Flames are only the concequence of such technical architecture.. they do not affect the way your engine goes... or at least in games..

I'm sure if PD put flames it will only be for graphical reasons and nothing related to turbo or whatever real technical reason...

Like I said, why not, but It is not something really important for GT...

Before flames, the first graphical improvement to add is at least a rear gear light. Really difficult to explain why GT still do not have this ! That's why I really doubt flames will be in GT4...

Whether that pic is truly from a GT version, i can't tell, but what i can tell is that the right exhaust flame looks suspiciously familiar to the combustion in the GT3 intro...

just a thought...

oh and i really agree with you P2C, PD should really throw in a reverse light... that's been buggin me for a while now.

its too bad, they should put the occaisional flame in, like txr3.

I bet PD is reading this thread and thinking, "Great! Now these bastards want flames shooting out the tailpipes! Ha! I'd like to flame their tailpipes! Greedy bastards!"

Remember how the sparks from the under the cars were a surprise in GT3? Well, as far as I can remember they were. Well, maybe PD wants to keep this as a surprise.

You never know, maybe a few cars in the game will have this feature. Like the only car with reflective racing decals was the RX-7 LM race car.

I thought they were glow i the dark decals on the RX7.

Nope, it just looks like there glowing in the dark.

Exhaust flames are standard in racing games these days. To think a "simulation" misses out such obvious features is sad imo. Fingers crossed they do the sensible thing and include exhaust flames, reverse lights (haha) and skid marks.

It's not sad to miss it out, it's not that important. It's just a nice detail thats all, it doesn't do anything else in a game.

Even Max Power racing on the PSX had exhaust pops along with the up and coming HL rally, yes thats right, a rally mod for Half-Life (fps).

No excuse not to have it in GT imo, after all many racing series have exhaust pops coming out the cars. Its not really a hard thing to implement either, it could just be a simple sprite or 2 put together in a cross to make it look passable created on a given vertex on the car model, or centered between several as part of a group whenever the car has a sudden drop of revs.

Of course if the PS2 was as powerful as a pc you could even do nice particle effects, but that isn't really neccesary (although would look very nice) :)

Doing it right is different. Most racing games that do have it just put it in as a random downshift occurance. But coding a little bit of cause would make a much better difference.

Having the big racing v8's pouring fire, the turbo's on boosted downshifts, and various other racing modified cars having random leaks would be nice.

BTW, turbo's use the "backfire" to burn the air away, causing the exhaust vacuum to stay strong, which keeps the turbo spinning.

Exhaust vacuum pressure is very crucial in any car, and is why putting an overly large exhaust on any car will see it lose power. I've seen far too many 4 pot N/A engines with 3"+ exhausts. Sad..

Yo, that would be crazy if it is in the game but I doubt it will be 'cuz it seems theres alot of details left out and this one would probably on the bottom of their list of extra things to include.:trouble:

Flames I don't know about to be honest. I would like some real exhaust fire like when I played "Sports Car GT" on my computer. Maybe if I had a Shelby GT350 tuned like crazy, I'd sure as hell... oops, don't want MORE flames added... uh, I'd sure as crap want flames.
