Have you ever heard any Finnish bands (e.g Hanoi Rocks, Nightwish, The Rasmus, Bomfunk mc's, HIM, Children of Bodom or Beats'n'styles)? If you have have you liked it?

I'm interested what foreign people things about Finnish music, I like most of those bands...

I've heard some Nightwish, HIM, Children of Bodom, and The Rasmus. And didn't like any of them. 👎
Never heard any good Finnish music that i can think of, I can't even think of one good band from Scandinavia. So that makes me not a big fan (understatment) of Finnish music.

ABBA, Roxette, A-ha, The Hives, Royksopp, Björk, Cardigans, all scandinavian.

Finnish music has generally never appealed to me but I have heard one song from a finnish band I actually liked, Kemopetrol - Child Is My Name. :p
 
I've heard The Rasmus and Bomfunk mc's.'
I especially liked Bomfunk mc's back then :)
 
I've heard of H.I.M, The Rasmus, and Children Of Bodom. H.I.M is ****ing awesome, The Rasmus is pretty good and Children Of Bodom isint too bad. Just a little boring.
 
The rasmus is for little wannabe "goff" girls (usually 12 yo), but children of bodom are damn good.

Ok, maybe I was being a little bit to negative on Scandinavian music, but there isn't a band which I find to be really good.

For example the bands you named:
ABBA: Just a very popular pop-group with maybe one or two good songs.
Roxette: Never liked them and in my opinion nothing special.
A-ha: To much 80's
The Hives: I have one cd of them but the problem is it all sounds the same.
Royksopp: From what i've heard from the album it sounds ok, but they're real bad live (I have seen them as supporting act at a Moby concert).
Bjork: Her voice is just too weird.
Cardigans: "My Favourite Game" is a very good song, but the rest is not.

I can understand that you feel different about this because you're Scandinavian but this is just my opinion of the music. I just hope that you don't feel offended by this.
 
We have many good bands in Finland but most of them doesn't want to try to sell music to the outside of the land... :indiff:

If you have played Max Payne 2, (I haven't but I have heard) the ending song is by Finnish band too.

Nightwish has done music since 1997 but it gone to Germany and US last year and it has sell a lot. (In Finland best records sell usually only 100 000... So e.g 500 000 sold record is really big thing to Finnish band.) :D

I don't think you were too negative, it's your opinion and I wanted to make sure you knew some of the most famous groups/artists from this region.

Yes, of course I feel different about it, it's no big deal and I wasn't offended at all. :)

I have it and it's ****ing good! It's a bit different style than "in stereo" or "burnin' sneakers" but good. Very happy record :)
 
I'm a big fan of Stratovarius... I haven't heard too much other finnish stuff though.
 
Stratovarius are Finnish? They absolutely own, I didn't know that. 👍

I've heard of Bomfunk MC, but none of the others mentioned.
 
well, i'm pretty sure that Stratovarius are finnish :p. I thought In Flames were Finnish as well, but it turns out that they're Swedish

Oh, I knew Flames were Swedish, along with Soilwork who are also Swedish.

For Swedes they have good english, don't they?

I bought Stratovarius - Elements, Pt 2 and it had this booklet inside and they had these names that were Swedish or Finnish or something. I get it now. :dopey:

They are FINNISH. Only rumpalist (the guy who plays rums, I don't know if this is right word) is called Jörg Michael which is Swedish name, maybe he is Swedish. Singer is Timo Kotipelto (=Home Field by the way :) ) guitarist Timo Tolkki and someone with finnish name. But the band is FINNISH and they have got Jörg Michael maybe from Sweden... 💡

I don't know do they play any more, they had problems, Tolkki gone crazy or something and they broke up. :grumpy: Kotipelto and Michael left the band but last thing I have hear is that they probably are still together. However, Timo Kotipelto has made a solo album some time ago.

Are songs "Eagleheart" and "Stratofortness" in that CD? they are my favourites from stratovarius...

One also maybe known band is Apocalyptica which contains three man who play sello. Do you know it?

Also DJ called Darude was popular in Finland couple of years ago, do you know it?

If you like to know is some band Finnish, I can confirm it.

Think in the vein of Rammstein, with more electronicness. And less happy. No happy at all, really. Good music to blow off some steam to. Great for playing Halo 2. 👍

Sounded quite good, they sing Finnish.

HIM is just funny. Love Metal has to be the funniest concept in metal to-date. Children of Bodom are alright, but I've never really gotten into them. I don't go much on the rest of them.

I've listened to some Children Of Bodom, but that's pretty much it.
 
Speaking of COB, I've got a little request.

Anyone know the name of the CoB song that has some of the lyrics to Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five's song The Message? I think the lyrics they used were "rats in the front room, roaches in the back. Junkies in the alley with a baseball bat."

Any help appreciated. :)
 
Are you sure that its COB? I did a bunch of searches on Google and lyrics places but I didnt find anything remotely connected.

Wow, I guess I do like Finnish music. I didn't even know. Stratovarius, HIM, In Flames, Apocalyptica, all good. I have Darude's 'that one album that had that really popular song on it', but I find it pretty generic.

(I thought I might be listing to something Finnish right now, but Tad Morose are from Sweden.)

Mushroomhead - Born of Desire. Off the album M3. You won't find it on lyrics pages, because they didn't write those lyrics down, but they still have it in the song.

Is that what you were talking about?
 
Was the band 'Focus' Scandanavian?

'Hocus Pocus' by 'Focus' is such a great song
