Congrats!

Yours is the 2.2L right? They don't sell that over here.

Yes, mine is the 2.2L. The improved town driving is nice, but a 9k redline would be hella fun (: If in the future I find myself longing for a track car I might put that engine in something even smaller and lighter.

I'm waiting for a pretty day to take pictures in our state parks. Unfortunately it's looking like the Northwest around these parts and I can't get five minutes of sunshine. What a great time to own a convertible!

Alright! Good job and many congrats to ya! Any regrets at all? Is it everything you hoped it would be?

The day when you finally buy the car of your dreams is a special day for every car guy. I can clearly remember every detail of the drive home when I got mine. Congrats on your S2000; great choice years ago, great choice today! 👍

Now... POST PICS! Quit teasing us!

Regrets: I'm a dreamer, and now I have one less thing to dream about.

Pictures in due time my friends. The weather sucks here and I'm not taking pictures of this car with the top up or in a garage. Those are lame and there are thousands of them over at s2ki.com. My pictures will kick ass (:

Well hopefully your pictures are as cool as your new avatar. If only I had the stuff to back up an 8,000rpm redline...

Oh!

Now go make yourself known in the Honda Fan Club. You're welcome there now, bud, and it sounds like you've already done some research on your S2000s. You'll be the only one driving a "proper" car over there. I'm not sure if you've been down with Hondas before this purchase, but I hope this car lets you understand better why we love our Hondas.

That's awesome, glad to hear it! You know

but you could take some interior shots to pacify the masses. 👍

That's actually his old avatar. ;) I don't think he's used it since around '04...

I think I have an 8k RPM avatar around here somewhere. And I can back it up :D

ORLY? I didn't know that they made a Z4 M in FWD did they M-Spec? :D

I've maybe seen LoudMusic post ONCE the entire time I've been here.

Yeah, thats a lot of posts! I've only been here since maybe last August. I love this place, hence the 3K+ posts I've made. :)

Actually years ago, they designed a series of wrong wheel drive test mules. But it had most of the engine and tranny hung over the front axle and therefore handled like a trainwreck. It was such a terrible design the brass in Munich fired everyone on the development team and they ended up selling the prototype to some chumps from Zuffenhausen, who ended up mounting the seats and dash backwards. You can actually still buy the car today; they call it a 911 :sly:

Back on topic... So what color IS the interior?

M

Black. Honda is weird with their color options. You can't get any exterior with any interior. And certain markets only get certain combinations. In the US Laguna Blue only gets black leather. But in some European countries you can get it with brown leather, which isn't partnered with any exterior color here. And not all the paint colors are even available here. The only exterior that currently has an option is gray, and the option is between all black interior and black with red centers in the seats. The only thing that gets blue interior in the US is the light blue paint, which they don't offer here anymore.

Here's the kicker. All S2000s are built in the same shop then shipped internationally. I've not personally attempted this, but other S2ki members claimed to have called Honda and requested a specific color combo be shipped to them, time not an issue, and Honda refused. My dad suggested perhaps it has to do with the small market and exclusivity. If you can only get a certain mix in Norway then Norway S2000 owners have something extra to feel special about. And by changing the color options in a region periodically the small group of us that actually do buy them have a reason to trade for a new one (along with the bi-annual feature additions).

My first choice would have been black and tan, or perhaps brown. But we don't get that here and I'm not interested in doing an interior swap, which I have seen done.

Exterior Colors (largely named after race courses)
International
Monza Red
Burgundy
Royal Navy Blue
Monte Carlo Blue
Moonrock

Silverstone
Sebring Silver
Suzuka Blue (Internationally Nurburg Blue)
Laguna Blue (Internationally Bermuda Blue)

Interior Colors
International

Black dash with all brown seats
US colors (also international)
All black
Black with red seat centers
Black dash with all red seats
All red
Blue
Tan

Current S2000 Color options for US

Some areas, namely Japan, I think get to mix and match from all colors available for the year (which has been nearly every color nearly every year). But most markets get a select group of colors. I assume the NSX was done the same way. The NSX, S2000, and Insight are all built exclusively in the same facility in Japan.

In North America our cars were 'upgraded' from the 2L engine to a 2.2L engine in 2004. The new engine had slightly more torque but the same HP, switched VTEC earlier and redlined earlier. All cars internationally received a glass rear window soft top in 2002. Also in 2004 all cars internationally got a wheel bump from five spoke 16" wheels to ten spoke 17" wheels, and a new transmission with tighter 1-5 and a higher 6. There is a color matched removable aluminum 44 pound hard top from Honda which has a full sized rear window with defroster and ceiling liner, along with several other tops from Spoon, Mugen, and Mooncraft - using carbon fiber and fiberglass, but have smaller rear windows and no 'extras' (they cost more too! WTF!?!). Honda has made some minor improvements every-other-year to the S2000, and sometimes even on the in between years. They've added several storage compartments along with a clock on the dash (yes, it originally shipped without a clock), Vehicle Stability Assist, and cup holders (which happen to place the cup in the way of the driver's shifting arm).

Somewhere in the middle of this rambling I'm going to point out that I've already done 113MPH chasing three crotch rockets in the countryside. That's not the fastest I've ever been in a car (took my '87 Accord up to 115, and rode in a friend's '87 RX-7 up to 130), but it was the most noise I've ever made with a car. And my wife squealed real loud too - it was cool (: The bikers seemed to enjoy themselves as well. My wife also pointed out she feels like she's "in the club" now. Cruising bikers and other convertible owners seem to be more friendly to us when we're out with the top down. There's something about people who buy vehicles not for transportation but specifically for the enjoyment of driving them - it puts them in a group together.

I've seen a lot of videos people have made of their S2000s - most of them are pretty lame. But there are a few track videos people have made on Nurburg and a few in the US. It's pretty enjoyable to watch, especially if you like the car. I'd like to make videos of my car driving in the hills around my home town, but that'll come much later. And I've seen some people do some crazy stuff to their 'S'. For me I think someday I might put lowering springs on it, and maybe the OEM front lip and trunk spoiler. We'd also like to get the OEM hard top. And I'd like to put some five or six spoke white wheels on it. But all of that will have to wait until we pay off the loan (:

So far this weekend's forecast is more rain, but the next couple days are supposed to be sunny so I might take pictures on my lunch break.

Pictures! I ran over to a city / state park on the river during lunch so these are pretty crappy. But you're a bunch of impatient sonsabitches so I thought I'd give you something to look at (:

Oh, I still haven't gotten my Arkansas plates, so I haven't gone to the trouble of removing the Texas plates. Note sure of the legal situation there but I figure I'm in the wrong ;)

I have however removed the GSX-R logos the previous owner had on the back windows, and the dealer's badge from the trunk. All came off without difficulty, so I was pleased.

Ooh, she’s a beaut. :) In Arkansas, are you allowed to take off the front plate?

McLaren: I'm originally from Houston, TX, if that's of any value to you (:

Sage: We don't have front plates at all in Arkansas.

Nice getting this. I vaguely remember some rants on it from way back when. Congrats, and its helping me stick to my goal of an MR2 Spyder with TRD kitting and a 2ZZ :p Though thats a few years away still. I gots to finish my Mk1 first.

And yes, S2000's look insanely sexy in blue Vonie, I agree.

That's a good looking MR2 man. I always liked the Mk2s quite a lot. The MR2 Spyder looks a little goofy to me, though.

You won't have such an easy time removing the Texas windshield validation sticker, which is notoriously impossible to take off.

I'm not as fond of the Mk2 as I am of the Mk1 or Mk3. Though I still think its good looking, just a bit heavier than I would like in a car at about 2700 lbs. My MR2 is at about 2250 or so, and the Spyder sits under 2200 lbs.

That, and I think this looks quite nice...

Oh, and I found these in my photobucket. An S2000 that a guy was running at the tracks around here and I think he was planning on trying for the Sport Compact Car Challange. Said something about 400 or more horses...

Can't be too many modded S2000s in Idaho!

Sweeeet!!!

One of the best looking MR2's I've seen in a while.

I take it the roof is removeable?

Its the hard top that I believe TRD was selling at one point, but yes, it should be removable. The car simply looks awesome with the hardtop I think.

Nice car, LM! Cheers  !

Gracias (:

Yeah that MR2 Spyder isn't doing it for me. Though I had no idea they were so light. And that S2000 has a quite an engine bay going on. I'm with M5Power - can't be many modded Ss in Idaho - I doubt there are many at all. Kind of like Arkansas but perhaps even fewer. These two places don't really have ideal convertible climates.

Lookin' good there LoudMusic!!! Many congrats again! So where's the engine shots? Detailed interior shots?

Slacker!
