This is a bit controversial, but Jalopnik and Edmunds (apparently) have chosen to fight it out. People have been critical of the current Taurus as a bit bland, boring, insert other *sigh* superlative here... But this? This changes everything!!!

Holy crap!

European-influenced looks, EcoBoost power, its just about as good as good can get... I'll vote for Ford with this one, I'm interested to see how it stacks up against the G8/etc.

[Dr. Weird]I LIKE IT![/Dr. Weird]

Looks stunning. 👍👍

WILL WE BE ABLE TO SAY "WOW" WHEN WE SEE IT GO!?

Not bad! It definitely has that clean European flair to it. I still wouldn't buy it. I'd have to see what else the EcoBoost was to come in before I put money down on this, if I was going to buy a Ford.

RWD?

-> Epic? Whats epic about a Ford that looks more like a bloated Hyundai Azera/Sonata? :indiff:

-> There is nothing more epic from Ford other than the Aussie-spec Falcon, otherwise all others are not worth my attention at all. :yuck:

Wow! Goodbye Red, White, and Bold, Hel-lo Kinetic!!!

and yes, I hope it GOES!!!!!

Wow, that just looks EPIC. I'm guessing on AWD and FWD. The front looks like a cross between gillette...errr I mean bold US and kinetic Euro design.

Ford moar deetailz pleeze!

I'd say its epic because its replacing this piece of so-so ishness:

Strong, modern styling with a really good engineering package can make this the car the Taurus should have been all along. You know, back when the marque meant something. Back when it was the top-selling car in North America.

Sure, I'm doing a bit of flag-waving, but come on, this is what Ford (and American automakers in general) needs. I want this to be Ford's 300C, their Camaro, etc. They need another big hit, and based on looks alone, I think it could take the cake. The design is simple, yet attractive, and with a turbocharged 3.5L V6 under the hood (with AWD please), it only makes things better.

I think the grille gives off the Hyundai vibe, the top edge's chrome being the main reason. However, taking the entire facia in... the best part of the new car is it confirms Fords over here will start looking like Fords over there, very shortly. And that makes me very excited at the prospects of more Euro Fords.

Hells yes 👍

My guess is that it wont be much of a G8 contender. I highly doubt that this will be RWD. There will most likely be a model with AWD and if that gets the EcoBoost V6 then it could maybe be in the realm of the G8 GT, but not the GXP. I can see Ford keeping power below that of the MKS as well; maybe 320-330hp. But with the right transmission it could keep pace with a G8 GT, I suppose. The 320-330 model could easily be an SHO model and probably be the top of the line and I highly doubt it would get a boost to the EB's limit of 400+. I think if they want a real G8 contender, they should bring the Falcon over (doesn't everybody?) The Taurus here here kinda resembles the Falcon, though. (Maybe it's the underpinnings too? LAWL.) (Looks a lot more like a Mondeo, really.)

or if I'm completely wrong, and this is RWD, maybe we will see a Taurus GT with the EB V6 and an SHO with the 5.0 V8?

Lincoln MKS vs. CTS
Taurus GT/SHO vs. G8 GT/GXP...unlikely.

No, it likely won't be RWD. My guess is that it will be a haldex AWD system, essentially running what the S80 has underneath it. It'll compete on price and performance, but in terms of badassness, it would be like taking a bunch of vicodin and going hunting with Dick Cheney... Either way, someone is going to get shot, just not in the way intended.

It, at least to me, signifies that someone at Ford realized that Americans want a nice, affordable alternative to what the Japanese and Germans (and Koreans) are offering... Something that we can be proud of. It looks good, will likely drive quite well, and if we're lucky it will be fuel-efficent.

I may be too hopeful, but alas, thats all we can have in Michigan these days...

I'm glad I am not the only one who had to scroll back up to the thread title to make sure it said Ford rather than Hyundai.

The front does look alot like the Hyundai Azera (at least the grille and headlights)

Whereas the body looks alot like the Audi A4

I liked the old Five Hundred. It was handsome and stately. The current Taurus just doesn't do it for me, it's trying too hard to be something it's not. It's trying to be a new hip car, but failing. I like this one, it could actually be hip.

-> Hmm, yup, its epic...epic fail. :indiff:

-> Unless if they don't adapt the excellent kinetic design theme or import all those Euro-Aussie Fords to the Stateside, might as well quit selling everyday cars and be like GMC and/or Pontiac. But I still have mad respect for their sports cars (Mustang series) and trucks (F-series), so those are fine. :indiff:

+1 The old Five Hundred's grille made it discret and respectable. I love that car, even though it was slow. I'm looking forward to the new one. Should be a riot.

How about SES? GT really only seems suited for the Mustang (and the Escort even though it isn't built anymore).

Yah, for the top of the performance line version. He was talking about the performance version just below SHO (like Pontiacs GT and GXP).
