The Global alignment is supposed to begin somewhere around 2010-2011, so having one shortly after the close of the decade is reasonable. This current Focus isn't going to sell well, they'll need to replace it soon anyway...

-> :dunce:

The Americans won't even see a MkII Focus in 2010 much less a MkIII. Face facts, Ford US is screwing you guys--and me because I live here. Damn you Ford...damn you. The absolute best thing Ford makes as a world company has to be the MkII Focus. Its just that good.
^ Take note that this wasn't the first time; what about the brutish Falcon, the euro-squashing new Mondeo, the excellent Transit commercial van, and lastly the S-Max. :indiff:

^ I really do hope they will. FoMoCo USA is being one big arrogant division, while the rest of world are sharing the love. Even the Philippines has the Mk.II Focus even its powered by a 1.6L. :indiff:

That's not his point, he was just saying that the C30 is as close as you can get to a MKII Focus and even then the Focus is better.
^ If were talking the ST model, then yes. ;)

Actually not only has my brother (finally) traded "our" 2004 Focus for a new one (yay no more car notes on my credit!) but you will be happy to know that the new Focus is selling like pretty good around here considering the car industry isn't doing so well this year.

From Europe; the Mondeo, S-Max, Transit, Escort (the good one), Ka, Puma/Fiesta (the good one), and the MkII Focus.

From Australia; everything?

Lcuky bastards...even the 1.6L petrol is a fantastic car that kills the MkI.

I hope you guys have enough babies to keep them running!

What do you mean by "you guys"? :yuck: Its his car, let him feed that mofo. :sly: I'd be happy to shove come babies under the bonnet, lord knows there are enough Americans on this planet anyway. :dopey:

I doubt the US will ever see the MKII Focus, if the global allignment does come into effect and you get our Focus as opposed to us getting yours then you'll probably jump straight from the MKI based model you have now to the MKIII.

Well, looks like we Americans are going to have to buy our RS from Volvo:

Autoblog
Mere minutes after receiving word that Volvo would begin producing the C30 hatch, we've been speculating about the possibility of a performance version that would evolve the stylish three-door into a GTI competitor. The announcement that Ford is developing a new Focus RS has given us even more reason to be hopeful. Pure speculation and performance prognostication says that the 2.5-liter turbocharged mill shouldn't be an issue since it's already fitted into the C30's platform siblings, the Focus ST and S40, plus, all-wheel-drive could be part of the equation.

A 300+ hp C30R has the potential of joining the Mazdaspeed3 as another way of satiating our desire for a hot Focus, and if the price, we're smelling a hit.

Thanks for the tip, Paul!

No surprise really, I just hope it isn't too expensive...

And they can make that god-awful rear look acceptable.

If you get one in black it makes a huge difference. I saw one in the flesh with limo tint and it looked fantastic.

Personally speaking, I love the rear on the C30, and in all actuality, its actually a selling-point for me. The dealer had a white/gold one a while back with all of the "sport" options checked, my God it was gorgeous!

But, sadly, I wouldn't want to spend the $30K on it that they were asking for...

Not an inspiring commercial, being driven very carefully. It looks great though and looks quite a wide track at the back, it wasn't going particularly fast but looked perfectly stable round that hairpin. I'm ratehr excited about this car, I will have one in dark blue please ford.

One word: 4WD.

I wouldn't mind having one, except for the fact that I'd probably wreck it the day after I bought it.

I am pretty sure they made it front wheel drive to save weight.

From the OP:

Power will, apparently, come from a tweaked version of Volvo’s 2.5 litre turbocharged motor (similar to the one in the ST) developing 280bhp and a gearbox-melting 400lb-ft of twist – power is expected to be transmitted through a four-wheel drive system.
:odd: Unless they changed it between then and now.

Ford themself have said that it will be FWD. it has been the enthusiasts who have been hoping for AWD fast Ford ever since cossie escort went out of production. I guess this is Fords way to keep tuners in check, not giving it drivetrain that could deliver excessive amount of power to the road. helps to avoid warranty claims too, I bet. :D

Perhaps it's just beacuse they haven't got the 4wd tech to rival those of Subaru and Mitsubushi so they stick to what they know (and do very well) and go with FWD.

Though, the axle manufacturers at Visteon could really do with the extra workload plzthxbye.

Ford does have the knowledge to build a proper 4WD road car. Only 4WD would have made the car heavier (so less responsive) and more expensive. With making the RS a FWD, Ford can demonstrate it's expertise in building proper handling FWD's. I'm sure the new RS will surprise everybody, just as the previous RS did :sly:

Agreed. For a front wheel drive the old RS was impressive despite people being disappointed in it. This one has a fair bit more power and hopefully will supply it just as well if not better. 4wd would have been nice but I am excited to see how much they can squeeze out of an FF.

Knowing how stubborn Ford has been over the years (look at the Mustang-it was supposed to have IRS, what, 40 years ago, and it still doesn't have it), it'll probably be FWD. 4WD would make it more of a new Escort Cossie, and Ford doesn't want to do that. Although, with 400 lb. ft., it'd better be 4WD.
And, since it's based on the ST, which we don't get, us in the U.S. will probably be left out yet again.

^Good. (Except for the FWD part!:grumpy:)It would probably have to be a diesel to make 400 lb/fts., and if it was, it wouldn't make 280 hp.
The Focus ST in GT5P is very good, wonder how the RS will be.
