to it, is a little better. The menus are much easier to navigate, and much better looking, and there are more nifty little things to play around with and watch. As for playing the game, I really did enjoy it more. As with all of the FIFA games, though, once you master the art of playing them, playing against the computer is no challenge, though FIFA06 took a little longer to master.

If you have a friend that is of relatively similar skill level on the game, then it's always good.

I definitely recommend getting it.

Graphic: sightly better than WE9/PES5
Sound: much better than We9/PES5
Gameplay: Wayyyy behind We9/PES5 imo, gameplay in FIFA is just....wrong, if you watch and play soccer in real life, you'll know what i mean.

I have the game and I love it. Yeah it handles differently compared to other FIFA games, my last was 03 and 06 took a little getting used to but its a good game. I would also recommend it.

So, I am concluding that FIFA06 has better looks and sounds, but can't match WE9/PES5 in gameplay?
So it's just a vase - pretty outside, hollow inside. <-- Chinese analogy- lol

For the gameplay, in what ways is it different from the authentic feel of soccer/football?

In Fifa, the MFs hardly try to enter opponent's box to get a chance to score, that's why in FIFA, 99% of the goals are scored by the strikers, which is unrealistic, After many years, Fifa still has one big problem is that all the goals look the same and too easy, you don't have the feeling of satisfaction and excitement when after score a goal in FIFA 'cause the goals look too easy, and they are repeated, you'll find yourself score the same goal in exactly the same way over and over again playing FIFA. in Fifa, there are some "magic" spots in front of the penanty box that if you shoot from these spots, the ball will 100% go into the net, and that's just ridiculous IMO.

I haven't played FIFA in a long time, since I met WE on the PSOne actually. The game seems fun and all, but you just can't compare them.

I tried to convince Matt to buy WE instead of FIFA, but he won't listen to me. :indiff:

I guess I should just stick to WE9/PES5 then :P. although it looks nowhere as good. One think I really like in FIFA are the emotions the players express, especially facial emotions. In WE9/PES5, the players are like wax models, no facial emotions (eg: despite goals, red cards).

Its not like this anymore. Goals are amazing, sometimes the ball goes off the post hits the goalie, and falls in. I had so much crazy stuff happen, i was amazed. Goalied are better then ever, act alot smarter.

BTW, i have this for PC.

As for scoring goals, when you first start playing the game, you only seem to be able to get goals in one way, which in my opinion was ridiculous, and very unrealistic. After I started playing a lot more, I found that I could hit home some very impressive goals from on the edge of the area, just inside the box, etc. It really is a game that does take some getting used to.

The main things that bother me are:
  • The fact that the goalkeeper has a very tiny kick, and you can't really whack the ball down the other end of the field if you want to. It always ends up just on the half-way line at the very furthest.
  • On PS2, the CPU teams act ridiculously. They'll play around with the ball, do tricks and not offload the ball, which after a while, it becomes quite easy to snatch the ball off them. That is probably the most annoying thing, though on the Xbox version this problem doesn't seem to occur.
  • The goalkeepers can do some very silly things and be very stupid in an unrealistic way.
  • There's no Argentinian league or Australian A-League. :p
They're pretty much my only issues with this game. As for midfielders not getting around the area to get a chance to score? My midfielders score frequently. The reason why this is not happening for you is because you keep knocking the ball forward and not letting your midfielders a chance to move up near the box. On mine, I pass the ball around, set up plays and midfielders move up. I'm then able to get on the edge of the area and occasionally score some very nice goals.

I am more than willing to try out PES5, but most of the complaints against FIFA06 can be fixed with some practice.

Well i just played PES5, and i dont like anything about it. FIFA is so much more fun, better shots, sounds, graphics, and physics. All shots in PES5 fly pretty damn slow, but in FIFA06, you can really shoot a rocket.

then first, you dont' know how to shoot. I can get a rocket in there. just watch Terry rocket his shot from 35M out. Oh, and have you ever watch real football? Not saying about FIFA since I still can't find the time to go rent it (or play it), but PES5 defintely isn't bad.
