I've seen a bunch on dealer lots but yet to see one on the road.

Seems like a useful vehicle for small businesses. Can't help but wonder if Ford brought it over here just to get it classified by the EPA as a truck, and boost up their CAFE rating.

I've seen quite a few on the road.

And how much would a diesel 5 speed or 5 speed auto improve the fleet avg for Ford?

the petrol 4 speed auto gets 22mpg. I reckon a diesel with 5 speeds would get 30. Add a hybrid option to that, and we're nearing 35.
Thats a huge, huge boost.

Maybe they are using up old stock of 2.0's and 4 speeds.

Stick the new 2.3 in there from the Escape along with the 6 speed auto, 30mpg should be easy. 35-36mpg if the hybrid stuff will fit.

Ford couldn't bring over the Transit diesel for emmissions reasons, as is the case for alot of European diesels. Creating a US spec diesel would be costly.

the guy above me has a good point. you know how stiff the emissions requirements are over here. besides, you KNOW some fool at ford is gonna stuff an old taurus 3 liter in there for a while.

I'd like to see the Diesel Tuners in this country get their hands on a Diesel Connect...

Emissions reasons, or they just didn't want to bother/ be the leader and take the initiative.

If they can make it pass Euro V regs, how much more they need to make it pass EPA regs? Theres huge demand for diesels in Europe and everytime the regs are updated the manufacturers whine and complain but yet they manage to make thier motors pass.

IMO its a case of them thinking the American public is not ready for diesels. Yet VW, BMW and Mercedes are selling every one they bring here.
Americans aren't ready for an under developed, under engineered piece of excrement like the last time Detroit foisted their manure on the market. That's what they are scared off.

well, we don't know what we're doing with diesel engines...outside of utility use. fuel has always been the cheapest here in the US, so there wasn't much incentive to alternates until now.

someone will eventually figure out the Transit is simply a utility body Focus, and there will be a hatedom popping up because it will be seen as a faker.

The problem with Euro V and US 2010 (and 2012) is likely the type of pollution being tracked rather than the amount. It's the same way with us gasoline car emmissions (Oxides of Nitrogen) and Euro laws (Carbon-focused)
