First Gran Turismo®5 test-drives featuring the new SLS AMG to take place across dealership network

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) and Mercedes-Benz are offering consumers the chance to test-drive the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG – virtually – via Gran Turismo®5 for PlayStation®3 (PS3™). Gran Turismo® is the world’s best selling driving simulation game, acclaimed by motoring aficionados for its ability to give a taste of the real thing, driving the finest cars in the world on some of the world’s most challenging tracks. Starting in May 2010 customers can visit their local Mercedes-Benz dealership for an exclusive taster of the forthcoming title – a one-track demo featuring the new model at a specially-installed PS3 unit. The sampling activity marks a new stage in the partnership between developers Polyphony Digital and Mercedes-Benz that has already seen the SLS AMG picked to star on the game’s cover when the title arrives in stores this year.

“This activity with Mercedes is one element of the close partnership we’ve forged with them while developing Gran Turismo 5,” says Kazunori Yamauchi, President at Polyphony Digital. “The Gran Turismo franchise has always been about working hand-in-hand with the biggest and best marques in the motoring industry to create an unparalleled level of realism and the digital drive of a lifetime. Taking GT5 into dealerships is the next step in the marriage of virtual experience and real driving.”

“We’ve worked very closely with PlayStation and Polyphony Digital to recreate the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG in Gran Turismo 5 – and we’re thrilled by the result,” says Anders Sundt Jensen, Vice President Brand Communications Mercedes-Benz Cars. “From the gullwing doors to the sporty, cockpit-like interior with its performance steering wheel – the car could barely look and feel more realistic. We’re delighted to have this digital version of the SLS AMG next to its real-life counterpart in our dealerships – it will give many thousands of people the chance to have the drive of a lifetime.”

Consumers who head for their local dealerships will get to play a special, one-track demo, featuring the SLS AMG on the iconic Nürburgring, with both car and track recreated from real-life, down to the finest detail, with state-of-the-art mapping and image capture techniques. And, while they’re there, they’ll get to check out the real-life SLS AMG in all its glory.

Five-time DTM Champion Bernd Schneider also has driven the SLS AMG in Gran Turismo 5 and tested the performance and reality of the simulation.
It was he who accompanied the Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi during thorough tests on the Nürburgring Nordschleife."

The culmination of ten years of developing ultra-realistic driving experiences, hand-in-hand with the motor racing industry, Gran Turismo 5 will let gamers prove themselves on the world’s most famous racetracks, behind the wheels of more than 950 cars. Arriving later this year, it’s set to be the drive of a lifetime.

At first i thought this is old but then:

I sill don´t see how every Mercedes dealership in Czech Rep. has this. But maybe you UK, and so on guys are lucky.

Seen so much on SLS demos it almost feels like I have played it.

The new video is in the link too, it's dated 30th April! God knows how come it took 5 days for anyone to spot it!!!!

Good partnership with Mercedes then. Would the F1 car be a complete impossibility?

Is this Europe only, or can I have to travel to Vancouver and find a Mercedes dealership to give it a go?

No, I'll have to lie and say I have $ for a new Mercedes :lol:

The video was recorded in february, I think. I guess they finally finished the editing and released it.

What I liked about the video is that Bern (an actual race driver) was really enjoying the GT5 experience :)

OMG! I need to find my closest dealer soon!!!!! Where is one in North London?

It's still new to most of us though.

Cool, we have a Merc dealership close to us, and my uncle has an old Merc anyway that he regularly takes for checks and servicing. I may just have to go along and see what all the fuss is about ;)

I bet a lot of Merc dealers will be a bit overwhelmed and baffled by tons of 12-year olds requesting a test drive in the new SLS.:)

Thought the same.
I hope they will have a different demo at Le Mans.

Can someone please take one for the team and try crashing the SLS up a bit?

The neogaf user who had an SLS-on-Nurb demo showed some bumper/hood panel "movement", followed by a high-speed wheelie quirk. Just curious if MB would allow that kind of demo in their showrooms.

That's not only the same demo, it was already playable in German dealers.

Really? I don't recall hearing of that before.

i was nice to see an actual driver enjoying GT5 as much as i hopefully will one day, had a look at some overtrailers on the web site especially GTPSP and the cars in the trailers for GTPSP are clearly just GT5 renders apart from a few snow and rally and lamborghini as the over renders have shadows and reflections way above a PSP capabilitys and maybe way above that of a PS3

It is possible, but Vodafone & McLaren would have to be on board.

If I not mistaken the demo was previously available only in Mercedez-Benz Museum in Stuttgart.

Ops, someone was faster....

Not when you are talking about the Mercedes GP car.

EDIT: @Ramosis, believe me, I "know" someone who works in a Mercedes dealer.
Mercedes Munich also had the demo.

I believe you, I just didn't know about a demo in dealers...

Then, yes, there is a chance. I haven't kept up with F1 in years, so I didn't know Mercedes GP were still going strong. :guilty:

It could be possible to have more "old" F1 cars like the F2007, if Mercedes, McLaren and PD would like them to be included/modelled.
In this case it would have to be a McLaren-Mercedes because the current Mercedes F1 car ( not the current McLaren-Mercedes one ) is only been introduced this year so licensing it will be impossible.:)

Why? Codemasters will put it in F1 2010.
