What's the difference? Excuse my lack of knowledge of Mustangs, mainly because I've only seen one in my life and it was a convertible from about 2000.
I'm not sure, nor do I portend to be an expert for tuner cars, but I checked the Ford Mustang SVT Cobra's statistics and found it to get 390 horsepower out of a 4.6-litre supercharged V8; from what I can gather on the Internet, the SVT Cobra R gets just 385 - it handles better, but I don't think it's any faster.Originally posted by Frustrated Palm
The SVT Cobra R is the faster version. More HP, better suspension, among other mods...

Well considering the SVT Cobra makes about 410-415 HP Stock,

390 horsepower 4.6L supercharged V8. If it made more, they'd claim more.
I don't see Ford doing that - they've got nothing more performance-oriented than Mustang, and it's taken quite a beating recently for poor performance (keep in mind the Standard, Deluxe, and Premium base trims have a 3.8L V6 that puts out just 190-hp). I think Ford would want to claim all the horsepower they can, especially when that's about the only thing that might pull somebody away from something like an Acura CL or Infiniti G35.Originally posted by PunkRock
The last Camaro Z28s made 310 hp @ the wheels, when they were rated at 310@ the flywheel. GM claimed 310 at the flywheel to save their asses from Corvette owners.
It does make more, becuase it makes 360hp at the wheels which is too small of a loss when comparing it to the 390 "crank" hp it's listed at, which can only mean it makes hp in the neighborhood of 410+ hp, not only that i'm sure there is some industry standard out there, or some sort of margin they don't wish to cross in order to maintain a large buying market.Originally posted by M5Power

Actually, that's around 8% driveline loss. That's about right. Based on the 360 rwhp I think 390 hp at the crank is about right.Originally posted by Driftster

Why that much for an auto?? BTW can any of you give me info for a 727 torque-flight tranny?Originally posted by neon_duke
Friction, mostly, and lash in the gears. Just like any mechanical device, efficiency can't make 100%. A manual transmission car should be anywhere from 90%-95% efficient in the driveline; an automatic would tend to be around 90%, maybe dropping as low as 85%.

Yeah, but Chevy tried to go for speed over price with the Camaro and look what happened to it - Ford's doing the right thing by keeping prices very low for the base and GT Mustangs.Originally posted by DGB454
Well hopefully the SVT is a lot faster than the GT. Those things are dogs.
