Flip Top ModChip (Ignore first 3 posts)

I've just realised you physically has to pull the disc slot out against the motor so this modchip is prounced as a sucky one by me.

Im now looking at the Flip Top Mod Chip for my PS2 version 4/5. Does anyone here own one of these and do they work because im seriously thinking about one of these.

thats what i have, you put in the swap disc {dvd for dvd games/cd for cd games} then it will tell you to insert disc then you do the slide trick{there is a little white tab under the cd tray that you slide to the right then manually pull the disc tray open} swap in your game, slide the white tab back to the left and hit x on the controller. the whole idea is to swap the discs without hitting the eject button, by doing this the ps2 doesnt read the disc for regions.

here is a video i made demonstrating how this is done.

slide trick

this is also why i got the flip top, its way faster swapping the discs by just opening the top of my ps2, kinda like a cd player ;)

Does the flip top work well. And also what version is my ps2? Its says SCPH-30003 and the serial starts B0******, it has 8 screws on the bottom and has also an electrical warning there too. My guess is the version 4 or 5 but i need someone to back it up because the Mod sites only talk about NTSC ps2's. Could somebody confirm this please?

Mines a PAL version 4, gonna get my dad to order me one tomorrow through pay-pal. Then order TXR3 and GT4 Prologue

The reason why I want it is for all the GTC's along with GT4:P.

i have gtc 2002 tokyo-geneva {pal} gtc 2001 tokyo collection {Japanese} gt4 prologue, battle gear 3, initial d, and about 20 games i rented and burned to dvd that all work with the swap discs, its definatly a good investment. DARIN dont get GTC 2002 TOKYO-GENIVA, there is a ASIAN and KOREAN version, and you have to have a Japanese PS2 to play them, they will not work with swap discs !!!

^ I don't think that'll work without a Pal > NTSC patch or a small wire mod for the guts of the ps2. Either way, to play foreign games, you'll need a mod chip and you will need to add a few wires to the guts in order for your tv to properly see the import games.

Can anyone elaborate on this. Will NTSC region games play on my PAL PS2 just by using the flip top mod and the Swap Magic Boot Disks?

not at all. It's because you have a PAL tv. The tv won't support the different frequency and color codes for NTSC. Similarly, NTSC tvs won't support PAL. You'd need a tv capable of handling both and those are rare finds. Your only choice is the "Colour fix" included in the installation instructions for the Messiah 2 mod chip. Even that though may not help with the different frequencies between pal/ntsc. To fix that, you need to rip the game to your computer as an iso then use something like ADRPatcher. It's a really inconvenient process.

Your best choice would be to spend the $150 or so and have a DMS3 professionally installed - request the color fix with it if you like...actually, i'm not even sure if the color fix works on pal systems. Check around at www.ps2newz.net. They know more than I do

This is the question i posted at ps2newz

"Will NTSC games work on my PAL V4 PS2
I have a PAL V4 PS2 and i was wondering if i bought the Flip Top mod and Swap Magic V3.0 discs would i be able to play NTSC games. I can play my PS2 through my PC using a composite and WinTV and in WinTV there is a function to add a NTSC Composite channel. But will all this work?

Any feedback is appreciated.

Ed"

Yeah i know, i forgot to mention in here that i can play PS2 through PC via composite. The WinTV program im using says it'll add a NTSC composite channel. Do you think that'll work then?

if japanese games are NTSC then yea it will work for you. Else you will have to burn a copy of yours in order to apply a few patches.

i have the slide card, it is so great, if you buy a ps2 at best buy if the ps2 breaks then all you need to do is take it back tell them that it doesnt eject, then BAM! hello new ps2. but with the flip top ps2 breaks you are sol because you cant return it or get it fixed because you broke the seal. i think the slide card asside from a jspec ps2 would be the best idea. my friend had the fliptop, and he installed it wrong and the cd holder broke now his cd/dvd's wobble and scrach the crap out of them. one bad thing about the slidecard is it took 5 weeks to get here and the game got here in like a week and a half. so i had the game and no way to play it.

dude...you could just take an old credit card or student id card or some thick plastic card in general and MAKE a slide card yourself. It's not a difficult task.
