In short: Next years planned upgrades to local models to go ahead - All local manufacturing finished by October 2016 - Both engine and vehicle factories to close.

Not that anybody is that surprised, and it has zero detrimental effect on anywhere other than Australia. It's just a matter of time before the other two manufacturers follow suit.
 
Yeah not surprised either.

Lots of good performance parts were built at Ford Australias plants. Shame to see it go.
 
That's a true shame - my heart goes out to those now out of work..

Hopefully Ford AU continues as a tuning company of sorts or at least a parts manufacturer/distributor.
 
It's been coming for a long time sadly but they can't keep making a car that's expensive to produce and doesn't sell that well anymore (not sure if it ever did though)
 
The Falcon was a consistent seller, but ever since the AU, things have been going downhill. The production of the Territory saved them for a few years, but then the GFC came along and really killed it.

It's a great shame. Hopefully those plants can be re-tooled for other manufacturers and at least some of the workers keep their jobs. Highly unlikely though, unless GM decides tomorrow that they need to sell the entire Commodore range in the US and feel rich enough to re-tool several factories.

The big problem about the Falcon in particular was that when sales plumeted back in 2007, they should have offered not just the 4.0L six but a four cylinder. A bit late I think, they were greatly reluctant to move with the times and soon the Holden Commodore is going to go to a four pot
 
Product development is still going to be on going in Australia. it is very sad we will loose most of our work force tho! (yes i work at Ford Australia!)

I have actually been saving up for a fg xr6 think this news will change the price? Any plans for one last falcon?
 
Ford has been on the verge of this on a few occasions in the last couple decades, I guess they are finally pulling the plug now though. I am not suprised and even though I am not the biggest Falcon fan I am sad to see it go (along with the jobs etc).

Ford Performance Racing acknowledges the announcement made earlier today by Ford Australia that the company will cease the production of vehicles at its Broadmeadows manufacturing plant in Victoria from October 2016.

However, the announcement does not alter the current discussions already underway between FPR and Ford Australia surrounding the extension of the close working relationship between the two companies.

"While we are of course sorry to hear that Ford will be ending local production from October 2016 this by no means signals an end to Ford in Australia, nor to the close relationship we have with the company," team owner Rod Nash said.

"Ford is a robust global company and one that has taken a tough decision to ensure the future viability of its business here in Australia. It will continue to be a significant force in the Australian automotive landscape.

"We are proud to fly the Ford flag and look forward to doing so for years to come."

My guess is, even if they stop making the Falcon, if Ford is committed to the V8 Supercar series, we may see them change to a different car. Fusion?
 
When I heard this, (for those who don't know, I'm an American but my dad worked 30 years for Ford), I wanted to scream. Such a sad day for an company and car itself that is really beloved by Australia, but around the world as well.

Taurus. Also, the Fusion is just a Mondeo, and we've already got that.
Either of those two would replace the Falcon. Although beyond this current agreement they have, I doubt they'll support the catagory. It just hasn't proved to be a positive business venture for them for a while.

Not all that surprising. The Falcon has zero export potential and Ford is concentrating on moving all its manufacturing efforts to Thailand.
 
How much did our stupid government pump into that factory to try to keep it alive, I don't know if the falcon was the only thing they made there.
But I think the Focus and Fiesta are made overseas.
Not sure about those stupid school mum cars.

But pumping money into a company that mainly makes large cars that use a fair amount of petrol is stupid in my view as people these days want cars that are fuel efficient in Australia.
 
A lot of people want an FPV ute.

Not enough of them are willing to buy one brand new for Ford Australia to make a business case of keeping either the Falcon or FPV alive.

And since the Falcon is being dropped in 2016, its been said that FPV will go too.
