Well, this wedding thing is getting closer and closer.

On Friday, I picked up our wedding bands (for the expense, I ought to be able to wear them right now). Yesterday, I was fitted for a tuxedo. A friend brought over the favors for everyone who's attending the reception. We're even getting junk mail that has "Mr. or Mrs." on it; before it was one name or the other. Most of all, I finally memorized my vows.

Marraige is coming soon for me; the signs are everywhere. And to me, it's just another day on the inside of me; I'm not stressed or worried, concerned nor fretful. The only feeling I have is that I'd like to get the ceremony over with, because late-June is a terribly wet time of year in S. Florida.

How did the rest of you married folks deal with the impending day? And is there any rite of passage that I forgot to take care of while I'm still single?

We pretty much have the same amount of junk. I have mine, she has hers. And she's Catholic, so I don't expect a divorce. We've known each other 6 years, so we've covered that ground before. We've had our fights, and always made up or reconciled.

Besides, I don't think she'll take the PSX, nor my vast bank account which can't afford a PS2 when the bills are all paid for.

I'm guessing this is a nice thing to say; but I do know that in these parts of Florida, huevos means something other than "eggs".
 
I felt the same as you. No stress leading to the day and none on the wedding day. I was ready. I just wanted it done with so I could get on with the rest of my life.

It's more about the fact that you are standing up in front of everyone that's important to you, and making a commitment to your partner in front of all those important people. Marriage is a public thing.

Pupik: You just have to think about everything that you could possibly need. Oh, and save up, because in the week before, you'll think of all sorts of things that you have to get but haven't so far. We spent heaps in the week before!

If you've got a wedding list, you should interrogate the store to find out who's bought you what. This will give you a head-start in writing all the thank-you letters!

Have you got the honeymoon organised? The stag night?

Also, think about the night before the wedding, and how you're going to organise that.

Pupik... when it's all over you and your wife will look at eachother and smile when you hear others getting close to their day. There's such a major build up and then it's over in one day.

I'll assume your role in the planning was mostly that of accompanying consultant?

My wedding day was one of the best days in my life. In the last few weeks leading up to it I got butterflies here and there, but no anxiety. The actual day, however, I was quite anxious. Not about getting married but about being the center of attention at a very expensive party that many people travelled accross the country to attend. When I got to the chapel I thought I forgot my tuxeedo pants and said the "F" word in front of my mom for the first time. When I finally got up there and saw my wife come down the aisle with her dad everything except her disappeared. We held eachother's hands the hole time and it was like we were the only people in the world. I'd asked her to give me this honor over a year earlier and it was finally happening. The reception was just a blast and it was just a great day.

And then suddenly you'll have matching plates and silverware and a nice set of pots and pans...

The anticipation is part of it. Enjoy it. Sounds like all you need now is for the date to arrive. Congratulations.

I'll ditto milefile above. I had no reservations or anxiety through out hte lead up to the day. It did seem like mass hysteria tryin to make sure everything landed in it's correct spot the day of the wedding. When all things considered, it really didn't matter. Everything worked out very nicely, and smoothly.

In fact, I was playing GT3 with my brothers that morning, dressed in my suit, drinking a beer. Then set a landspeed record to the up the mountain to where we got married.

Pupik, it's all over before you realize it, and make sure to talk with as many friends and relatives as possible. Don't lock your knees when you stand you'll pass out.

Make sure everyone gets the chance to take pictures.

Whatever will go wrong will, don't stres about it.

At first, it just seems like planning a big party....then it all hits you. So far, we've have not expereinced any nightmares; everything's gone to plan so far, we're under budget (so far!), and a lot more family and friends are helping out. They know we're each working hard, and planning is a one-day-a-week affair. Luckily, we had lots of time to plan (I proposed to Kathy over 2 years ago).

Last weekend was my best man's wedding (and an simply amazing one at that), but there were flaws here and there that the wedding party could see. He and the missus were steaming over this and that...I told them, don't worry about the little things that didn't work; 10 years form now, we'll be joking about those things, not to mention, the other 120 guests don't have a clue about this hitch or that...

It's nice to know my fiancee has a tolerance for F1 racing; and (almost) all things automotive. Gran Turismo isn't exactly her favorite game in the world, though... (You have 7 other games you never play!)

I consider myself a lucky man...and you have to be good for luck to last!

I'll vote too that the missus has a high disliking for GT3. Partly the reason I don't play anymore. Hopefully she'll get over it...

Yes, there will be hitches along the way. Mine went well, with only two small hitches. One was the better half showed up 1/2 hour late. Was I nervous...???nah, I just was able to visit with folks a bit more. The other hitch was Her mom packing us a few plates of food to take up to the cabin in the middle of east nowhere VT. Seems Mom packed a great display, but loaded it in the wrong car. So our wedding night dinner was the package of frozen hotdogs, and the only can of soup we could find in the cupboard.

Other than that, no big deal.

Thanks Pupik. It was a beatufiul spot. Atop Mt. Philo in Vermont. The states oldest park. Could drive all the way up to the top. We rented the "Function hall" and the park for $75 for the day. Then had Burgers, dogs, and sausage off the grill (Her dad, and the pastor BBQ'd) a few Costco platters and a few cases of soda. BYOB.

You can see my brother showed up in flip-flops and shorts. It was very laid back.

There were only two hitches at our wedding. We'd asked the minister to read a poem we'd chosen, and he read something totally different. We were just looking at eachother like, "Huh?" And during the reception my wife's grandfather, who's a real gem, decided to sing some song to us over the DJ's mic. We were like "ooookay... you can stop any time now." We just laugh about it now. Except about the poem. That was a bummer but what can you do...

And as far as GT goes... looks like we're all in the same boat. Tolerance is good.
 
We were blessed. Nothing at all went wrong for us. We even had a beautiful day, which was funny, because the previous day was appalling. We got married in our University Chapel, which was excellent.

The wife is well into F1 (we've been to six races in the last four seasons), but no other motorsports at all.

I usually play GT or the EA Sports baseball game with my girlfriend. Strangely, from snoopie I get "Doug, you're 25 - how can you still play video games?!" He's probably just sour 'cos he's getting hosed in FF1.
