No DVD collection will be complete with out the The Indiana Jones Trilogy. Its true its finally comming out on DVD this year.

Here's some additional corroboration to the rumor we've been reporting about The Indiana Jones Trilogy FINALLY coming to DVD later this year from Paramount and Lucasfilm. In an interview with In Focus magazine (which is a publication for theater owners), writer/director Lawrence Kasdan (the man who scripted both Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Empire Strikes Back) has let on that the Indy DVDs ARE indeed in the works. Here's the relevant passage:

[Question] Now, you told Starlog in 1981 about your “Raiders” script rewrite: “A little bit of my script's logic and character development fell out along the way.” What was missing? And will it show up on the Indiana Jones DVDs?

[Kasdan] I don't think so. [laughs] Actually, I ran into Frank Marshall over the holidays, and he's working on that [DVD] collection. I don’t think there's going to be a lot of.... I don't know what they have planned. They obviously made a lot of smart decisions about what should be in the movie and what shouldn't.

When you're a beginning writer, you know, you hurt for everything that's lost. After you've directed 10 movies, you see that you cut stuff for a reason.

Click here to read the complete interview at In Focus. Thanks to the MANY Bits readers who sent this in. Slowly but surely, the evidence is mounting that old Indy will indeed be cracking his whip in your home theaters before the year is out.

Stay tuned...

This is good news indeed! :) I'll remain somewhat skeptical though, because it had been on a release calander at least 2 times before, and the last time (11/01) it was killed only a few months before it's release.

Finally! It's a little comic-bookish, but it's always entertaining to see them. Usually, I catch them on TV, and they hook me in until the credits roll.

So that just leaves the Star Wars trillogy, right? What's the holdup on that for DVD? By 2005-06, we're probably just a few years away from the next medium....(perhaps blue-ray?)

The first Trilogy will be released when the whole series is done, and probably as a 100 dollar+ boxed set that pretty much everyone will buy.
And it's funny you compare Raiders to comics. Basically they were meant to resemble early serials which also influenced how comics were designed (and more or less still are.)

Hey i will shell out 100 + dollars if i have too for this trilogy. :)

Its official !

As we reported in The Rumor Mill the other day, the Indy DVDs are at long last about to be revealed! We're expecting Star Wars.com to officially announce later this morning that The Indiana Jones Trilogy will street on DVD from Paramount and Lucasfilm on November 4th. Look for a box set of 4 discs (1 each for the films and a 4th disc of extras), under the grandiose moniker The Adventures of Indiana Jones: The Complete DVD Movie Collection. Specs should include the films in anamorphic widescreen with 5.1 audio in Dolby Digital and (probably) DTS formats. Look for new interviews with Harrison Ford, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg and more. Best of all, no alterations have been made to the films themselves, other than digital clean-up for the DVD release. More specific information and cover art should be available later this morning. We'll post all the details when they come in, so be sure to check back. In the meantime, you can read more on this at USA Today. Not bad for a Tuesday morning, eh?
Oh yeah cant wait. http://www.thedigitalbits.com/index.html#mytwocents

UPDATE: Well, I purchased the Trilogy and I am so far impressed. I have only watched Raiders of the Lost Ark so far but the image quality is amazing. This is a must have for anyone's DVD collection. If you buy it at BestBuy you get an extra DVD that has a 10 minute making of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

I'm looking forward to watching all the bonus material that was included in the set sometime soon.

Well of course I bought this last tuesday. Love how it looks. Very clear picture.

Yep, picked mine up the day it came out. Have watched all three movies, but haven't popped the Bonus Disk in yet.

As Der Alta...

And yes.. The picture and sound is EXCELLENT !... Well worth it if you ask me !...

I've watched the first two, and had a quick look at the bonus disc. The featurettes about the stunts and effects were very good. I've not watched the full length "making of" yet though.

I'll be a bit narked if they only release Star Wars as a box set of all six films. The first two were very disappointing. I only want the original three.

Mmmm.. Have the LE boxset on LD... ;)

Flerbizky: I have the LE set on VHS, but I want it on DVD. What is a Laser Disc anyway? Are they any good? I've heard of them but never seen one.

Bollocks: If it's any help I paid £35ish for it from Tesco. I only went in there for a bottle of milk and some beer.

As an aside, why does "Bollocks" not get got by the swear filter? :odd:

LaserDiscs are like the ultimate movie format of the stoneage ;) Discs as big as a vinyl album (12") with an 7Mhz analog video signal and sound being either analog, a DD encoded RF stream or direct DTS.. Picture quality from the best players will rival that of the of a high-end DVD but then you're gonna be paying big money for it !...

I like 'em.. But I also like my vinyl albums... :odd:

Because this forum is based in the United States, and it's not considered a swear over here.

In truth many US citizens don't have a clue to it's meaning

Flerbizky: So it's kind of like a 12" CD? What happened, did they not catch on or something?

DA: You guys are really missing out on a great word there! It's usefulness rivals the "F" word. There are just so many uses for it.

I guess you could say that :D They do, at least, LOOK like great big 12" cds ;)

They caught on alright, but not with the masses. The price of a movie back in the days were like 5-6 times of the same movie on VHS, and the players - Don't even ask ;) Tha said - I haven't been into LD's for more than 6-7 years.. Until then I couldn't afford the stuff - even used semi low end stuff....
