Which way?

Fork in right hand is common amongst lefties. Though I'm a lefty myself and have it the proper way round.
What about if your ambidexstrous? I tend to eat more with the fork in my right hand than my left though sometimes I just pick the knife and fork up and go regardless of which ends up in which hand. My dad is left handed he has the fork in his left hand. I'm pretty ambidexstrous (ie just as crap with both hands at almost everything, almost).

What's sexual orientation got to do with it?

:D

One thing I do have problems with is fork'n'spoon, like when eating spaghetti (proper way: spoon to scoop the spaghetti, twirl the fork in the spoon and then eat from the fork). Even with two sporks I struggle.

I just use the fork to do both jobs, but if I have to I use the knife in the right. Or if it's smaller, I can just lift the whole thing with the fork.

I never got the hang of eating spaghetti like that; I just twirl it on my fork and hope it goes into my mouth gracefully.

I never use a spoon for spaghetti. Spoons should be for liquidish foods (soups, tacos/nachos [whatever you want to call it], ice cream etc), IMO.

[Umpire vocie]Striiiikeee one!!![/umpire voice]

You grab the spaghetti with the fork and place it on top of the spoon, then you proceed to twirl the fork until the spaghetti has neatly tangled around it.

Needless to say that I rarely do it when I'm really hungry. I eat all my pasta like

Ciao!

You sometimes eat like an obese fictional cat who lives with a retarded dog and a sexually frustrated man called Jon?

Awesome.

I'm right handed.

I hold my fork in my right hand, unless I need to cut something. Then, it's the fork in my left hand, knife in my right.

We had some American students staying with us recently, and I was surprised to see the lengths that they would go to avoid using both the knife and fork. Aside from cutting steak, the knives were often retired to the table in favour of the fork "shovel" method. Common cultural eating practice?

I do see a lot of that around here.

Yeah – we hate holding knives when it’s not strictly necessary. On the other hand, if I’m eating a meal that requires a fork and a spoon, I like to hold them both at the same time (using the fork to push things into the spoon) – I think that’s mostly an Asian thing though.

If my food ever requires a shift in position I tend to just push it with the spoon. Rarely do I help it into the spoon via the fork, unless my attempts at scooping with the spoon become impossibly difficult. Then I use the fork.

Forks and Knives are overrated anyway. Chopsticks are where it’s at. I never got the hang of them when I was younger, but they are far and away the best way to eat food… as long it it’s small enough. :dunce:

Fork right, knife left. Does this mean that I'm a lefty, no, I'm right handed. You make more movements with your right hand if I'm eating (if right handed) so, fork right, knifr left.

No man, you use a twirly straw for soup. Don’t you know anything?

Fork in left, knife in right. We tend to eat meals that require cutting before shovelling into our mouths. I just use a fork in my right hand with spagetti and the kids take bets on how many mouthfuls I take before I spill it down the front of me.

Ahhh - that's where you are wrong. My chop sticks are hollow so can be used like a straw. Straws are the only elegant way to enjoy soup. ;)

If i'm eating something that doesn't require a knife, i'll use my fork in my right hand.
