I haven't read a thread on this yet and I just recently figured out how to access the airport runway areas (on Los Santos and San Fierro). If this has been mentioned elsewhere please let me know and I'll have Jimmy lock this...

These are both super easy and I'd be surprised if no one found these earlier...but since I haven't read about them (I'm avoiding spoilers so could have easily missed them), I thought I'd mention them just in case. Both are accessed essentially the same way-- drive up to the gate where it says that you don't have enough flying skill. Park the car next to the little shack, Get out of your car and jump up on the roof-- you can then climb up on top of the shack, walk across it and jump over the fence.

In Los Santos head south and there is a Dodo parked slightly to the right (you will have to jump a second fence but there is a ramp right there)--- I restarted a game to check and was able to access the Dodo right away.

In San Fierro you have to drive under the terminal (there is a tunnel) and eventually you will come to a gate--enter the same as before. There are several planes and helis around that you can't enter (maybe later) but finally I found a Maverick--- it doesn't fly near as well as the one from VC--maybe my flying skill contributes to the ability to fly this---I don't know yet...

Anyway--- I tried flying to the other islands. If you haven't opened the other islands yet you get shot down by jets-- kind of a bummer.

Do the bribes and Pay N sprays work on islands you haven't opened yet?? (Does anyone know)--just want to know if I can survive there for a while or if you are screwed.

I found out by accident that if you crash a motorbike into the airport gates in San Fierro (dunno if it works anywhere else) then you'll get the messsage about it not being accessible but when you're on the ground, the gate will open and you can get on your bike and access the airport. But I couldn't get into any of the planes, they were all locked.

There has been some talk about this already, but in a mixed set of thraeds.

If you taxi down the north runway at Los Santos airport you will also see the private jet parked on the right.
To get away form the missiles just do a hard turn (90 degree roll and pull back) to lose it. But beware another missile will lock on soon after. I have also heard of people flying straight at the fighter jet which stops it firing.
I don't think you can lose the 4 stars with the pay and spray. I think that was something mentioned pre-release by rockstar.

I did that last night, but I used a car carrier, and jumped the fence with a PCJ600, made it easier to get around, the freaking airport is huge, first plane I saw was a personal Jet and took off with it.....lots of fun let me tell you !

Is the private jet unlocked?? (is that why you mentioned it??)
Just make sure you hit triangle on the left.

Did you jump over where the fence is or the wall? Because you should see the Dodo if you got in via the wall.

did it over the wall, but on the side closest to the "industrial island" (sorry, forget the name !)
all empty field and closed hangers till i seen he private jet....( well, that and one of thosess baggage cars zipping around being very annoying )

The maverick wasn't locked 👍
Hmmm? where was the Maverick?, I searched high and low in the Airport and never found it, must not have looked hard enough.
I found the winged dodo in Los Santos pretty much the first time i went exploring, got shot down by jets though.
But alas all this does'nt matter anymore, as i have completed flying school and am assuming all the planes will be unlocked.

Maverick was on south side of the San Fierro terminal-- I never saw one at the Los Santos airport--- I've used it on one mission so far (one that required a long drive) saves some time. I might try it to intecept a courier (the next time I get a call)-- I'm still mudling around San Fierro--just failed Firefighter on level 8-- hit R3 on accident while aiming my turret/camera :banghead:....

^did you find the private jet ?
In Los Santos no. But in SanFierro yes all said they were locked though.

Spuds Cheers ill have a look!. Have'nt ventured a go at any R3 missions yet, too involved in the storyline. And a chopper would come in soo handy in this game driving the long distances does get a little tiresome after a while.
I was also thinking, it's gonna be a loooong! time before i get a 100%.

I just found another way in to the San Fierro airport-- on the south side of the airport there is water but there is a narrow spot and there is a cliff with a road on it above-- there isn't alot of room for a run up but I drove off the cliff toward the airport (with a a BF-400) at the most narrow spot and made it real easy-- you just need to line up your run real good so you don't end up in the water.

I'm at about 28% on 30 hours so far.

NO, there is a private jet in Los Santos, and it is unlocked.Sometimes, you can a 2nd across the runway.

There are no helicopters in Los Santos. I reached the Dodo, and the jet before San Fierro. The jet is fun to dogfight with the jets.

Same here.:( It pissed me off. Now I have the game gone and maybe I'll convince my mom to rent it again.:grumpy:

This is fun hearing about you guys just being able to fly today. I flew last week and discovered the harsh way of ousting you from Las Venturas and San Fierro.:(

Is it me or was anyone glad that the Airports actually have air vehicles in them... In Vice city the airport didn't have a single chopper or plane that you could fly!!!

C.

Same with GTA 3. I love it. I love flying by Passenger Jet too (the non-stealing way). It's fun to watch the cut-scene. I like how you can either watch the cut-scene, jump from the plane or skip to landing. The Airport is really well-done in my opinion.

I've just learned to fly in the game the proper way. The planes aren't as easy to fly as the Skimmer (but much easier than the Dodo) but it's cool being able to do barrel rolls and loop the loops and cool stuff like that.

I'll certainly make use of planes much more than in Vice City. The Skimmer was boring as hell to fly.

KM.

Ugh... that Skimmer was awful... altho I liked the way you could loop the loop using the water at the bottom!! The physics were real badly done for the plane in VC...

I'm yet to fly in SA... and am looking forward to it...

I think I've only got a couple more missions in LS then I'll be off to SF... soon hopefully!!

C.

I don't think the Skimmer was done overly that bad. I also didn't mind flying it. However, San Andreas' planes are so much more realistic, and I love how they explode on head-on or heavy impact! I love the planes, alot, but I just hated that damn mission.

It was just boring and pointless. I only ever flew it to get top spot in the record book. At least flying the planes in San Andreas could be a lot of fun. There's plenty of fun could be had maneuvering through the arches in the desert or under the bridges and doing loops and rolls while your at it.

KM.

I didn't mind the skimmer from VC at all either....considering it was the only plane you could fly ( really) I spent quite a bit off time 'skimming' around..loved it !

Skimmer sucked--- couldn't fly it very high, could only land on water-- I could see the point of it if you got one at the mansion and it respawned.

I'll try out the jet the next time I'm near Los Santos-- I actually like the dodo-- you can fly it pretty high and its pretty good for aerobatics (loops, rolls, etc...) also, FYI.... riding as a passenger in a jet counts toward your flight time too.

The only think I don't like about the airports is a lack of good jumps-- I haven't taken a bike into Los Santos' yet but San Fierro's airport is kind of boring in that respect.

I'm just curious, if others are like me and ride the motorcycles the most-- I maxed my bike skill long ago and still am at about 75% for my driving skill-- the only reason I ever grab a car now is to improve my driving skill.

I go nearly everywhere on motorbike - Sanchez for off-road and others for road use. Apart from the Freeway and Wayfarer. They suck.

I think I'll take a NRG500 and stick in my garage in Las Venturas.

As for the flying thing, I bet the flight times in the record book will be a hell of a lot higher than in the Vice City recordbook.

KM.

Go to the Yellow marker to go into the Airport. It wil prompt a screen to fly somewhere. Pay for a trip and watch the cut-scene.

I agree, but I didn't mind the Skimmer. The San Andreas planes, however, eat the Skimmer right up. I love all of the Planes so far. The Dodo is cool. I like those old War Planes.

I drive most places. Just because I love cars, and love alot of cars on this game. However I use the Sanchez alot to ride around the country, and I love the road bikes. Especially the FCR-900. Great bike. Don't mind the NRG-500 either.

I don't think the Wayfarer is bad. I haven't driven the Freeway yet, but I didn't mind it in Vice City. Not for racing or speeding too much though.

So many new things I discover yet SA is gone. I must get that game re-rented!

Have any of you flown the commercial jet?

It's on the far left of the Las Venturas airport in a huge hangar. It's really cool to fly it, jump out and watch it careen into a building.

Excuse my ignorance, but where exactly is the gate at which you are told that you don't have enough flying skill to enter? I can't seem to find it despite being around the LS airport about 5 times.
