RRoDzaaah!
Anyone updated their PSPs with the Japanese 2.0 firmware? It updates a bunch of things, but here's the good stuff:

  • .AAC Playback
  • H.264 Playback
  • Custom Wallpaper and custom theme
  • Web Browser
IGN has the firmware file on their site and it's set to English, so you don't have to mess with the Japanese menu trying to find the English setting. All you have to do is transfer it to the drive:\PSP\Game\Update directory and run it.

Yeah I installed it yesterday. Pretty cool! I don't have WIFI yet so I went out and scanned the city and found some one that uses a not protected WIFI so I browsed it there...

Background is also good option..

But why didn't Sony put bluetooth in it, I think that was a better option..

A web browser? Finally!!! This seems very cool and I wish they would've had it sooner. I suppose they were trying to fix some bugs and just wanted to wait to release it. Also the aac playback is nice. I've had problems encoding things to mp3 and aac has been my back-up file type--very convenient now. :D

Sony just got two more points on the cool scale. ;)

Thanks for the info! Will update tonight.

[edit]

From the JP Update Site:

CAUTION: This update is only for customers who obtained PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) for Japan which model number is PSP-1000 or PSP-1000 K. Upon completion of preparing, we will announce update information for the other countries/areas customers via SCE Group Web Site or other channels . For theses customers who obtained PSP® in the other countries/areas, please DO NOT update PSP® through this web site.

Just wanted to point this out...... :)

why is it that it HAS to connect to access poinst/routers soo irritating.

Because, the PSP doesn't have an Ethernet port on it. All wireless devices have to connect to an access point, that is how things work.

The browser speed is as good as your connection, but it takes a while to render pages, especially if there are many pictures.

Kiss the DS good-bye!

Oh man....if i had wireless I would download this,

I'll just wait til it comes out in the NA site sincei m not too hyped up about it.If i had WIFI i'd be all over it though.

You don't need wireless to download... 💡

Go to this link:
http://www.playstation.jp/psp/update/ud_03.html#cbl

Now DON'T scroll! On the top you see USB and some crazy words  On the middle of the screen there is a button with download on it, click on that and save it some where. Now, when it's downloaded connect your PSP with the usb cable to your pc, go into PSP>GAME and make the folder UPDATE. Put the downloaded file in the map UPDATE. Now disconnect your PSP and go to Memory Stick and now you see Update Firmware 2.000 or something like that. Run that, before installing connect your PSP to the adapter becaus it uses alot of battery power.. If the PSP goes out while installing your PSP could be history.. So be carefull!!

I hope this helps you 👍

You could also click this link:

It's the direct link to the download that is standing on the link above..

why can't it connect directly to computers(P2P) with internet access.i dont have a router but use a old computer into a router with lots of network adapters.

Just buy a wireless router.. Cost alot here but it's worth it. WIFI suck though, I prefer bluetooth..

IDIOCY!

I do not have WiFi,therefore why in the hell woudl i download some japanese browser?Let me put it better for slow people like you..

See,if I had a wireless connection,I would definetly want this so i could surf the net with it,but I don't,so Im really not worried about it until it is released for NA PSPs.And no,I don't have a Japanese PSP (DUH!).Did you not read where I said i'll wait for it to come out in NA?

:dunce:

Eh.. sorry?

I just tried to help you, you don't have to react like I'm retarded.. And if you had a Japanese, not only the browser was an update..

Sorry for the misunderstanding >_>

MachOne you really have no right to say such things about others. Just relax before you scream "idiocy" next time. There are other people on the forum who may have found that link useful. I, in fact, have and am one of those people.

I don't have WiFi in my house either, but the city nearby has tons of WiFi spots that they JUST put in and I will go there for my WiFi needs. Or I can literally walk the streets here in the housing complex and get stray signals from other people's routers. Now whether or not their firewalls will allow me to connect is my problem and a pretty big one at that. :dunce: Most have password protection anyway, but there are some that don't. Not that I'm condoning this behavior.... lol

Ooo that's pretty neat but what's the point if you already have a computer for the web browser? I rarely find open access points outside of our house and ours is encrypted. (although I know the key)

True, but it's the little things that count. You can't always take your heavy laptop round the house with you all the time. It would get tiresome.

Here in The Netherlands, on train stations we have WIFI spots. And soon in the train itselve also! So that's pretty 1337 :D

And good that it was helpfull RedWolfRacer! Thnx ;)

Yeah, there are TONS of WiFi spots around here if one goes outside to walk. lol Many of them are from the city, others are from the local Air Force Base...heavily encrypted those ones and definitely not safe! :scared: But a browser that I can take on the go would be freakin' sweet!

I wonder if they NA 2.0 update will have anything different from the JP one? I guess that'd make it a 2.1 if it did. lol

I have WIFI now, and it rules. Posted a message on my clan forum. But it's not that fast. The WIFI thing is not mine so, I need a real quick one :)

discopotato
i'm not going to 2.0. i love my homebrew too much.

I'll give up homebrew when they offer downloadable games for 2.xx.

But I do see the point of having a wifi brower away from home. I dont have a cell phone(overreted) to access internet. I remember years ago i was away from home and was dieing to find out what E3 1999 had to show for GT2. Gawd im getting old.
