ive been fishing a couple of imes, whenever i go to australia, i go down to the jetti, down at the salt water burrill lakes, sit back and relax, and once, tmy rod suddenly jerked (nah, no way!)i thought, this has gotta be a big one, when i relled in, IT WAS A SQUID! i couldnt beleive it! it was shooting water at us and was not hooked, but was sucking on the prawn bate! that was in 2001, in 2003, same but an eel this time! obviously ive caught loads of leatherjackets n stuff aswell!

I live next door to a little old lady who has a fully stocked lake and she encourages people from the neighborhood to fish in it. So in the spring and summer when I'm not overloaded with having to work I go over and catch the trophy-weight Bluegill that call that infest that lake.

In fact I may go fish today if it gets warmer out than it has been...

First decent catch of the season.

I absolutely love fishing, heck I've been doing it for 18 years. :dopey:
I fish for any freshwater fish.

Fish I've Caught:

Salmon - Chinook(king) and Coho
Trout - Rainbow, Brown and Steelhead (Great Lake Rainbow)
Bass - Largemouth, Smallmouth and Rock Bass
Panfish - Black and White Crappie, Sunfish and Bluegill and Yellow Perch
Walleye
Muskie
Northern Pike
Carp

I live really close to Lake Ontario so the Salmon runs are always fun. My brother, my father and I own a 2003 17 foot Lund Pro Sport 1700 with an 80hp Yamaha outboard. We usually flat-line troll for Salmon and Trout in Georgian bay and will purchase a pair of downriggers to go deep. My biggest 3 fish to date is a - 45inch 33lb Musky (fattie) and a 30lb Chinook (King) Salmon and a 28lb Chinook Salmon. We go for everything depending on time of year. Spring we go for Walleye, Bass, Pike and Steelhead. Summer is Muskie and Walleye and late Summer and Fall we go for the Salmon in the lake and in the river. If my scanner was working I would scan the pics. I will try and get a scanner soon as possible.

I like to fish, but only for fun. I don't try for any trophy fish or anything like that. If I catch something good to eat I might keep it but generally I just show up with a rod and reel and the full intention of releasing.

I could care less if I catch a bluegill or a bass. I just enjoy the relaxation of the whole event. What other sport/hobby allows you to spend most of your time sitting on your butt twirling your finger?

I just went fishing about 2 weeks ago. First time I have went in about 2 years. We usually just fish for bass or perch. Nothing special. Biggest fish I ever caught was a Salmon out of Lake Michigan. It was 5lbs and around 27" long. Thats nothing compared to what most people catch. It was still the biggest fish I ever caught.
I dont like cleaning them so I always throw the fish back.

I do it more as a sport, mainly release but I will keep the odd fish. I never keep a trophy I always take a picture and then release it. The way we fish is like if you watch those tournament shows.

I had a bad start to this season. First fish this season was a 2 inch Yellow Perch that I snagged on the side as I was rip jigging for walleye. :dunce:

i mostly catch trout in rivers, and Whiting or flatties down in port phillip and western port bay. Australia has great fishing! especially up in queensland

I go carp fishing probably 2 weekends out of each month. Go to the lakes on friday evening and come back on the sunday afternoon. I joined up to Linton Angling Society recently as the cost of buying day tickets was getting a little silly. The average cost of a days fishing is anywhere between £10 and £25 dependant on the lack and the cost of a whole weekend and be up to £60. Forking out £80 for a year of unlimited fishing at 5 still waters and 10 stretches of river (all pretty local too) seemed like a great bargin. The biggest fish i have caught so far is "only" 15.2lb but with a bit of luck that should increase by a large amount.

What fishing gear do you all use? I use Shimano Hyperloop 2.5tc carp rods with Wychwood Extremis Freespin 60 baitrunner reels.

Here is a pic of the 15.2lb common carp i caught.

Nice fish.

Um, since I am never trying to catch anything huge and just like the atmosphere I am just using whatever was on sale at Wal*Mart that day.

I think it says Shakespeare on the rod. :indiff:

I have 11 rods and reels all for different fish, for this time of season I use four, for the Salmon and Steelhead. on Friday night I got a 20LB Chinook (King) Salmon off of a river mouth on Lake Ontario, on my 9' Heavy action Diawa Heartland Salmon/Steelhead rod and an Abu Garcia Cardinal 504 Spinning reel spooled with 40lb Stren Super Braid thats as thin as 10lb monofilament. I use also a 8'6" Salmon/Steelhead rod by Shakespeare called Shakespeare Agility for the Salmon that have ran up the river for spawning with a 2500FB Shimano Sedona on 8lb Stren Megnathin Monofilament and I catch Salmon over 30lbs with it and walk up for kilometers on end in that day to search for them with waders. I have my 9'6" Rapala Tournament Series with a Quantum Kinetic PTi 30 with 8lb line for Steelhead and Salmon in the river and 30lb Spiderwire braid for trolling (flatline). Lastly my 10'6" Southbend Steelhead rod that I use to drift eggs in pools of a river its a very light action of 2-8lb line but I have caught a 15lb Coho Salmon with it 2 years ago on Thanksgiving day. I shall take pics of my gear and post it tommorow or when I have time.

By the way. Nice Carp, We have them here in Canada also in Lake Ontario and all the Great Lakes and the Kawartha Region and my brother has pulled out some Common and Mirror Carp over 35lbs.

Err and i thought i had alot of stuff. Well i just fish for carp really along with the odd "tiddler bashing" (catching little fish) session at some rivers. I went this weekend with a friend and i caught a nice Tench which was between 3-4 lb and a couple of Bream. I dont particularly like catching bream because they dont put up any sort of fight and they make your net smell and leave stinky slime everywhere :yuck:

Was a good weekend though apart from the absence of any carp at the lake we visited!

An update from me.

I went fishing on the 27th, 28th and 29th of December with one of my friends, There was meant to be three of us but one pulled out at the last minute. At around 6.30 am i found myself dragging along all my carp fishing gear in the freezing cold across to a muddy lake.

At around 11pm the first evening my friends bite alarm started beeping away and by the time i got out of my bivvy (posh name for a green tent) my friend was well into what seemed a nice fish. In the hurry to get the rod my friend also decided it would be a good idea to leave his shoes and head torch in his bivvy which i found rather amusing seeing as it was pitch black. I did the kind thing and grabbed his shoes and head torch for him and after a little struggle eventually netted the first carp of the session. Hopefully this was a sign of good things to come! With the fish safely on the unhooking mat we took a couple of pictures and proceeded to weigh and release him. The final weight was a satisfying 13lb. Not the biggest carp ever caught but it was still welcome nevertheless.

After a pretty lousy nights kip, i had a few bites but the fish never really took the bait, i set about getting ready for what i was hoping to be a furious day of constant catching. Unfortunately this was not to be the case :grumpy:

After quite a few beers me and my friend decided to call it a night at around midnight. I slowly dozed off into the land of nod and was rudely awoken at 4.30am! To say i was a little startled is quite the understatement, I was frantically trying to get out of my sleeping bag which even Houdini would find a troublesome task, find my head torch, get the mosquito net undone, find and put on my thermal boots, negotiate the inner and outer doors to the front of my bivvy and strike the rod and hopefully still have a fish on the end!

I struck the rod and was happy to find the fish still on the end although he was making a bit of a b-line for a group of lilies which would cause complications. I turned the fish thankfully on time and proceeded to wear the fish out. She didn't really put up much of a fight after the initial strike and my expectations of a monster carp sank pretty rapidly. We finally netted the carp and got it on the unhooking mat where we could remove the hook and weigh the beast.

The final weight of my first carp of the session was 16lb 13oz Common Carp. I was chuffed to bits and after releasing the carp i celebrated by drinking a cup of tea and going to sleep for a few hours.

After getting out of my sleeping bag at around 9.30 the next day i sat in my chair and my friend pointed out to me that i had forgotten to put my bait runner on on my reels(this lets the fish take line when you catch it). I walked over and turned it on and sat back down in my chair. For some unknown reason me and my fishing buddy were just staring at my rod and reels like we were expecting a fish to suddenly take my bait and the strangest thing happened. The bite alarm erupted into life and we both just looked at each other in disbelief at what happened. It then occurred to me that i should strike and hook the fish seeing as thats why i was there. This fish actually felt smaller than the fish i had earlier the same morning, it fought alot more near the surface and i had a bit of fun tiring it out. Finally i got the fish landed and i was convinced it was a smaller fish than the one before but the scales never lie and displayed 17lb 8oz. My new personal best!

Other than a bite or two the rest of the day was uneventfully and we finally decided that fishing any longer was futile. We packed up and went home after a pretty good fishing trip.

Good catch Spec. 👍

Keep us updated.

Wow, bite alarms, digital scales, unhooking mats. You go fully teched out when you fish. When I go fishing the most technology I take with me is an electric lantern for night fishing. Otherwise, it is just a rod and reel with various kinds of bait.

Good catch, though.
