The XL Falcon was introduced in August 1962, replacing the XK Falcon which had been in production since 1960. Visual changes from the XK included a new convex grille, bumper mounted park/turn lights, new taillights and a revised, squared off roofline (on the sedans only) which was promoted as the "Thunderbird roofline". Other changes included a new gearbox, clutch, starter motor, air cleaner, carburettor and suspension system.
The standard 144 cu in (2.4-litre) 6 cylinder engine was supplemented by an optional 170 cu in (2.8-litre) 6 cylinder "Pursuit 170" engine introduced in October 1962. A three speed manual gearbox was standard, with a two speed "Fordomatic" automatic transmission available as an option.
The XL was replaced by the XM Falcon in February 1964, production having totalled 75,765 units.

OP has been updated with background information and links to other articles with more detailed specifications.

Enjoy :)

Nice choice! My dad's father actually has a black Falcon XL 2-door model himself.

A 2-door XL! That's something I've never seen. We never got those here in Australia. The first 2-doors here were the following model, the XM, in hardtop form.
I've seen pics of later model, USA 2-doors and it's a pity they didn't bring them here.
Our 2-door supply was the XM & XP of 1964/65 and then we didn't see them until our locally produced XA, XB & XC hardtops made between 1972 & 1978.
