I've noticed this but for some reason, nearly every race in the last lap I seem to screw up & put it in the kitty litter or in a wall! Does this happen to anyone else cos I find it weird that I have a perfect race & then 🤬 it up on the final lap resulting in 6-10 mins of my life wasted!

That sucks! Ive done that also, now I take a break, halfway through long stints,to reset my brain.

I ran out of fuel on the last corner of the last lap of my first enduro. Luckily I had a 4 lap lead so was able to just coast over the line!

Could be related to tyre damage depending on the event, which obviously worsens near the end. Other than that, it's your driving/bad luck i guess

I was just racing in a championship in my bugatti against an audi s3 and on the last lap I thought i could overtake him instead i wasn't paying attention, rammed into the back of him and crashed into a wall

It happens to a lot of us (me included). I had to do Dreamcar 3 times yesterday to win the championship due to this.

I attribute it to a lack of full concentration, or maybe its just excitement (ooh I'm gonna win!), but I noticed this happens more often when there are outside distractions of some sort, even the most minor ones.

happened to me online, at monza i came out the last corner a bit faster than the guy in second. i kept thinking should i go left or right because he blocked me before, instead i turn too slow and bump into him

Risk management. If you are in first on the last lap, you need to pace down to lower risk.
GT5 has the physics where mental and physical fatigue occurs so a good driver must be strategic..

Right-o, the physics determine how quickly a human driver loses concentration.

He was referring to B-spec?

OT: I do the same thing as the OP; but that's just loss of concentration.. A quick break in a longer race will solve the problem for me.

in long events, towards the end my mind is somewhere else and i'm on auto pilot, mistakes are made...

6-10 minutes? You haven't done the FGT championship yet, I see. What's worse is going off into the sand on Lap 20/20. Fortunately on most tracks catching up in the FGT is incredibly easy as long as you have your transmission set correctly. Still, you have to use extra care on the last lap, and after 20 laps it's easy to miss a corner or two.

It's all about maintaining focus/concentration in an endurance race. Some people may laugh at me, but I'm serious about it. Once someone gets a couple laps lead on the AI, they can become complacent.

When I get into first, I often end up in the kitty litter too.
But it's always completely my fault, but my mistake doesn't cost me the win.
On the last lap, I often try to set a Best Lap time of the race, I'm now wiser.

I thought this thread would be about pulling the handbrake as you cross the finnish line, and that time I got confused and picked the wrong line

I'm usually pretty good with this, but yesterday I messed up on the main straight of the nurburgring driving a stock R390 GT1 in GT all stars and lost. I was pretty confused, making no mistakes for a nurburgring lap then messing up on the straight...

I used to dislike Suzuka in GT4 for this very reason. It seemed to be the only track that I could ever screw up on the last lap on. These days I still manage to run off into the sand or bump into the wall or something else stupid on the last lap (yes I've done it at Suzuka recently). And then of course then the jackrabbit AI goes screaming past en route to a 5 second victory even though I only lost 2 seconds by grazing the sand trap but let's not go there.

That's one of my favorite parts of the race!

In two online races the other day, I crossed the finish ahead of a good opponent by as little as 0.5 seconds both times, and they were recorded the win. Good times.

👍

It's a written law in racing games that it all must go wrong on the last lap. Been happening to me since TOCA 2 days.

In two split screen races the other day, I yanked the handbrake too early on circuits I didn't really know and came to a stop facing backwards, several yards from the finish line. The lesson: "Cross the finish line, then celebrate". :p

I used to have this same last lap crashing problem, too. It literally was (for me) just a lack of focus. I would start daydreaming and not following my line, spying apex and exit points or even braking points :scared:

I just disciplined myself into constantly being aware of where I was on the circuit and what was coming next, and what was after that. When I was younger, I could happily run endurance races on "autopilot", but I think that was more about being "in the zone". I can't really do that anymore, for some reason - I think it's because I've tried the real thing in the mean time, so the physical aspects are missing now.

Sounds like a case of ADD... or extreme boredom. :D

I always crash on the penultimate lap. I start slowing down a bit and think just keep it on the road and just go straight off into the nearest gravel trap. Then i drive like a madman on the last lap if i've lost places and i'm fine

How about accidentally going into a pit? I've done that a few times.:dunce:

"Last Lap" is a state of mind to me. Depending on your position, this is where you either make your last push for the top spot or where you slow down in order to keep your lead and/or composure.

As for pitting...I'm never confident with doing that because I tend to try to do that on purpose. I want to show off sometimes by winning in the pits instead of on the track proper.

I mess up on purpose some times. like when i do a race against some REALLY slow cars when i have a really fast one i get so far ahead i could completely stop some times or go in reverse for a bit. maybe a hand brake spin across the line or hand brake into reverse at a speed above that cars reverse speed.

I find that for most races, I'm only really conscience about the race for the first and last laps, which are also my slowest. Anything in between tends to be my "zone out" area, where I'll be thinking of something completely unrelated to racing/GT5/cars, like what I want for a snack. These tend to by my fastest laps, and when I snap to around the last lap, I suddenly start making simple errors like entering a corner too hot, etc.

So yeah, I get these too.

That happens sometimes to me too! I would try very hard to do a fast lap then when I cool down & forget about fastest laps I end up getting one! Soz if this is a lil bit OT!

Funny you should say that... me and my friend were going round a custom track on arcade and he was easily beating me by 3 or 4 seconds when he decideds to pull the handbreak and cross the line backwards...

...he came up short of the line, hesitated and then tried to reverse... I ended up by beating him by something like 0.010 of a second, he wan not happy :D

on a few occasions when I have been leading on the last lap by a comfortable margin, I have been checking/admiring how far out I'm in front only to miss a braking point and go off :dunce:
