I have been seeing "Flipped Transmission" a lot in the threads concerning the transmission bug, and I have no idea what that means. Can someone please explain?

When you see someone post a tune and it says to:

1) Reset Transmission
2) Adjust Final Gear
3) Move Top Speed Slider to Minimum
4) Set gears 1-6
5) Adjust Final Gear

THAT is the transmission flip. I never knew exactly what it was either. I guess it's that SECOND setting of the Final Gear after you've also moved the Top Speed slider which is what NOW makes your transmission reset back to default values once you bring your car onto the track. The majority of tunes instruct us to set transmissions the way I described above, so literally thousands of people's cars are now being severely impacted by this recent change by PD.

Oh, wow. I have been doing that all this time, but I had no idea what it was intended for. When I do it, I set the Top Speed back a little bit, change the Final Gear, bring up the Top Speed by one or two notches, change the gears, and then set back the Final Gear to somewhere around 4.100

If this 'bug' was actually a patch for this glitch, then I am going to be really p'ed off because I had no idea about this method and I never even used the correct Flipping method. You can call my way a 'modification', since it doesn't take advantage of the RPMs and it doesn't allow for BS speed.

Thank you for explaining. I appreciate it. :)

What advantage is there to flipping a transmission? I thought that the overall gear ratios would end up being the same anyway...

tranny flip has been used since GT4. It's very effective for tuning cars that have very laggy turbos, because when you upshift, the revs don't go down as much compared to a regular tuned transmission, thus helping you stay in the powerband.

It also allows you to take advantage of gear ratios not normally available to you. For instance on some cars first gear cannot be tall enough to be an effective launch gear without doing the flip. The 458 being one that I remember the most. That car would benefit from a second gear launch. If you did the flip you could utilize 1st all the way through to 7th gear. Shorter gear spacing provides better excelleration and also eliminates shift lag. Giving you a very slight advantage over someone who didn't do this.
