the front end looks way more like a mondeo than anything else mentioned.

I think thats what surprised me more than anything... They've managed to find a happy meeting point (it seems) between Red White and Bold and the Kinetic design themes...

I personally believe it has a certain "Subaru-ish-ness" to it.

You can see some of the design cues from their recent concepts in this design actually. I dont think it looks too bad at all. As long as Ford keeps true to the design I see there, Im all for it.

RWD SHO??????? DO IT!

Yeah, that's the way the Taurus should have been a long, long time ago. Back to the head of the class!

I wouldn't be surprised if this sold pretty well. Ford keeps putting themselves in a better position to survive the recession.

Based on the interior alone, I wouldn't buy it. It just looks like something you'd sit on and aren't involved with compared to a car which might have a more homely feeling interior.

Looks to me like it has got some serious interior issues at the moment, I hope the cables and duct tape are hidden on the final production version.

Sounds about right. Well, sounds about like how I feel about the current model.

Whats up with the Sony branding? Some new partnership I was unaware of?

Is that an auto transmission lever, or is that a medieval weapon?

I’m deathly afraid that it’s going to look too “heavy” for the Kinetic (post-Kinetic?) design language to work… the C-pillar gives me reason to believe it might be headed in that direction (you can tell an awful lot about a car’s design and aspirations by the shape formed between the C-pillar and the rearmost side windows).

Probably EUCD, actually (if we are lucky). I doubt it would be on the same one as the current car (the D3 chassis) like the new Mazda 6 and next Ford Fusion are (CD3 chassis), as the Taurus chassis is nearly 10 years old. So, yeah, we might not even need the Mondeo if Ford does this right.

Euro-spec Fords have had Sony stereos available as an option for a while now, must be a first for the US.

I'd also like to voice my concern about the design. While it's decent and very safe, there is nothing epic about it.

I'm sure the new Taurus will be a great car. But no matter how good it looks, I'd prefer not to follow behind the Hyundai design by a few years.

I think its on a highly modified version of the current S80-based D3 chassis, but I may be wrong. Give or take, probably whats under the Lincoln MKS.

Looks like amounting location for a subwoofer.

I think it's going to have really boring tail lights. Besides that I like it. And they made the bottom edge black, as they did on the Mustang, which means that someone at Ford has learned how to make a lard boat look a little smaller, and I love that.

As a6m5 stated how on earth is this EPIC? Its nearly identical to the Hyundai Sonata with a bit of Mondeo thrown in. Its a decient effort at best and nearly a year out of date (considering the Mondeo was launched in 07).

Ford here in the UK have been using Sony headunits and speakers since the launch of the C-Max in 03.

The only think EPIC is if it as the ecoboost 3.5l engine in there with AWD. Ford was going to use this engine, but they won't beause of the standing there in.

The upper part of the lights is fake, though. With that taken into account, this Taurus is a dead-ringer for the Azera.

These days it's nearly impossible to make a new car not look like something else while still being somewhat appeling.

Camry looks like a 1st gen Atenza/Mazda6. US 2nd gen Mazda6 looks like an older Lexus ES from the front.

Etc etc etc...

Nope. I see a Camry and a 6.

Every family sedan ever made is pretty much exactly the same. All their front ends are a 6-slot design--a main grille flanked by a headlight on either side, and each of those three slots has another grille directly below it, making for 6 rectangles. They all have four doors with an arching roofline to cover everybody's head. And they all have taillights on either side of the rear end with a license plate mount in the middle. There's only so many ways to make a car look cool without making it look retarded. Nissan is bordering on the retarded end right now, and the French companies have been doing retarded for ages.

They're all the same, and this horse died right when the second ever family sedan was designed. Which of course looked just like the first one.

I'm loving that new Taurus. Definately going to be a great car all around.

I'm seeing a bit more Mondeo-like style with those renders, but in the size class that the car will compete in (Chevrolet Impala, Chrysler 300, Toyota Avalon, etc)... Its pretty unique. I suppose I can see some Hyundai-like qualities to the front, but the rest of the car is pretty straightforward as a clean design. Its very European, in a more Volvo-like way than most other American cars. A change I can get used to...

That’s actually a pretty recent phenomenon. Go back ten years and you don’t see that very much, go back 20–30 years and you don’t really see it at all.

This is innovation? Looks like a lump. They changed from the old bland styling and "finally" adapted a new bland styling.
