In Nascar at Daytona and talladega with no restrictor plate they most definitely would come close to 240 by themselves, but they would also have to brake. One of the biggest reasons for the draft and lack of "aero push" that they talk about at other large tracks such as California, Michigan, Atlanta, etc. At tracks outside of those two its the opposite. The biggest problem they have been trying to overcome is not being able to close in on the car in front of you even if you are faster. But, at Daytona and Talladega its different because they never hit the brakes. They run qualifying at a little over 180 average speed. It doesn't go up or down much maybe a difference of 4 miles an hour from fastest to slowest during the lap. However, in race they can average as much as 195 average speed. The fastest part of a qualifying lap is max 183, the fastest part in race can be as much as 205. 205 is 22 mph faster then the average fastest part of the qualifying session so yes, 22 MPH with restrictor plates is realistic. But unless we use the power limiter to achieve something similar these do not have restrictor plates. I tend to believe that the draft is overdone, maybe not by as much as some claim, but the game does not at least with a nascar simulate the aero push that happens particularly in corners at Indy. They do not pick up 20 mph at indy, it just does not happen.
