I think the next GT should have the same engine as the GT90, but modernized. Maybe even paired to a KERS. V12 Quad-Turbo. [...] And build like 50,000 of them and sell them for $100K, because 'merica.

Yes, all Ford has to do is that. Simple, really.

End the hybrid hypercar competition by completely demolishing it, just like they did at Le Mans 50 years ago.

Unfortunately Lola is now bankrupt so they can't design the car for them this time.

However, I do look forward to any hot Mondeos we might be getting.

They won't need Lola; they've got this:

And a modernized road-going version of the GT40 I think looked the best would be awesome. Just look at those fender curves. Give it a paint option like this, just like the 918 has the Weissach Package.

For your sake, I hope you're trolling, so please stop the trolling.

Whaaat...??

Possible? Yes.
Feasible? Not really.

Merging SVT, FPV et al is almost certainly gearing towards a more uniformed approach to hot models of the mass market cars and while a new Ford supercar isn't out of the question, the stats you're after probably aren't what they're going to go for.

I would personally like to see Ford make a modern GT40 that makes use of the Shelby GT350's 5.2L Flat-plane V8. They could also make a cheaper model that uses the Coyote V8, that would be cool.

Only if it its absurdly light, like the original. 2500lbs with 500hp. Mmmmmm

Well of course, Ford wouldn't be able to compete with the C7 Corvette or the Ferrari 458 otherwise.

The Ford GT only had 550hp from a SC that did 200mph. Even if the C7 and new 4XX upped the ante, a lightwieght 500hp GT40 does sound delicious.

They could with the same power and weight. C7 Z06 weighs a not-insubstantial 3550lbs with 650hp. I would prefer 2500lbs and 500hp.
Oh yeah, I don't know what I was thinking. I think I need to reinform myself a bit again. Anyway yeah, I could understand why you would prefer that that. Too much power can become a hassle around the corners on a race track.

Yeah, it does sound nice now that I think about it. 500hp still sounds like a lot of power in general anyway.

Designed and built in England by an English company.

But it has a Ford badge, 'Merica

I think the GT40 and all it's derivatives are forever cursed by the inevitable argument between Americans and Brits about who actually gets credit for the GT40 and its wins. (It was us, you tea-drinking red coats)

Either way, automotive engineering has far surpassed aerodynamic bodies with powerful engines. Ford hasn't demonstrated that it has the chops to hang with the P1, 918, and LaFerrari.

I, along with most others, would call it American-British, like the AC Cobra.

The Mark IV, the car whose picture I posted, was NOT developed in any way by Lola. It was designed completely in-house by Ford and its subsidiary, Kar Kraft (yeah, horrible name). The more famous Mark I-III GT40's may have been trans-atlantic, but the Mark IV, which looked completely different than the others, was inarguably American. That's exactly why the new GT should look like it- yes, 'Merica.

If they're planning on actually offering more than just ridiculously high-performance vehicles, and continue to offer more basic and affordable performance options, I'm all for it. A wider dedication to sporting credentials, however, that'd be more appealing. I'd love to see them do something similar to what BMW has done with the M-Sport packaging on some of their models, offering a more credible suspension package for a nominal price, without adding extra power or gimmicky body pieces. More or less, I'd want a sportier but normal Fusion, Edge, or Explorer. We don't need another $40k+ sports car that not that many can afford.

Hasn't Audi been doing that a long time with the S models? Just now BMW and MB are catching up with the M-Sport and AMG Sport models respectively?

Yeah, its been a thing with the Germans for a while, but I was under the impression that the S-Line cars were just a body kit and wheels, not actual performance upgrades like the M-Sport and the new AMG Sport equipment.

Something like this from Ford would be unprecedented as far as I can recall, at least when it comes to American brands. If that marks a returned commitment to everyday performance options from GM and FCA, that'd be great as well.

The S-Line cars don't come with any performance parts, but at least in Europe Audi offers S-Line Sport package, which has special sport suspension.

I'm not sure about American market, but GM is already offering OPC line for Opels so I can see Ford doing it too for European market.

True the S-Line package for an A4 is nothing more than an aesthetic upgrade but what i'm talking about are the S4/5/6/7/8

Those are performance and aesthetic upgrades to their A counterparts. Maybe that's not the same thing as what BMW and MB are doing. I've always seen the S cars as a slightly more exciting version of their siblings before you get to the RS cars. Similar to a BMW with M-Sport and the M models, again with MB - the AMG sport and AMG models.

The M-Sport and AMD-Sport packages are a lot closer to the Audi S-Line packages than they are the Audi S models. BMW and Mercedes don't have a direct equivalent to the S cars for every model they have.

So I was wrong. Thanks for clarifying. 👍

By name, it has to be an RS2000 Escort.

Cosworths are Cosworths. Very few people, even car people, bother to remember Sierra RS Cosworth or Escort RS Cosworth. Sierra RS500 is the exception.

Incidentally, what does this merge of Ford tuning mean for Cosworth? Although it was always a third party with excellent links, little motorsport activity for Ford Europe since 2000 has seen the Cosworth name quietly dropped by Ford over the years.

Which would be great here in the US, honestly. If Ford offered a more buttoned down Fusion, or hell, maybe even the three-pot Fiesta with a chassis setup similar to the ST. That'd be great. Let us poor people be able to get sporty cars for cheap.
