Ok, it wasn't much, just moving a van from one side of a parking lot to another. I got in the driver's side, started the engine, put my foot on the brake, shifted into reverse, and stepped on the gas. Apparently either my pressure appliance was off or the engine over-reacted, but I went halfway up the hill behind us (my mom and I) before I could hit the brake. My mom told me to shift into drive, just letting off the brake and not touching the gas. I managed to move the van right next to my dad's brand-new altima without hitting it (thanks to gran turismo's wheel, my steering was great). I parked it, and went inside. I'm still a little shaky from the experience of the car jolting unexpectedly backwards .

Hah, amatuer. :)

I drove my brother's SportTrac all around my block once. Easy car to drive, too.

Wait your first drive you went up a hill?

I don't feel so bad...my first drive I went in a parking lot, took a turn at like 25, and locked up the wheels into a spot. After that, I actually was able to park perfectly in a parking spot. I went from dangerous to good driver in 3 mins.

Tonight, my dad was working on an older(not old, it's a '90) Camry(My Car Camry!) V6...my dad wanted me to drive it around the block several times, which I thought he was going with me, but nope. I was in a costomer's(well, my dad knows them well, he's one of the last cars my dad still works on at home, becides us and our families)car out for a drive in the dark. I did well. Even floored it. Didn't go much over 30 though. The steering is like a lot better than the 3, the wheel is so easy to turn. Then I parked it on my driveway, put it in park, and reached around for the parking brake, but I failed to find it(Doh!), but it didn't go anywhere.

And my dad trusts me in our most expensive car, the MPV. I moved it 2 times today, I've driven it around the block several times, and it's easy to drive(kinda worry when pulling it on our driveway with 3 cars on my left and 1 on the right, and one on the street.

A while back, after my first drive, my dad took me up to Fusz for something, and he wanted me to drive around the lot, by myself, while he was in the shop. The lot had(and has more now I'm sure) about 60 new Mazdas and Subarus waiting for a certain 3 to hit them. Didn't happen though. After 2 passes(behind the building it goes down and turns...I would go down the last row, though I went down all 3 to check out the wrecks and new cars), I got cocky and floored it down the back stretch, going about 40(in a parking lot with new cars mind you), and I barely missed a dumpster. Scared the crap out of me. Ohh well.

I actually drive better with no one in the car...I can relax more I think.

Cool.

I semi-learned to drive a manual over the summer. Well, for like 30 minutes. I only stalled it a couple times going around corners. Meh.

No one I know owns a manual though, so I have nothing to practice. Friggin' automatic tossers.

Well, the only 2 cars I have driven that are ours(and the 3 or so other cars I've driven), are the only 2 cars we own that are autos. The rest are my dad's and my bro's, and hell if they will ever let me drive them.

My first car to drive was a '93 Dodge Caravan. We call it the Vanimal. It is not the most responsive and I find hard to get at a specific speed. The turning isn't that great in it either.... I like my mom's '99 Town & Country LXI much more, but I also like my dad's '93 Dodge Intrepid....

My mums car was getting a WOF so she got a curtesy (sp?) car which was a manual. Since all 3 of the cars I drive are auto, it was my first time of driving a manual in 2 years. More importantly in the city.
2 **** up incidents
One was when I was at a set of lights on a up-hill. I didnt use the handbrake and tried taking off without it. With inexperience it resulted in a big wheels spin
And I was driving up this hill in my suburb, flooring it in second. Went to shift into third using double clutch technique. Well, I didnt put it in 3rd and left it in neutral and I was revving the **** out of it a couple of times. Luckily it was a night time

I agree, them damn 323s are pretty hard to turn (well, not hard, but they have to be turned alot.. ?). I drive one all the time when i go to my friends house. He lives in a trailer park and whenever we go to leave or come back in, i get to drive around.

A while ago i was able to drive my moms 98 eclipse, and came about 1 inch from losing the passenger side mirror on this truck. I wasnt scared, though.

Just seeing how hard the 323 was to steer, i wonder how much trouble im going to have with the 85 camaro in the garage after i get it running...

...What year was the 323 built, anyway, Maz?

My first lesson was in a geo tracker, on the curvy mountian roads of West Virginia. Took one of those aforementioned curves at about 40 (meant for about 15). scared the piss outta my dad.

Once had a Renault on a small hill, and could not get it going, stalled it maybe 40 or so times.

Right now I drive a '92 s-10 (manual). peppy as hell for a truck.

My driving experience
- 1980 Toyota Corona (96hp, FR, Manual) >> Mum's car and the one i have driven the most. It turns real good (despite having no power steering) and doesn't understeer or oversteer while cornering fast. (um... er... not that i would know... of course...) I've taken off a few times and seen as i like doing fast takeoffs, even with Mum in the car, the wheels sometimes lose traction on the white lines. Apart from that its a good car. :)

- Hyundai somethingorrather (??hp, FR?, Manual) >> I only drove this car twice (driving tests) and it wasn't too bad.

- Toyota Hiace? (van) (??hp, FR, Manual) >> This was a rental van we used while i was doing a course two years ago and i took it down to the shop for something. I came back a different way and there was a very sharp left hairpin which went up a steep hill (and i mean sharp) i didn't take it very wide while turning onto the road and the rear wheels lost traction in the gravel. The wheels were spinning for about three seconds when i gave up, reversed and went up the road a bit to turn around.

- Toyota Cressida 2.8 (??hp, FR, Auto) >> Driven it twice so-far and it seems to have quite a bit of power. (compared to Mum's car anyway). It belongs to the guy i work for. Has a nice sound too. (almost like a Skyline)

- 1995 Ford Telstar (??hp, FR, Auto) >> Belonged to one of Dad's old girlfriends. Can't remember too much about it so... let's leave it at that.

- 1991 Nissan Skyline GTS-4 (250hp, 4WD, Auto) >> The fastest, best handling, best sounding, most comfortable car i have ever driven. And if Dad hadn't listened to all my bragging on at him to buy a Skyline then i may have never even driven this car. He actually admitted that it's the best car he's ever had too. :) (and he's had PLENTY of cars, from Ford Falcons to Honda Preludes.) It was this car that i reached my highest ever speed. (while driving: 140km/h +, and while a passenger and Dad driving: 160km/h +) He's only ever got it to 180km/h because he always runs out of road. At Christmas when he was down, it got up to 160km/h really, really quickly. It's a real awesome car. :)

Yes, i am bored. ;)

The first car I drove was an auto Holden Calais (in my avatar)
First manual I drove was a 1928 Ford Model A pick up (on the same day, around 4-5 years ago) :D

Well my first time was when I was thirteen, my uncle took me out to some dirt tracks and quarrys near his house, A 1965 Valiant 3 speed was the car I drove.

He got out and I slid across the bench into the drivers seat. He told me what to do, I depressed the clutch, shifted into first (column shift) applied pressure to the accelerator, withdrew my food from the clutch and...stalled it.

Two more tries and I took of, driving down the track at 25 mph was pretty cool, Idid some figure eights in a quarry, I wasn't too bad. last year I did reversing, drove on a road with other traffic (does one car on a dirt road count as other traffic) parking, burnouts in the dirt (well a bit of wheelspin a clutch dumping). I can now do about 40mph down a dirt road with confidence.

X, mine is an '88...the 323 was in the US starting in '85(if I remember this early in the morning), and ran till '89, then a new body style from late '89 till '92. In Japan, the Familia(323) dates back to '64 or around there, and they still have the Familia(our Protege and Protege 5) today. The US GLC(Great Little Car, wasn't so great, RWD 323 basically) ran from like '76 till '84, and I have only seen like 2 on the road. I've seen a ton in junkyards though...the cars rusted out.

It's not so much that the 3 is had to steer...they just made the steering ratio so that to turn down a street you turn the wheel nearly 120 degrees. With the Camry, I was turning less than 90. The 323 handles well though(mine does atleast).

I got my first drive when I was 13 in my father's Corolla.
Overestimated the gas and nearly hit a wall. Drove around the block and there goes my first drive.

Then at 16(I will only get my license when I'm 17) , last year, I really got to drive my dad's car. I drove my mom to the market(just a short drive) and also drove it to wash it. Sometimes I just sneak it out to drive in my neigbourhood and reaching speeds of 80kph. It's auto so no big deal.

Then came my manual experience. I drove my friend's Ford Ranger(not the American version) around the block learninig to shift. Suprisingly, I only stalled once, when in 4WD mode cause I applied too little throttle.

Overall, its not bad for someone who learned driving by looking(at my father).

Wow, I remember those days... 22 years and 200,000 miles ago!
;)
Good luck getting your licenses everybody, and practice well!

Man, now after reading this thread, I am starting to remember all of the cars I have driven.
1st - 1983 Cadillac El Dorado - What a boat - interesting history - Scared the living crap out of my best friend taking a left hand turn in it.
2nd - 1985 Chevy Blazer - Blew two pistons through the hood into the back seat destroying a few grand of electronics.
3rd - Nissan 300zx TT - first manual car driven. Not a good choice to drive for the first time with a manual transmission. But the car was so much fun. Would love to purchase another one.
4th - Lexus SC300 - step mom's car - tore the thing to hell and back. did you know that you can make those cars drive on two wheels?
5th - 6th gen four door Civic - BLAH - that is what I have to say about that car.
6th - My beloved Miata. No car is ever gonna match up to this one. The fact that I could have put a bumper sticker on the car that said, "You just got whooped by a sissy car!" made everything worth it. Especially after pulling away from some Corvettes.
7th - 1980 Camaro Z28. My first expereince with american muscle. Changed my attitude on them altogether.
8th - 1999 Honda Accord V6 - My real momz car. Everytime I go to Connecticut to visit her I take it out on the back roads.
9th - Ferrari 575M - My buddy works at the Ferrari Dealership in Orlando and let me take thius car out on a run a few days before the Lemans in Sebring. HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!!! that is all I can say. speechless. Like SCC said, farting in a Ferrari does not give you that full feeling of satisfaction you would think.
10th - 1996 mustang V6 - It's a Ford - It's my Girlfriend's. It's a ford. what else should I say about it?
11th - 1969 Chevelle SS - Built for the drag strip. built to tear your eyelids off your face. the car ran high 9 second, low 10 second 1/4 mile runs. And that was with another 700 to 1000 RPMs to go. :)
12th - Unibody '68 Camaro - Dyno with over 700 hp. Never got to run it through a trap, but it put my stomach on the outside of my body.

These are all the cars that are worth mentioning I guess, Whether I was driving then long term, or had an experience that was truly sweet.
