Well, today was my last day of highschool! It's been 12 years in the making and it's about time it's over. It's kinda sad to say that I only truly enjoyed school my senior year and the last part of my junior year. I changed schools at the end of my junior year, and boy was it for the best. At my new school I could actually be myself instead of having to conform to their standard. I've experienced things in my senior year that I've never experienced before. I had (good) female friends, had my first girlfriend, actually was permitted to go and hang out with friends wherever we wanted (which was not allowed at the other school), and I think I've been forced to kinda grow up a little faster since my father passed last year. All in all, I'm glad it's over, I'm looking forward to going to college, getting my first job, first car, growing up, and getting on with life. If all goes as planned, I will be attending a local community college this fall. As of right now, what I want to do is up in the air. For the longest time I wanted to be a network/systems administrator and then the other day, my mom suggested to me that I should be an architect. For some reason, this has really stuck with me. I know there's a few of you (architects) out there in GTP Land, so I'd appreciate it if you guys could maybe give me some advice/what I'm getting myself into/recomendations of schools etc...

Here's to a new chapter in my life...
:)

Congrats

1 month and 10 days till my exams are finished and I'm FREEEE! Well, untill college in September that is.

Get ready for bills, bills, bills and bills .

Congratulations, but the best bit of advice I can give based on what you've just said is work out what you want to do sooner rather than later. Then again the ages of school leavers and apprenticehips etc will be different in the US to the UK, I was 15 when I left high school, then went to college for 3 years and then I was almost too old for an appreniceship, I got lucky in ending up being good at what I randomly went into after college though.

Thanks. :)

 I can see my mailbox filling up now. :scared:

I'd really like to make a decision on what I want to do by sometime this summer, so hopefully I'll be able to make my mind up.

Congrats man!
My only advice is to not wait at looking for colleges like I did.

I can't really believe it's been almost a year too.

You survived! Well done... great to hear you have some good ideas/options for what you want to do next.

I'm not an architect myself, but I know a few. I wish I had done architecture sometimes, although it looks like hard work. My first girlfriend was studying architecture at the Glasgow School of Art (in the famous building designed by Charles Rennie Macintosh), but she dropped out! Struck me as being highly creative and the 'crits' (public criticism) of your work by your tutors and fellow students were quite savage, but it's all part of the learning process I guess... :nervous: ;) Some other friends of mine in Dublin now work as architects, and they are all fairly creative/arty type people. I always liked the idea of building those models of your drawings, but alas if my attempt at building a train set were anything to go by, I don't that I'm any great loss to the world of architecture... Good luck with your future, and enjoy your freedom while it lasts :p

I did construction design in college, the creative side is great but there's soo much more to it than that.

Well said, cheers to that:cheers:

Cool! Architecture sounds cool but hard... Hoping for the best! And I still got 5 years of school left...

Well, I have 10 days of 8th grade left including the class trip to Great America Six Flags.

Which reminds me, I have like 9 days to come up with money for food and stuff. Damnit. Good thing I have a fixed mower.

*Ahem*, congrats to you my mate 👍 and the way you explain your thoughts on your upcoming "chapter" of your life, reflects what was going through my mind at that time; now, Me, being an Civil Engineer Science/Technology student at NCC in NY, and soon transfering to NYIT to complete my bachelor's on Architecture, can give you some tips on how to choose your next school.

1st, If your ARE actually going for an architecture major, I would recommend you to sit down and think what kind of architect do you want to be. It may sound strange, but just so you know, architecture is a carrer that allows you to look at many fields of construction and designing thorughout the years. Did you know that 57% of architecture/engineer students, prior finishing their 2nd year in college, quit architecture and go for another related type carrer such as "general contractor" "surveyors" "Civil Engineers" etc ect etc...?
You have to know if architecture is really for you, there's going to be a s**t load of math, physics, chemistry and tons of other subjects related with numbers :nervous: .

2nd, Do attend a community college for 2 years first, since some of the courses/credits that you take there, can be transfered to many other schools, but many schools are very picky and rough on transfer students. So pay a visit to any of your choice colleges and ask them if you can get transfered, and with WHAT credits. ;) u understand?

3rd, and most important, DO NOT GIVE-UP, if this is what you want, stick with it, because you'll se that the road will transform from a smooth street type as the "test course", to a "grand canyon" type, and sometimes you'll feel that you're gonna crumble and throw the towel...sometimes you'll ask yourself "why did I ever chose to study this???" but it's ok, just keep pushing and pushing..it pays off at the end, trust me ;).

I don't have time for more since i gotta finish some stupid project that my auto-cad teacher left us, but i'l write you more for more tips..ok? if you have anyother question PM me...i'll gladly help you out...

Ciao...

Looks like there's a few of us graduating this year. My last day of school is on Wednesday, the 17th, and the ceremony is on the 25th. In the meantime I still have to be at school for graduation rehearsal and stuff (we're having the ceremony at a fancy auditorium downtown that frowns on screw-ups). After that I have my party (I could really care less) and them I'm done with highschool and busy with a new job until September, when I'm off to college.

Congratulations and good luck, Integra.

Congrats!

No matter what you think of it now, later on you'll remember it as some of the best years of your life. 👍
