well I got the game for my birthday...( my son told me its great after he played it for 9 hours)....and I finally got to play it last night for a few hours..omg...I have been sucked into the darkside.....:)

I actually really LIKE this game ...the visual / graphics are thee best I have ever seen on PS2.

The story is actually engaging..and so far I like the new Battle system.

I have been kidnapped by Age of Pirates for the PC..but I can see myself sinking some major hours into this game ...its a ten out of ten.

It is simply amazing. And a typical FF game ..so if you like FF..

This is like the Materpiece...except for FFVII....if that ever was remade with this type of graphic quality...It would rule the world of RPG's even more than it does now .:)

👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 from ledhed....

I can totally ruin the ending for you. But I won't.

You'll love it. This ff is actually pretty hard compared to the recent ones, I can gladly say it is on par with FF1 - FF5 difficulty.

There's no actualy class limits, you can do whatever you want with character customizations, theres a hella lot of weapons (I personally go for a Black/Red Mage, Katana, and Bo staff combination).

My favourite change so far has been that the cities in the games are really populated.

There's been a lot of controversy over the fact that the character you play as doesn't actually add to the story, I personally like this. The protaginists are Ashe and Bausch.

Game is too awesome, I havent had the chance to play it for more than 30 hours since I got it a while ago (Japanese).

:)

If anyone is a fan of FF Tactics you will love this...you will recognize the weapons...you are in Ivalice after all...this game is great...

And the bunny babe with the VERY nice rear...nice eye candy too.

Might replace the goth chick from FFX...the one I would use in battle just so she could " take a bow " .

Sick pup doesn't even begin to explain it....

I'm enjoying this game quite a bit. Nicely different from previous FF games. I do like the battle system too. Dynamic and engaging. Wasn't too sure at first. A little slow going perhaps. But it's a huge game. I'm 47 hours in and I'd say I'm around halfway through.
Very good looking game too. Fairly challanging in places, too. I've yet to play the pre-PS1 FF games or FF Tactics. But this is alright. Nice job.

I hate every single one of you that currently posses the game.. :grumpy:

(Any word on the UK release date?)

Oh lord February

Good thing I can play imports

In conclusion, Penelo is utterly utterly useless except for the occasional buff swap.

I bought it on launch day with the collectors edition package... it was a bit shortsighted for me as I don't really have a working TV at home at the moment. That will be remedied soon I hope.

No ones really useless with the right licsense . Its more or less up to you what you want to use a character as...like a job system more or less.

I just wish the sprites changed to reflect the armor they were wearing and such. Thats what seperates a great game from an outstanding one .

Well at least they're consistent with that, I think the only one that had clothing changes was FFXI.

It's a big game. I've done 90 hrs and I guess I'm two thirds through. But I have been farting about quite a bit. I'm sure it'll burn up the holidays, if you get into it of course.

Got it Sunday Night with my last save last night at just over 11 hours. I tried the ship twice and died both times so I went back to the mines and built my characters from a level 8 to a level 16. Needless to say, I dominated the ship scene. For what it's worth, the mines seem like a great place to level up quickly and to get plenty of stones to sell.

Gambits are a cool twist also. Necessary in my opinion with the new battle system.

Anyways, yep....I am totally hooked and consumed by this game. This game has the qualities that made me enjoy FF7 so much back in the day.

Pako ..welcome to the dark side ! :) yes the mines are an excellent place to level...I think I ground it out to level 40 and was almost flush with cah by the time I stopped...

Its SURE not Oblivion ...leveling makes things Sooooooooo much easier..but beware ...you can be lvl 99 and be killed easy by some of the critters in the game without the right spells and equipment and licenses..

I made the mistake of thinking I was all buffed and went an attacked an elemental of some sort...I died horribly .:)

I intend to go back and get even later...seems leveling does NOTHING for your stats except for HP and MP....your equipment determines your stats and damage and such.

Much like FF tactics and a HUGE suprise for me comming from playing Oblivion and Disgaea etc.:)

A true WTH moment .

Although some equipment gets in stores and Bazzara its more from the drops than your level unfortunately.

The good stuff does't appear until later in the game .

This game is a real time killer. Nearly 100 hours and level 48. There are hunts which I know you need to be lvl 70-ish to complete.
I've now got a lot of good magic. Some come quite late, which surprised me. The best stuff is still ways off. Managed to find a few extra Espers, though I rarely use them.
Quickening's can work well. So far best combo is around 10 with 26,000 damage. Useful dealing with some of the later bosses.
Still, before I continue I need a few more levels and loads more money. Stuff gets really expensive later and hunting for the right items to sell to receive bazaar stuff is pretty time consuming.
I haven't looked at another game in over a week.

I got everyone at level 99 from Grinding ...you do know there are Items that give you increased exp and LP ? but levels didnt do anything for me except prevent me from advancing the game beyond the warrior villiage.
I spent almost every minute building up levels and collecting stuff to sell...the area right before you get to warrior village and the jungle are awsome palces to level and loot BTW.

I can see this game taking me 60 hours more to Complete easy. I do the hunts BTW instead of advancing the game plot and any other side quest ..as long as a save crystal is available I have gotten some great stuff early and that allowed me to get even more stuff in areas that wiped my party out..those freaken elementals are killers !:) But they drop great stuff if you live.

My best chain BTW was 15 ...nice area affect after ..picked up a bunch of little bags after that fight ...:)

Only level 48 after 100 hours ? Where and what were you doing all that time ????

If you want high chains, keep killing the same enemy type.

Highest chain I've gotten so far is 250, then I got bored.

Oh yea, high chains exist because they give you better items, alot better items.

Yeah, I've been wandering around a lot! Actually it's more like 95 hours. Trying to find all the items for bazaar stuff and so on and doing a lot of searching for side-quests. Plus I may have added an hour or two whilst eating, talking, otherwise being indisposed.
All said though 95 hours of fun. Recently added a new Esper (5 in all - 3 of them are extras). Tricky fight, lots of status effects. But now got quite a few good gambits so it does make life a little easier.
Got to the point where beating rare monsters leaves items that can be used for armour/weapons but not from the bazaar. That's taking me a few hours too.
There is lots to do. Shame there isn't a percentage meter on the game. I wonder how much I've done. Filled up half of the Bestiary and around 30 of the 80 rare monsters. Tons more to do.👍

I think ledhed means the Quickening combos. I'm getting better. Did 12 against that Esper. Best monster chain is around 170-ish. Make sure you have the monographs when you do a lot of chaining.

I am so far behind you its pitifull...I just finished the Mountain and got the King sword...but I have all level 99 characters from hanging out near save crystals and killing stuff...I aslo maxed out my money...thats what usually prods me along to advance the story...I have more than enough lp to clear the board. So since I realized that that to get equipment I need to move on I regretably have stopped farming.....not...I was soooooo happy when Penelo finally hit 99...NO MORE MINDLESS GRINDING ! The story is awsome...the next time I play the game straight up. In fact I got a CB 9.3 for the new game . No more 20 hours spent running in circles killing stuff for exp.

I'm only Level 30 on my way to get the sword right now... LOL

Where did you find the best place for 'farming'?

Still lovin' the game.

Wow... all the places you are not supposed to go basicaly...if the guide I am using says " dont go here the enemies are level 40"...its like waving a beer in front of me on friday night. Ozmone plains...leads to so many other places..the trick is to find a save crystal...run away from everything until you do and stay in that area until you can kill everything easy ..then go sell all the stuff and see what new items appear . I spent way more time being in places i wasn't supposed to ..just becuse they gave more exp...thee green bars and the werewolves early on...you get you butt kicked but its doable..and its like 200 plus exp for everyone you kill...I'm killing stuff at 400 a pop in the jungle and the mines / caverns that I'm not supposed to be in .

But now that I have everyone at level 99 i found its not all its cracked up to be...your EQUPMENT then your spells and strategy do more for you then your level...crap I was getting my Butt kicked by elementals until I finally got the demones bane sword.

But I'm done power leveling...time to enjoy the game the story is getting great and ....god forbid i am starting to actually LIKE some of the Carachters..

The Pirate Bosh and fran are it for me...Although the princess is cool...I'm a bit too old in the head to Identify...and Vahn???

I NEVER want to be 17 again ...even by proxy ...

I played from about 11 pm or so when my wife and I got home from our stress release program ( the bar ) . I played from then until 11 am in the morning ( much to the wifes ...ummm displeasure...I think she had other games in mind...but hey perks of being married ..always another night..or day right ? ) 💡 ...I woke up about three pm...I'm almost ready to go back for more..

Arggggggggggggg I'm turning into a NERD !!!!

KARMA STRIKES BACK !

I used to stuff them in trash cans in school and roll them down stair cases !!!

Payback time ....:)

 Karma does have it's ways...

I found a nice little pedestal inside the Stilshrine. It's right at the entrance once inside, and each time you press it, 3 zombies appear. So far I'm getting plenty of chaining and experience.

I'm basically doing the same thing as you except I don't have any guides telling me where to go. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out on an easy lunch. ;)

Upon further experience in calling these zombies, although it's easy to "Chain" you only get 1 exp point per three zombie kills. So, might be good for getting stuff, sucks for leveling.

This game really eats up time. Currently trying to find all the sisters on the airships. One more to find but don't know which route.
Started the fishing mini-game too.
Deeper in the Stilshrine you can get decent undead chains, say around 70 odd. They drop Icebrands (+65 and Ice damage), handy against some beasties if you don't have a high weapon.
I'm using three Deathbringers at the moment (+90 and possible KO) and the Fomalhaut gun (+50). Makes life a little easier against 54,000HP Wyrms.

Argh, this nerd thing is spreading...

I have got to take a brake... Anyways, Main character at Lvl 34 and just got the kings Sword. I think I need to upgrade some more as well...

The Icebrands are nice, but where'd you get the Deathbringers? They sound oh so nice. ;)

It's better if all your characters are at the same level.

Do you use everyone during a boss fight or just rely on the 3 that you have when you encounter the boss?

Wow.... don't leave that place its an excellent place to level ...and you have that save crystall in the basement! Just do the circuit and save...you should have a load of teleport stones ...you telaport to a bazaar...go to the fort and get stuff from the vendors..the Demonsbane sword is a drop and its in a chest in the other place where you fought the wall ...uou have to keep trying till it appears in the freaking chest. The death bringer sword I just got from ..I have NO idea..My eyes were bleeding . But better level everyone up ! swap out as needed...there's a armlet or something you get at the Bazaar for selling crap that gives extra exp. I have one I just swap in and out...or used to...all my guys are 99 now. You can go into the forrest and the jungle and score major exp . And loot and teleport ....teleporting is huge because it gives you a base to work from for leveling and loot disopsal. BTW don't sell the stones ... Teleport stones that is .

For laughs USE Pennello as a Mellee fighter...the animations and noises are a hoot ! Plus you need to level the bedbug anyway... I have all her gambits on support..like curaga and esuna and haste...so I have to turn them all off ( 'cept for attack nearest foe ) at times so she earns exp.
Lp is long ago used up and all spots on thee board filled up except for espers...only have two .

You have to get the key for the Barheim Passage back at the Dalmasca Estersands. It's a bit involved. Basically do the hunt for the Flowering Cactoid, speak to someone called Dantro once it's done (he's the one that put up the bill) and then carry out some simple things (like finding items etc). This gets someone healed in the village by the river in Estersand and he gives you the key. Once inside there's a rare monster that appears called Ithuno (I think) and you steal the Deathbringer from it. As long as you don't kill it you can steal multiple times (though you'll have to leave, save and find it again - being rare it's not always there and it's a mimic of a treasure chest). It's a bit long drawn out and you need to be ideally around lvl 35, but you can do it at a lower lvl, but it's a tough area.
I only found this out when a mate told me. It's a hard fought find, but worth it. It ko's around 20% of the time, but it varies on the enemy. Does come in handy though, particularly if you have 3 of them!

I ' ve used most of these...in fact I thought the dead lands and the dead city were my dirty little secret...I got Maximillian Armor ! as a drop...but no save crystal so you can easily get a game over . One of the reasons I have not posted about it is because I had a real hard time living long enough to explore the place and get out...I had blundered into it...but one of my leveling and looting rules is a handy save crystal.

But anyway here is a whole list of power leveling and looting tips...

Yeah, Nabudis and the Nabudis Dead lands west of Salikawood. That's where you can get the Zodiac Spear. Accept I can't because I opened treasure I should'nt have!
I've tried to stay away from guides and such because I want to be surprised but once or twice I've looked up specific things, or specific help. Probably why I'm 110 hrs into the game. It can take an hour just getting a rare item!
