I read that article in the latest Car & Driver on the Ford Futura Sprint GT/A and I could not figure out what was going on. First of all, I couldn't tell if it was for sale in the US. I thought that Ford couldn't use "Futura" in the US becuse it was already used for some tire (presumbaly called the Futura something). Also I never heard of this car before in my life, and I doubt anything would get by me considering how much of a loser I am. In addition, it was tagged as a normal road test, which is weird because they put a Flying Spur in their little graphs in the specs, maybe that was just for fun.

Any help would be much obliged.

Good god those headlights are ugly. They look exactly like my Focus headlights--which do not look good on that car.

yes that. Even though it looks squashed I like it. It does look Australian, and since even the great I have never heard of it... go figure. Nice color too.
I have that issue (ithink) if i can find it I'll post again.

Thanks, BX. I didn't think that the article would be up this soon.

But the Car Connection article you linked is just a speculation article about the Fusion.

I guess the Fusion was going to be called the Futura at first, which would have been the biggest joke since Chevy called their Toyota Camry a Malibu.

You see that face and all you could talk about are the headlights!? Those Gillete grilles are hideous. They are just like Fusions'!

I wish I could be this brave someday..... :p

'tis? hmm but isnt that just like the fusion then?
I was gonna say..... Instead of another "6", I wish Ford made their own version of Fit or Swift. I believe the new (beautiful)Swift is supposed to go on sale in the U.S. pretty soon.

No no, this has to be a joke. Consider first that they compared it the Flying Spur for no particular reason. Second, did you guys look at the specs?

Torque… less than 245 lb-ft @ 2800
4-wheel-drive system… center differential and friendly whirling, half-shafts apparently at all four corners
Curb weight: 6521 lb
Weight distribution, F/R… 32.4%/58.0%
Curb weight per horsepower… not bad at all
Spare… appears to be inflatable
And many more. Plus, there’s a lot of gibberish in the article itself, such as:
As such, that old truism obtains: You can’t take to the bank what you still owe.
This is definitely a joke, possibly something they concocted with Ford.

Haha your new Futura's are much different to ours.

The rear door handles look very far forwards. Are they suicide doors?

It's CG. albeig, very good CG, but CG nonetheless.

and I'd guess it's a joke. since there's no place for it in the U.S. lineup.

No no, it was a product development study done by Ford to see how well a wagon would work out for the general public. It was kinda supposed to be a "what if" type situation, using bits and pieces from the Ford family of cars from all across the world, baisicly building a working prototype car that you could technically build yourself...

Thanks YSSMAN

That bothered me too. They don't look like sliders and they couldn't be hinged on that little bit above the fender.

Hmmm... I smell fishes.
Couldnt find anything about it, never heard about it befor except in c/d. Hmmmm....

Hello? did any of you read the article? ''The Futura Sprint resembles — in size and aspect, in warp and weave, in tone and tenor — nothing so much as a Mazda 6 wagon, although onlookers are quick to fixate on the Ford’s single door on the passenger side and its dual doors on the driver’s side, one of which opens suicide-style.''

''The Futura Sprint GT/A is no rocket but does easily keep up with, say, a Chevy Malibu Maxx for the length of the quarter-mile. The car is more at home on a road course or skidpad, where its 17.5-inch Fulda Redcoats grip like Iowa chiggers, assisted by unflappable standard-issue Monroe triple-adjustable shocks, independently toggled to one’s preferred setting via a chrome rheostat next to the ashtray. The settings are imaginatively named. In order of firmness they are: Harbor Freeway, Santa Monica Boulevard, and Mulholland Drive. Brown reports that the original idea was for the firmest setting to be called “Good Vibrations,” but the marketing mavens nixed it.''

Wait. WTF?!

Makes sense. The Futura Prototype is just a way of crusing around easily, the street names are identifyable with most Americans... Well they are for me anyways... Mulholland Drive is a good name for the top spot, apparently the roads up there are pretty twisty. Steve McQueen used to race his special-eddition Jaguar XKE up there quite a bit, got him into a bit of trouble as well...

As I said, WTF?!^^ I cant find anything on 'Monroe' shocks, or Fulda Redcoat tires.

Whats a rheostat?

little do you realise...that "gilette mach three" face is ford's new design signature. also...it's not only the Falcon the futura package plate was used

on this site
