the problem is, due to disease status, the thread only has 1 HP left.

Just kidding, I bought the game second hand a few weeks ago, I completed the game after 107 hours, the end battles were a bit easy in my opinion, but still very satisfying, the new game system is excellent, the story and character exploration was a little weak in comparison to FFX, but still a decent enough story, I would just like to see a bit more character background and generally interesting cut-scenes that aren't particularly fundamental to the plot.

My Quick review, Very good game 9/10

I'm playing through this game now, I played FF7 and love it, I wasn't overly keen on 9 or 10, whichever the first PS2 one was. But this one so far is pretty good, I'm just pretty slow at these games because I don't spend much time on them. It'll probably take me about 100-110 hours to complete, but that's equals half a year playing for me .

I'm actually re-playing it right now.
I still love the Gambit system and the more dynamic battle system. I was looking at some video of Blue Dragon, the new RPG by Hironobu Sakaguchi for the 360, and although pretty it looked rather out dated in terms of gameplay and game style. Too similar to his Final Fantasy games of old.
I hope Square continue with FFXII's Gambit system and more realistic battle system for FFXIII. My only complaint is the story and characters were a bit lacking in FFXII. Reminded me of a Star Wars prequel! (Yes, that bad! )

I believe that if you hit him with the Yagyu Darkblade for about two hours, Yiazmat will fall. There's probably more strategy to it than that, but I wouldn't know since I'm only going through Giza Plains in the wet.

I was halfway through this game and I got bored. The story just didn't interest me as much as the previous games.

I don't know. A massive Quickening chain might help, especially if you get the Black Hole Concurrence (you need four Quickenings from each level to get it; this and Whiteout are the only two I haven't managed). I believe you can leave the arena to save, but if you stay too long, he starts tog et all his health back.

But I can't say for sure; I rented the game for a week and made it to the Mosphoran Highwaste. I was going to renew the rental for another week, but I figured there'd be no point in buying the game outright when I return from uni at the end fo the year (but hopefully we'll be able to ge tthe International edition then; FFX International was available in Australia as the standard game when FFX proper went Platinum). Also, I found every boss really easy (but normal fights could be difficult), probably because I got all the Quickenings straight away and neglected to upgrade my weapons, armour, spells, augments and the like.

Quickenings are not that effective. Its only for extending your mp pool. black hole is difficult to com into. After 60 hours before I got Black hole. Its based on luck to chain to get it.

Never seen an international edition of a FF game released in the UK or US for that matter at least not FFX. I do hope FFXII International does get a world wide release as it adds a fair amount to the game and makes it very rplayable. I'd certainly get it. Perhaps Square-Enix will as it'd be their last PS2 game?

Well, I bought FFX after it went Platinum and found several things in it that made it the International Version, namely the inclusion of Penance and the Dark Aeons, Omega Weapon having over 1,000,000 HP and the Ribbon auto-ability for armour. That's how you can tell if your FFX is the International Edition, so I'm hoping FFXII will be the same by the end of the year.

I know the original UK release of FFX had the Dark Aeons and Penance etc. Was that released before or after the Japanese International version (it came pretty late to Europe)? I was of the opinion that the Japanese International versions WERE the UK/US versions re-released in Japan. I know that FFVII originally didn't have the extra Weapons in the Japanese release but were added to the UK/US release and then that version was released as the International version in Japan.
The difference with FFXII International is that it's not the UK/US version being re-released. It's a completely new version that no one has played.

It's possible but I wonder how manywill it sell? I guess that depends on how popular FF is in the US and the EU in comparison to Japan. The US might get it. I doubt the EU will. But I have an NTSC PS2 so that's okay! I hope it does come!👍

I'm pretty sure FFXII International is simply FFXII with a few extras bolted on: a time-trail mode pitting you against one of every enemy in the game, a set of job-specific licence boards, a New Game+ mode (speculation is that it will take your end-of-gmae characters and let you start again with a second job), the ability to hold one of the shoulder buttons to let the game run at twice normal speed and the choice between Japanese and English voice acting.

I'm also fairly certain that the FFX International Version that we received here in PAL territories was exactly the same as the Japanese edition. I can't speak for FFVII or FFX-2, though, as I haven't played them. That said, even if we don't get the "International Zodiac Jobs Edition" of FFXII, I'll still get the normal one. It's probably the best game I've ever played.

Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System is awesome!!!!! The Zodiac job system replaces the license board with twelve different license board each assigned a zodiac symbol. Near the beginning of the game you have to choose one zodiac sign license board per each character and no two characters can have the same one. This essentially divides the license board into 12 jobs. I have a red mage, a time mage, a white mage, a katana dude, and a breaker (berserker). Now instead of having all your characters with all the same spells. Each character develops differently.

Also, after you finish the game you can start again in 'strong mode' so that you can start anew with your level you obtained from the previous game. Beat it again and you get 'weak mode' which lets you play the game again without gaining a single experience point.

The Trial mode is a series of boss fights and if you get slammed you can continue with the story mode and bulk up your characters and then try the trial mode again.

It's awesome!!!!!!

I finally got around to buying this game yesterday - it was on sale - and, being forced to start again since I'd lost the thread of the story since last time I played it, I instantly noticed that it seems much harder since then, but I'm also getting more "good" drops. I'm still kicking myself for breaking a 99-chain very early on (I was aiming for 100 and it was in the early Sunstone/Shadestone sequence; I went to the last stone, got taken to the kid and then the village, automatically breaking it).

hm ... where to start. a bit of a rant i suppose.

the game clock says im at 93:44:xx though i dont think thats 90% accurate since it still counts down in the save menu and i didnt know that until it too late.

vaan is my weakist link at level 37 while ashe is at level 53. all elementals arent a problem any more as long as ive a chance to get reflect on everyone before the fight starts. and, thanks to the armor ashe is wearing and my gambit set up, ive been able to easyly slay leamonde entites as long as there isnt anything else in the fight. i wonder if i can take on salamander entite in the sand sea ... ive killed a crystal bug too.

my last storyline boss (elder wyrm) barely scratched my characters (they were lvl 30-45). the bigst rare game ive killed (i forgot about collecting them!) was a helvinek with its mighty 99,999hp and disable spells.

i think i should be dropping larsa off somewhere, but, whatever. hes an extra target/sword so hes stayed to help me with numerous mark hunts already. worthless in my level up area (nabreus deadlands). apparently lvl49 dead bones are a bit too much for him to handle

ive been mostly exploring and hunting marks for the moment. ive two regular marks and one elite mark at the bottum of the lihus(sp) mines to take care of. i need to find the keys to the locked doors in the necrohal of nabudis to get what im presuming are more summons. and, i only have two summons, the storyline summon and the one at the bottum of zertinan caverns. (i also used that place to level up some too)

im in love with the battle system. i hope we never see a stand-in-lines-opposite-from-each-other-and-take-turns-attacking FF again. the combat feels more like real combat and more alive than previous FF's. still, its still turn/time/roll of dice based comabt, but still. itd also be nice if combos werent completely random.

do you sell all or your loot or keep some?

the license board im mixed on since im so far a head, i dont know to unlock anymore.

how do you get the tablet at the top of nabreus deadlands/over looking eternity? i thought itd just be there for the taking after fighting your way up there, but, nope! and i could really look around since the dead bones kept popping up everywhere anytime i moved.

im eager to when i can find some more stronger 1h weapons. right now my strongst weapons are franseca(sp) a 1h, a couple of kitanas, and a yoichi bow + parallel arrows. though ive given up on bows for the time being. why do two handed weapons have basically no evade? and what do measure's do?

my largst creature string was 220+ before getting bored. 99 bone fragments makes a lot of gil too. gil hasnt been a problem though.

umm ... probably more to come later ... and, yes, this is my first time through. heh.

You have to do the longest and most annoying side-mission in the game. I don't know how much of if you've done, so I'll post the lot: finish the Orthos and White Mousse hunts to get fragments and talk to the Nu Mou near the save crystal in the Deadlands. Go back to Dalan's house and talk to the Nu Mou there (he won't be there unless you visit the one in Nabraeus). You'll then need to talk to Kytes and complete and to-and-fro exercise involving a woman with no memory outside the central fountain in Rabanastre proper and an Imperial in the magic shop. You'll also need to visit the Overflow Cloaca of the Waterway and open several of the gates (can't remember which) to get another fragment. You should have three fragments altogether when you return to Dalan's house.

You then have to go to Archadia and find another Nu Mou, this time in one of the shops in the northern section. He'll tell you to find anotehr medallion; you'll find it by talking to a man in Old Archades. Return to the Nu Mou and then go to the Deadlands. You'll find the three Nu Mou where you talked to the original one near the save crystal. They'll tell you a bridge used to run across to the tabernacle, but has since fallen into disrepair. They'll be waiting for you when you now go to Overlooking Eternity and will give you the third medallion. You can now fight Fury, the Hubamba Mistant and the Esper Chaos inside the Necrhol.

Finish the Antlion hunt and you can get the Fomalhaut, the best gun in the game. It might have just 50 attack power, but guns ignore defence stats.

If you ignore the chest outside Dalan's house, those in the Palace cellars, the confiscatory and the 16 chests in the easternmost section of the Phon Coast, you can find the game's best weapon, the Zodiac Spear, inside the Necrohol of Nabudis (it's possible to get this as early as te sinking ofLeviathan, but it takes a hell of a lot of luck). If you opened any of those chests, you can find the Zodiac Spear insde the Henne Mines Phase 2 Dig, but you'll need ten espers beforehand.

You can get the Masamune (best katana) as a reward for completing the Gilgamesh hunt (Ancient Man of Mystery). The best measure, Euclid's Sextant can also be acquired as a reward for completing a hunt, but it heals on hit. Measures are like guns; they ignore defence, but they're pretty useless.

so, basically i cant do it yet because in the storyline im on the way to archadia for the first time.

where is dalans house?

[edit - i made a lot of gil of the skeletons in the lihus mines where they keep spawning on the bridge. selling 99 bone fragments is 32k gil iirc.]

Currently I'm in the Silikawood. Where is a good place to steal loot/make money?
Have you killed Thextera (the second mark)?

If not, do so. Talk to the petitioner in the Sandsea Bar and he'll tell you he has something waiting for you over in the Muthru Bazaar. Go and visit him and you'll be able to buy the Hunter's Monograph for 18,000 Gil. It might sound expensive, but it increases the drop rate for certain enemies and allows better loot to be dropped.

While you're at it, talk to the owners of magic shops, weapons stores and armour stalls thirty or so times to unlock more monographs that will increase the drop rate for other types of enemies. Also talk to a street vendor 100 times as this does the same thing. It doesn't have to be the same street vendor or shop owner, only that you talk to them. Monographs cost between 18,000 and 23,000 Gil, but they're certainly worth it. Just be prepared to get a whole heap of Pebbles, which are useless as they sell for just 2 Gil. Also sell Hothraky's Flame, the Demios Clay and one other one with a similar name (can't remember it exactly, but they're all rewards for completing certain mark hunts) to unlock the Morbid Urn in the bazaar. This will give you the Canopic Jar, which allows monsters to drop Arcana and more rare loot, but will cost you 250,000 Gil.

As for places to spam loot drops, I'd recommend Shunia Twinspan (nickanmed Skeleton Alley by fans) in the Lhusu Mines. It's the second bridge, just after the forked path where one side is closed. This only ever spawns undead monsters and once you've crossed it simply run down the stairs to one side, return to the beginning of the bridge and begin again. It's very easy to get a chain in excess of 200 here, which is good as the more you chain, the more loot enemies will drop. If the skeletons stop spawning, simply flee two screens in either direction and then flee back to the Alley, which resets the spawns but not your chain.

Other places I'd recommend are Simoon Bluff in the Nam-Yensa Sandsea, which is populated by creatures called Bagoly. Be careful not to kill Axebeaks as it will break your chain, but if you get all the Bagolys up on the tank and the bluff proper, you can acquire an item called a Bent Staff, which will sell for about 1,000 Gil each. I'd also recommend revisiting the Henne Mines for the high number of bat-type creatures (and Jelly in the junctions, if you're daring enough), the Greensnake and The Shred in Ozmone Plains for the Wu (similar to Bagoly but not as numerous), and some areas of the Paramina Rift such as Silverflow's End and The Spine of the Icewyrm may yield some good drops, though enemies are a little sparse and very varied in their types, so chaining might prove difficult. But it's also home to the Twintania and the only Emperor Aevis in the game plus some Garuda-Egi (like the one you fought at Raithwall's Tomb but not requiring Eksir Berries to defeat), all of which have some decent drops.

If you're really up to it, pay a visit to the Athroza Quicksands in the Zertinan Caverns. You'll have to fight Adrammelech who is flying and has roughly 30,000HP, but the area frequently spawns zombie-like creatures even after he's yours, which can give you three different loot items that will sell for over a thousand Gil each (or close enough): blood-stained necklaces, platinum daggers and bones. You may wish to try chaining Mallicants on the way in (southern approach from Ozmone), but they're quite strong and have the annoying habit of teleporting and you can't damage them until they re-materialise (they, however, can hit you). It's worth it, though, as you can get Magick Lamps (2,000 Gil apiece) and Grimoire Togails (750-ish each) and plenty of EXP.

I'm not sure. I suppose you might be able to get it on your first visit to Archades if you've already acquired the fragmets from Orthos and the amnesiac woman in Rabanastre, but I wouldn't know; I didn't do the sub-quest until I wanted Chaos and he was the second-last Esper I acquired (after Ultima; I still don't have Zodiark yet). However, if you've been into the Necrohol of Nabudis, you can get the Zodiac Spear. It's one of the sixteen chests in the middle of the dungeon (ie it will take you just as long to get to it if you approach from Nabraeus or the Salikawood). I'm fairly certain it's the second from the left in the front row of the sixteen (they're in a 4x4 grid), but I could be wrong. Whatever you do, don't get the chests I told you to skip, and don't equip the Diamond Armlet when you open the chest containing the Spear (but do equip for the other 15 as you'll only get a Knot of Rust and they're one-time-only chests). The alternative, like I said, is to open the Henne Mines Phase 2 Dig, but the Zodiac Spear is even further away from the entry than Zodiark is.

If you've been to the Necrohol, be sure to pay a visit to the secret shop; it's hidden down the end of the long corridor that apparently goes nowhere on the map that connects to the Salikawood. It's in a hidden area (does not appear on map) and you have to get right into the corner to trigger the shop (kind of like opening a treasure chest). A Baknamy Merchant named ??? will appear and he's got some of the best spells, Technicks and armour in the game like Scathe, Telekinesis and the Maximilian.

And don't EVER use Euclid's Sextant as it adds Bubble status on hit.

where is dalans house?
Dalan's house is in the Lowtown of Rabanastre, right next to South Gate. It's where Vaan learnt of the Crescent Stone and the way into the palace secret passage and later received the Sword of the Order to give to Vossler. You'll probably remember Dalan as the creepy old guy with dark skin, little hair on his head, a white beard and a funny way of speaking (even funnier than Marquis Ondore).

Now if anyone has any ideas for how to take on Pylraster, I'm open to hear them. I just got annihilated by him when one more hit from me would have done the same to him.

so, no zodac spear for me for a little while. im not too worried about it since i was over powering the storyline and the last elite mark i did (antlion). i know what room you mean as it had a lot of knot of rusts. i also know exactly which room/hall youre talking about because i found it, but, not the store. i think ill need more than 100k gil though to get everything ill need/want.

itll be a little while before i head over up to archadia because 5-6 new marks popped up. theyre more important than the storyline :)
