Ahh yes, the now familiar sound of Flavio Briatore whining without any tact has become synonymous with Renault (Pity) but here is a fairly amusing outburst from the Flav.
From news.bbc.co.uk
Renault boss Flavio Briatore reckons the ruling in favour of the 'diffuser three' has made a farce of this season's world championship. He reportedly told La Gazzetta dello Sport: "Our (McLaren, Ferrari and Renault) drivers are or have been world champions, and then you have a (Brawn) driver who was almost retired, and another who is a 'paracarro' (Italian for a roadside concrete post) fighting for the championship. I don't know how we can say we have credibility." Credibility: that's something QPR wouldn't mind getting back.
When will he learn....

Flav, do you know what a galah is? It's an Australian word for a loud-mouthed idiot, and that's probably the kindest definition. It's not Brawn's responsibility to make Renault and the R29 look like they suck less than they do. If it's the car that makes the driver as you seem to be implying, what does that say about your golden boy's two World Championships? Did he win them on merit, or did he win them because he had the best car and skill played no part in it? The fact that Renault consistently sucked until 2005 and consistently sucked from 2007 onwards suggests the latter ...

Again on news.bbc.co.uk
From Adam in Bolton via text on 81111: "Re 0803: Sounds like sour grapes from Flavio there - wonder if he would say the same if his team was one of the three! I think this year looks to be one of the best!"
From Edward, Northallerton, via text on 81111: "Re 0808: Ask Flavio, if it's all about diffusers, why are Red Bull so fast?! He's all mouth."

Agreed. Given that Hamilton made Alonso look pretty silly when they were both in the same team it does make you wonder whether Alonso was simply in the right car at the right time... hey and guess what, that's like Button in the Brawn!

Regardless, I'm still of the belief that Button is a talented and quick driver, he's just never had the car to prove it until now. And ironically, even Flavio couldn't provide the car to prove it when Button was driving for Renault all those years back.

He's already won both championships twice, why should he be still be so greedy?

It's funny you should say that, because I think it was Pat Symonds who once said that Button was just as good as Hamilton, but he's never had the hardware to prove it (until now). It was only in 2004 that we saw what Button could really do; elsewhere, he's had bad cars like the RA107 and 108 and had to deal with less-than-friendly management like Briatore.

Because his job and the continued existence of the team depend on it?

As much as this is a typical Flav comment (i.e. mad as a bag of wet badgers), without results Renault will not stay in Formula 1.

They are a manufacturer that has always expected big results for the investment they give, that those results have not been happening in the last few years has already had the Renault board thinking about a Formula 1 pull out.

Remember that Renault also lose its main sponsor at the end of 2009, when ING pull the plug on all F1 sponsorship. Without results Renault will struggle to attract new sponsors and the Renault board will certainly not make up the difference, they have much bigger things to worry about.

So he should start uniting Renault and getting some solid results instead of wasting his time giving his opinion to newspapers. If he wants that credibility, he should be out there earning it instead of complaining about who does and who doesn't deserve it while his aforementioned former Double World Champion struggles to set a laptime a whole one and a half seconds behind a car that isn't running KERS or a double diffuser. Even if the Brawn, Williams and Toyota diffusers had been banned, it doesn't change the fact that Renault wolud probably still be behind them because the R29 is apparently nothing more than thirty million dollars' worth of ballast with a nose that was apparently designed with the aerodynamic properties of an anvil in mind.

Briatore's comments are outrageous, and I hope he realises that he is as much an embarrassment to the sport as anyone. Insulting a driver (almost certainly referring to Button) in this manner is totally unacceptable, and I hope Briatore is made to pay for this.

Not likely. Somehow, I very much doubt Briatore has the ability to recognise his own flaws (and I'm referring to him in the sense of both the individual and the team as a whole). Domenicalli, Theissen, Horner, Whitmarsh, Brawn, Williams, Berger, Mallya and the guy from Toyota whose name escapes me right now can all do it to some degree - like Whitmarsh considering to offer his resignation in the fallout from Melbourne - but I've never known Briatore to openly say "this needs improving" unless he's using it as a criticism (ie "Nelsinho, this isn't good enough, you need improving").

Insulting a driver (almost certainly referring to Button) in this manner is totally unacceptable, and I hope Briatore is made to pay for this.
Not that this justifies it, but Briatore and Button have a history back when the Briton was signed to Bennetton after his debt season with Williams. Button underperformed for two seasons - he was F1 Rejects' Reject of the Year back in 2002 - and was consistently out-qualified and out-raced by his teammate (Fisichella or Trulli or both; I can't remember) and was dumped by Briatore in favour of the untried and untested Alonso (who, at the time, had one season with Minardi under his belt and one as a Bennetton tester), who was managed by Briatore at the time (and probably still is); the Italian has a habit of showing preference for the drivers he manages. I'd be very interested in what the whole of Italy thinks of Button, or whether Flavio is simply preseting his opinions as that of the nation.

At the end of the day, Briatore isn't going to be punished for this. I doubt he'll apologise or be fined or anything because it really isn't that necessary. All Jenson Button has to do is keep going the way he's been going and let his driving do the talking. His results compared to Renault's will be more than justice.

Yet according to an interview in Autosport, Briatore tried to hire Button to race for Renault this year!

If thats the case even more +respect for Button for still being loyal to his team despite other offers.

That's probaly what's made Briatore all the more angry:
Jenson Button
On Friday, Button responded to Briatore, and said the Italian should remember that he tried to hire him for his own team this year.

"Unless he is at the front of F1, I am sure [he thinks] any team [being there] hurts the credibility of F1," Button told reporters in Shanghai.

"He also needs to remember that he tried to employ me for this year, so..."

Button added: "He is obviously a very angry man after the diffuser issues and he is obviously very disappointed that they haven't produced a car that is as competitive as ours.

"We have produced a very competitive car because of the work force we have back at Brackely and you cannot take it away from them - it is very unfair to say that.

"They have worked very, very hard in very difficult circumstances and it is very, very unfair for Flavio to comment as he has just because he is a little bit bitter – he should also not forget he tried to employ me for this season."

When asked what was his team's response to Briatore's comments, Button said: "Laughing, basically."
I think Button's hit the nail on head here and I agree with him entirely about Briatore: unless his team is the one out the front, he'll always think that the current status quo will be bad for Fomula One. Can anyone recall Flav decrying Formula One as a dying art back in 2005 and 2006?

Fisichella out qualified Button 13 to 4 in 2001 and scored 8 points to Button's 2.

Trulli out qualified Button 12 to 5 in 2002 however Button scored 14 points to Trulli's 9.

I'm assuming this is what Flav is referring to.

Perhaps at some point in 2005 when his illegal mass dampers were out lawed. ;)

I'm absolutely loving this season so far.

I just accept Flavio for what he is and don't take much of what he says about other teams/drivers seriously. Every sport/company/family has that one obnoxious loud mouth that you have to put up with. Sure it can be annoying, but it wouldn't be quite the same without him.

Not me. My favourite team switched places with Honda.

Briatore wants money blocked from Brawn

Furious Renault boss Flavio Briatore plans to propose to fellow Formula 1 teams that Brawn GP is blocked from being given any television rights money for the 2009 season.

As the successor of the Honda Racing team, Brawn GP has a theoretical claim to the estimated 30 million Euros of money that would have been due to the Japanese manufacturer for competing this season - a move that was supported by the Formula One Teams' Association (FOTA).

However, on the back of the diffuser controversy and the extra costs teams are now facing in developing the concept, Briatore instead wants the money to be shared equally among Brawn GP's rivals.

Speaking to Italian media in the Shanghai paddock, Briatore said he would make an official proposal to FOTA to prevent Brawn GP getting hold of the payments.

"Despite some being against it, [Luca di] Montezemolo kept the FOTA united in supporting Brawn GP, and so did McLaren, in supplying engines," said Briatore.

"But since [Ross] Brawn was our technical delegate, and he forces me to spend money I don't have in my budget, and since Honda's money have luckily not been shared yet, we'll have a meeting.

"My proposal will be as follows. Brawn is richer than anyone else, because he's had his team paid for in full by Honda, plus he's had 130 millions given to him [by Honda]: he's certainly richer than I am.

"I don't want to be a Robin Hood, but when there's a situation where everyone is transparent then it's fine.

"At this moment my position is, since I need to find the money in the budget somewhere and the season can't end up with [everyone] being one second behind the Brawn cars, then the money share will have to be reviewed in full. I think it's around 30 million Euros."

Brawn GP has no guarantee of getting the Honda money because it was made a totally new team by the FIA. Had it been a simple renaming of the outfit, then rival teams would have had no call for the payments.

Briatore added that he would also push for Brawn GP to not receive any entitlement to transport costs - which are only guaranteed for established teams.

"Let's go with what the FIA said," he explained. "Since the FIA said it's a new team, then for once we agree with the federation. This is a new team, it's true: Honda officially said it left F1, and this isn't called Brawn Honda, it's Brawn alone. At this point I think the federation is right.

"Bernie refused that point because Bernie wants to send the money to the teams and the teams would transfer it. Brawn was very good in the appeal, so the federation said he's right.

"As FOTA commercial chairman I'll propose that we follow the FIA's indications that it's a new team and for three years it has no rights with regards to transportation, nothing."

When asked about the previous stance of FOTA members ensuring Brawn GP got all the money it was entitled to, Briatore said: "That was at Christmas, though. Now that Christmas has gone, we'll talk about it again next Christmas.

"Since it's a new team, it has to follow all the regulations we followed when we entered with new teams. I will propose that to FOTA, then we'll see."

The FOTA was fun while it lasted. Bernie and Max must be rubbing their hands with glee.

Does he want to kill a team just because they're doing better than him and the only way he can match them is suck Alonso's tank until it's down to fumes?

Oh, Briatore's in on it. He's their Aldrich Ames; he owns Queens Park Rangers with Ecclestone!

I've never though much of the man, but this is a new low for the sport.

Strange that. I heard that when Ross Brawn brought up the fact that there was a loophole in the regs, and proposed a solution, Renault and BMW were the teams that blocked his proposal thus allowing Brawn to exploit the loophole.

He has a point, though. New teams aren't supposed to get their share of TV money - and officially, the FIA classifies them as a new team.

Brawn didn't go by the "spirits", so why should they get money that, as a technically-new team, they're not supposed to receive?

I disagree with it, but he does have a point.

Once, again, the intentions behind it ae coming into play: is Flavio doing this because new teams are not supposed to be paid by FOTA, or is he doing it because he's right p!ssed off that Brawn are winning when he thinks they should be back fighitng with the Force Indias for position?
