I must say I am pretty happy with the new update, if only for the smallest of reasons - no annoying braking indicator. For those that don't know (or don't understand what I'm getting at), the braking indicator is that red, flashing light on the HUD that tells you when to brake.

Now, I tried to ignore it, but even subconsciously when I see that red light come on, I brake, or at least start to brake.

Removing the HUD is a god send. My lap times have improved dramatically, and when I'm driving on edge, it's actually scary. Took a lap round the 'Ring and I must say, the difference is night and day - I'm picking up on braking markers, not braking where in the past I would of (there are times when that light flashes and I have no idea why).

The only possible thing I could ask for is a Tacho etc, minus the red light, would be mint.

I always ignored it as I thought it truly was more of a shift indicator. So me driving manual/clutch made it useless. But now that you told me what it was, I'll subconsciously mess up. Thanks.

Can you see the tach in premium cars when you use the cockpit view?

Sorry mate, at least you can turn it off now.

Some cars, but I rarely use cockpit and if I do, it's on narrowest.

Honestly it was a great tool for learning how to use manual transmission. It flashes just a bit before the point where you need to start slowing down for a turn, and flashes the gear you should be in for the speed of that turn. This helps a newbie understand how manual transmission relates to your speed and when to slow down for turns, and you really memorize the tracks based on what gear you need for each turn.

But at a certain point you can do better by ignoring it.

And with that, my 1.05 update just finished downloading, time to try no hud!

The flashing red brake indicator (which matches the location of red zones on the racing line, I believe) has always been extremely early in all of the GT games, even for novice drivers. It's like they expect you to take a full second to notice and react to it.

Of course, there are random occasions where it's pretty much spot-on, too, which is a little frustrating. :odd: It seems to be more accurate in the rain as well.

That was kind of the problem, sometimes it was right, sometimes it was wrong. Being that I struggled to ignore it, it caused a lot of problems.

I wish they'd give this option The stupid red light is impossible to ignore and really spoils the game for me- instead of learning the braking points how you should its very difficult not to notice the light and start using it as a cue for braking- I've even considered taping over that part of the screen.

Same goes for the suggested gear number. It makes me lose a bit of concentration when it's wrong because I feel like I'm arguing with the car

Lol I've been playing for so long I never realized it was for braking, I thought it was trying to get my attention to change gears..

I never pay attention to the blinking light or the gear the car picks for me, I drive the way I want :sly:

Also thought it was for gear changes... are we talking about the one next to the gear number? Because I'm on automatic right now and it's flashing every time the needle hits the redline to go up a gear... on Indianapolis so I sure ain't supposed to be braking.

That is one of my biggest complains in the game. It's strange because in Tourism Trophy you could turn it off, just the red blinking light, not all the HUD.

It is for gear changes

agreed, it is suggesting what gear to change to- BUT it anticipates the corner and tells you when it thinks you should be braking and changing down- its very distracting and I really can't see the point- hardly simulation, is it?

It is for braking as well as gear changes. Sometimes the gear suggestions are off, so I don't rely on it, but as an indication of the braking zone, it is a very handy tool.

The blinking gear change is the last part of the sequence though. The first part of the sequence involves the suggested gear coming on in solid red. As you gt closer to the corner, then it changes to flashing red.

Did you know that it is dynamic too? It will suggest a gear according to your current driving conditions. So you could face the same corner, but the suggested gear could be different.

Yes, I find the fact you can't disable the braking indicator and shifting recommendation is stupid. I like you can now disable the HUD completely, but want the tach to stay.

Oh yeah, it's very cool actually. Some cars have small tachometers that can be a bit hard to see, but you adjust. Other cars, like the Ferrari California, have a nice big tach front-and-center, and a nice big gear indicator too. My Citreon race car has this awesome thing on the steering wheel, like airport runway lights. The lights get closer and closer together the higher your rpm, and then start flashing when it's time to shift. The Ferrari Enzo has five LED's across the top of the steering wheel - when the fifth one lights up, wait a second, then it's time to shift.

It adds a whole extra bit of fun to the game getting in a new car and using the unique dashboard displays.

I wish they would add a small, unobtrusive gear indicator down in the corner or something. Especially for the cars with 7 gears, it would be appreciated :) Still, I'm having such an awesome time now that it's just me, the cockpit, and the track. No more clutter - and no more blinky brake light!. 👍
