Feeling very happy; just passed my driving test! Got 6 minors (any Brits will understand). Just have to insure the Mini (which will be done within a week or so) and I can finally drive. Anyone else taking their test soon?

Well done Roo. Happy driving!

Do you also have to use L-plates (or P-Plates..) on your car like our Aussie friends?

There was L-plates on the car I learned in (my instructor's), but I didn't on my car (I haven't driven it on the road yet.) It's a legal requirement to have L-plates when learning, but I don't think P-plates are needed legally afterwards.

They aren't legally required (sure you passed your theory? :D) - but you may find them useful.

Nice one Roo 👍.
I'm gonna book my test up soon, just had 11 lessons so far.
Have you got quoted yet for insurance on the mini?
You gonna go solo on insurance or under your parents?
6 minors is good. What did he do you on?

I'm shopping around for insurance at the moment. I've had quotes ranging from £840 to £1,700. I want to have my own insurance, so I can build up a no-claims bonus (assuming I don't wrap the Mini round a tree or something).

I got 2 minors for steering, 2 for moving off badly, 1 for observation at a junction and 1, in a section called 'Progress', named 'appropiate speed'.

Yes, the avatar is real. We have a program on TV here called 5th Gear and they attempted to beat the longest car and caravan jump. They set a new record of 180-odd feet, if memory serves.

Insurance is legalised theivery. It's stupid. I got a quote for a nissan micra the other day. I was quote £3000. But then again also got quoted about £800 for a 1.4 clio.
Same for me, all of my mates are going on their parents insurance, but that means they don't get a no claims. So I'm going solo like you.
The test nowadays is now so stupid. It seems that they let really stupid drivers on the roads nowadays, but some how the naff ones still get through.
