Images of Ford's new Lincoln MKR Concept have leaked ahead of its official unveiling at the Detroit auto show in early January. The four-door rear-wheel-drive sedan is powered by a 415 horsepower twin-turbocharged V6. Peak horsepower comes at 5750 rpm, while peak torque of 400 pound-feet arrives at 2000 rpm.

A six-speed automatic with manual shifting sends the power to the rear wheels — good for a zero to 60 times of 5.3 seconds. The MKR runs on E85 ethanol fuel. Overall weight is 4075 lbs, and pricing is expected to be over $50,000, if a production version was made.

...Wow, I'm really split with this car. I really like the idea, and the overall look of the car is top-notch. However I'm sure people are going to hate that grille complete with outrageously large emblem, but I personally think it looks kinda cool.

I'm wondering what the possibility of production is, as I believe this is based on the Mustang chassis... Or maybe the next RWD Mustang chassis...
 
Like the idea of a FR Ford flagship...

but the Grille! I thought the 300C had a big, chrome-laden mouth... Headlights are too small, anyways for this monster...
 
Look closely at the tire tread, they even marked them with the Lincoln insignia!

The front of that car makes me want to vomit.

But, the idea of a 415 bhp, FR V6 car is pretty sweet. If ford pulls this off well, it could stir up the luxury market.
 
How would one pronounce this? "Mark R?" "Em Kaye Are?" "Merkur?"
But seriously, I must say it is a smashing idea. So long as thet give it an actual name ("Continental" sounds good) and clean up the styling.
 
Looks awful, but hopefully we see that engine in something else doing the same thing. I do like the interior, but ones like that never go into production. I'd assume that the engine is the 3.0L Duratec that is also used in the Noble M400.
 
Horrible grill... just horrible.

Rest of the car is not too bad, and Ford does need something.... but that grill, even the Gillette grill is better than this...

My short opinion, stated very frankly: Oh. My. Gawd. That grille is :censored:ing disgusting. I feel violated by the sheer obscenity of it.

The rest of the car is fine, if boring. But that grille is just gross. Has Ford forgotten about the Edsel?
 
What I hate:
-The name (Enough with the alphabet soup 🤬 already!!!)
-That face (Bastard child of a B6 VW Passat and a Pontiac Torrent :yuck: )

What I love:

Well, lets consider it's predecessor for the moment:

I'd say it is a pretty reasonable follow-up to the "sporty" MKVIII. I like the idea of a hardcore Lincoln to better compete with the likes of the Cadillac V-series and the various German rivals, but even in "standard" form, this car should be rather interesting.

Okay, the grille is a little large... But I just find it so strangely attractive. But I'm weird, so it may just be me...

The front-end is just so menacing, I love it! Car and Driver has always been known to "give" a car to Darth Vader every once in a while, and a good guess would be that if indeed this concept was black, this probably would have made the cut...

Ugly, yes, but ye gods, I like the looks... Ford might not be serious about production for this, but it has "personality", something you can't accuse many new Lincolns of having. :lol:

C'mon, Ford... make it... might as well build up Lincoln if you're really serious about selling Jaguar.

The grill is hideous and too big, the headlights are too small, the emblems are too big, I don't like the character lines that hint at non-existant vertical taillights, and I really, really don't like the flatness of the front and rear ends.

Looking at the car from the side, these problems all but disappear...but then it looks merely "okay." It's concepts like this that make me glad that most concepts are changed rather drastically before being turned into real models.

At least the interior is neat...oh, and Car and Driver's title for their article on this car is :rolleyes:-tastic.

Most four-door concept cars make use of reverse-hinged "suicide doors" to provide a clear look at the vehicle's interior, while adding some exotic flair. For a Lincoln concept, such doors make even more sense given the popularity of the 1961 Lincoln Continental among car buffs.



But Lincoln's latest concept — the MKR — has regular doors and a full b-pillar. The internal debate over what type of doors to use for the concept was a source of much tension for the development team, according to Automotive News. In the end, the team decided to use regular doors in part because they are more feasible for a production car.



Production feasibility was an important factor in the design of the MKR, said Xitij Mistry, the designer who drew the car's exterior. When design director Pat Schiavone saw the finished concept, he was impressed. "I love it, love it, love it," he said. "To me, it almost looks like a production car, and that was a bit of a surprise. It's real, and that's a good thing."

They could make the head lights bigger and grilles smaller, but I think they are on the right track. One of the better looking concepts to me for sure.

P.S. I love the front emblem. :D
 
I know this is mostly about the MKR, but has anyone seen the MKX? I never even heard of it until Sunday. It was on display in the Time Warner building, NYC, on New Year's Eve. It's like a re-faced RX350. :odd:





Not pretty, not ugly, but probably invisible...when it's not inside a shopping mall.
 
Lincoln edition of Edge, right? Couldn't have agreed more. They could have done worse, but it's still far from what I would want.
 
The MKX isn't too bad, a halfway decent competitor to the Buick Enclave and Lexus RX330. But it is a bit heavy, slightly gaudy, and a bit thirsty at the fuel pump.

...I don't know if I would pick one up (its stablemate, the Mazda CX-7, is FAR better), but I may look at one if I was in the market for a luxury crossover.
 
I think it looks a little too conservative, but I like the way it looks because of that.

I wouldn't pick one up for any reason; crossovers just don't do it for me. But is this the market Lincoln wants to get into? They're the top Ford USDM brand; with all the sub-brands Ford has, shouldn't a small SUV have been pushed down to Mercury and finally let them have a semi-unique product?
