Does your car have more than 100,000 miles?
Or is it over 10 years old?
More body dents than horsepower?
And despite all that, you care for it?

Then join the Beater Club!

Imports, exports, deports...it doesn't matter, The Beater Club is for you! This is also the thread for those of you sick of [Insert Favorite Marque] Fan Club threads on GTP.

OK, I'll post up images of my 8 year old, 160,000+ mile VW tonight. Insurance $80 a month, and It's paid for. 31-32 MPG. Top speed feels to be about 85mpg. I'd be insane to go over that. Current character flaw is a bad left hook due to alignment. Also 3 of 4 shocks are blown, and it's 700 miles over due for an oil change.

here is a better looking version of my redneck mobile

Ok, here is the current state of the car -
Automatic shift cover is broken to pieces, duct tapes is holding it together. . .
The covering for access to the fuse panel and all wires under the steering column is removed. Enough wires are exposed to shock the crap out of me currently.
In the rear of the car is a set of Craftsman Wrenchs and rachets, A flash light, 5 quarts of Oil, 2 bottles of brake fluid, two gallon Coolant bottles, a can of Simple Black (I believe - engine degreaser), A star wrench set. . . In the rear seat sits a 4 ton hydroalic(sp.) jack, Air Pressurized tools (need a portable compressor), Clothes to change into if problem occurs, A funnel, and a installment of Chevy Power magazines. . . The rest of the front has no stereo with all the wires hanging out and a cracked dashpad. Plus the spare tire on the rear of the car right now because I need a new Valve for the rear right tire. . . makes it easy to do burnouts :D
The Passenger window either goes down 1/4 the way and stops, or falls down into the door. . . But the WeatherStripping is in Superb shape :D for both the T-tops and windows.
I'll be checking my mileage later tonight :D

Heh, if anybody doesn't know we have two beaters by now, there's no reason. Here they are:
sigpic.jpg

Both have around 80,000 on the clock, both need a body panel or two repainted. The one with stripes has been paid off since 1998 and the one without I paid $4800 cash for in 1999. Both will last at least another 2 years without major input.

 $80US/month for insurance...DAMN...
thanks to my bro's 3 tickets in one month and my mom's 2 accidents in which claims were made (other person's fault) and incompetence on the part of our broker (sent invalid info to company), we pay about $1200/month for just liability coverage on 2 cars. My bro/dad on the 97 civic, my mom & me on the starting to rust 93 accord.

My beater...well, my mom's beater:
93 accord - the standard blue that honda seemed to be obsessed with at the time
-radio works about 5% of the time, eats every tape you put near it
-electronic antenna isn't working
-front passenger door won't open with the key anymore
-front right window doesn't always raise up completely
-front right door is bent slightly around the window so there is a small crack open at the top - sucks to go into the car wash :irked:. That happened when the guy at the shop forgot to pump the brakes after changing the fluid. He severely damaged 3 cars and nearly destroyed the front right side of the car - I think that even affected our insurance somehow (damn canadian companies rip you off in any way imaginable - even scratched paint  ). oh, and because of that tiny crack, it's deafeningly loud when driving at highway speeds (100km/h)
-front left wiper's bolt keeps coming loose
-very loud grinding noise only between 1500 and 2500 rpms (I *think* it's loose exhaust pipes...) no matter which gear it gets to - except neutral. It always happens, and it always ends around the time you pass 2500 rpm
-just a 2weeks ago, there was a hole in the exhaust that made it sound like a damn pos ricer
-car veers slightly to the right - probably alignment

Oh, I forgot
It seems that all 93 accords I've seen have rust accumulating and paint peeling around the edges of the rear fender.

I've gone one serious beater.

`93 Accord Sedan (manual transmission!) EX
187,000 Miles

Front left fender is so smashed that the driver's door doesn't open 100%. I need to bend it back out (:

loudmusic - check the back fenders - tell me if there's rust accumulating. I want to prove my theory that every 93 accord that hasn't been repainted has that problem.

Heh, heh, mine has more chips and vandal scrapes than my 160 hp 'Teg. I got the ugliest front bumper this side of the C6 Corvette. And with the blown piston rings, my top speed went from 143 mph to 80 mph. And the chassis has been shot before I bought the car.

Man, it hard to say this but I have sell my DB2 now.

The only place the car is rusting is where I was hit. Other than that it's actually in quite good shape.

Ha, I can now be in both the Exotics Club and the Beater Club.

Went to a lot and put a nice down payment on a '99 Grand Prix.

Paying for this one all on my own too. (Which was one of my new years resolutions)

I needed it for a winter beater since I sold the truck this summer.

It may not be a beater in the way that it is rusty and falling apart, but it sure will be a huge step down for me.

No.

They are covered for the winter.

Can't drive anything nice around here because of all the road salt.

My father would kill me if I took out anything nice right now.

Winter is the hardest thing ever on any vehicle.

My Grand Cherokee is getting to be a beater.

1998
73000 miles
bad hub hums deafeningly at 40, and 65 mph
tailgate hatch won't open without a fight
needs new brakes, which I will put off unitl it'll cost me a fortune
pitted windscreen

I guess that's about it.

My beater: 1990 Honda Civic Lx.
Miles: 169,847
Tranny: Auto.
Rust: Not much.

Think about this equation...

1.6 liter engine + Auto Transmission + Steep hill= Massive loss of speed.

Basic side view.

060104-Civic1.jpg

Rear view. I think Im gonna get Type-R badges add 10 Hp a piece!

Interior shot. /\/\@d Tyt3 A|_|70 7r@nny y0!!111

And yes, I do hate those seatbelts.

060104-Civic3.jpg

aah, you made me remember my Fairmont wagon T-T
that was one cool daily car to go with. good, decent power, a spot or two of rust in the lower panels, bad wood imitation (so bad we took it off), seats with cigarette marks, and a rear gate wich had to be fully rebuilt so it would open. it eas black so any imperfection on the bodywork could be seen. still, it was a great car. I want it back :(

Cano

someday... project Fearmont will be a reality :D

My beater: 1995 Lexus GS300 Touring Edition
Mileage: 80,XXX

It's in perfect condition, but it sucks - hard. The main reason it sucks so hard is because of the big pimpin' factory split three spoke wheels it has.

its not really a beater, but it has tons of miles and still strong as fekk.

Ride: Red '91 Infiniti G20
Miles: 102,xxx
Transmission: 5 speed
Dings/Dents: a few here and there but overall like 3-4
Interior: some torn leather on driver seat
Known Defects: auto antenna unplugged cuz when the antenna retracts the fatest rod gets stuck. the trunk pressure shocks suck in- so it feels like your lifting 60 pounds when pulling the trunk up
Major Defects: broken right cv-boot & maybe needs realignment +new front tires? (hyrdoplain @ 85mph)
other than that the sr20de powered g20 is ****en awesome

1985 MB 190E 2.3.
230k Mi.
Trim screwed on with wood screws (in certain places)
Broken taillight lens
Broken headlight surround
Dents galore

Sounds like a beater to me....

But, still, it may lack power, but it has the chassis of a DTM car, and it corners really well.

My beater is a '01 Chevrolet Tahoe, with 35,000 miles. I drive it if there's threat of snow (salt), or rain if I've just washed my car.

Of the 4 cars at my hoose, 3 are certified beaters.
in age order.
1989 Ford Probe Automatic. 180,000 miles by the time I get home tonite,
1992 Ford Escort GT. 196,000-currently a garage queen waiting for an exhaust leak to be fixed, disc brake pads all the way 'round, and 2 new 195/50 R15 tires.
1992 Plymouth Voyager with 160,000 on it. Just rebuilt the engine. I'm hoping for another 50-75,000 out of it.
That covers me and the boys.
Now if I can just get htem to check the oil regularly in the Voyager and the Probe...
My wife drives a 2001 Chevy Venture (extended) Van that just passed 50,000 miles

My Beater 1984 Honda Prelude, Manual, Been in 5 accidents so the front is pretty messed up, has 238k miles, but still gets 29mpg.

My '93 Corolla just celebrated 125,000 miles, so I thought this thread was in order. Not to mention, it's got the waekest engine of all the Corollas that year, and a 3-speed auto tranny. The axles are leaking grease, and the brakes need work, but other than that, it's solid transportation.

Of course, the wind noise at 60mph is quite loud, both speakers are blown (sadly, there's only two), and the cassette deck LCD display is unreadable. (But now I'm starting to sound like my customers.)
