Okay, so my playstation turned off and the red light started blinking.

Here I am think, here goes my playstation.

Did the fan purge. Turned off at mains. Turned back on. Ran fine.

Now I've just had it turn off and start blinking again and I'm scared its going to YLOD

WHAT SHOULD I DO!!

Edit: and now when I turn it on it just turns back off and flashes

Sounds like could be overheating. The red lights are a warning that could mean a few things. Take it for a service to someone local, like I'm about to with mine only costs around £30-40

I've had the blinking red light once, too. I just left mine alone, after I turned it on, to check if it was okay, for the rest of the day. I haven't had any problems since.

- You should, though, get it to service (as said earlier, - not by me), if you've got the YLOD. They'll know how to fix it.

Alright too easy! Thanks guys. Really hope it fixes it! Had it since the day it came out and hasn't skipped a beat til tonight ):

Motherboard failed

$100 to get the data off and up for a new playstation, cost just as much for a new one these days as to fix an old one! Haha

Ive had the same issue since February , and it sucks because i really cant play anything but GT5 & now GT5 is starting to overheat it . Im out of ideas and dont wana send more money on extra cooling ,ive already cut the plastic away from above the power supply and have an exterior fan pulling air over the unit with the outer cover acting as a shrowed. but ill be getting a new unit soon so all is well.

Apparently what cures the overheating, is taking the front cover off ( that says Playstation 3 on it ).This slides out, but to do that you have to remove the warranty sticker and the screw under that.I still say the original is the best, although the slim is slightly quicker to load etc.

Nath.
