Hey everyone, just thought id introduce myself to these forums :) and i have a question.

Ive been into actual drifting for about five years now, and i stumbled across this forum about drifting in GT3. And ive messed around with drifting on GT3 but never succeeded at it, until recently where i came across this forum and learned how to actually drift on GT3. ANYWAYS, my question. Ive noticed on the videos it looks like quite a bit of people use a steering wheel instead of the controller so my question is, is it easier with the steering wheel or is it equal?

Sorry if i posted this in the wrong place  lol

Welcome to GTP Professir, glad to make your acquaintance.

It really differs from person to person, although I feel very comfortable in a real car with a steering wheel, it doesn't feel so natural with one in the game so I use the dualshock 2 to drift. Someone else may have an oposite feeling. (of course my no-name wheel just plain sucks and just doesn't cut it)

It also could depend on the style of drifting, I find that the Dualshock teaches a less need of countersteer, not being able to really keep an angle of the front tires going in the right direction teaches you to turn with the accelerator instead of the front tires.

Its hard with the wheel trust me if its ur first time and if u do try it with tires like sims youll be fishtailing or spin out on the first turn or maybe in the straights lolz. But i like the wheel better because counter-steering looks tite in replays and hard to master with different tires. If ur going to try the wheel just try grip racing first so that u get use to the wheel and gas/brakes and turning then try drifting.

the old wheel is like $80 now and the pro wheel $150, u can buy 1 of them if u want and those are one of the best wheels.im saving for the pro and i got 100 bucks already.$50 more to go!!!!!

I've never used a wheel, I want to but I have no money for that nonsense lol

I keep it real with Dualshock styles lol

If you're pretty good with the DS2, then you're going to love playing GT3 with the wheel, it makes so much difference, and I had more fun drifting with the wheel than the DS2.

I've found the big advantage with the wheel really isn't the wheel. It's the pedals. You have such better control over the gas a brake that drifting just becomes more enjoyable. At least that's how it is for me.

yes it does works better with pedals when dealing with throttle control, but how can you say no to the steering wheel, it also allows for some real smooth counter steering movements during a drift, and thats the cool part. :)

The wheel itself is cool. Don't get me wrong. The feedback from the wheel greatly outweighs the feedback of the DS2. But the advantage to having a wheel is not in the wheel. I was able to do the smooth countersteering with the DS. I'm one of the few people that I know of that didn't use the analog like a digital on most games. My challenge was always throttle control. and I just couldn't do it with the right stick of the DS(despite Silivia drifters excellent advise :ouch: ) So I borrowed a friends wheel and whoola! I can suddenly hold a drift for mor then 1.5 seconds. Great stuff.

I have always used the Dual Shock controller for drift/grip..... With practice, one can emmulate the control of a wheel, using only the 2 analog sticks.....

If you will look at my replays,(more coming very soon), you will notice that it apears I am using a wheel... In reality, I am just using the analog stick to precisely control the movement of the wheels.....

It also could depend on the style of drifting, I find that the Dualshock teaches a less need of countersteer, not being able to really keep an angle of the front tires going in the right direction teaches you to turn with the accelerator instead of the front tires.

In a RWD vehicle, countersteer is necessary to have full control of the vehicle in a drift.... This does not mean that it isn't possible, to drift with very minimal countersteer, but it means you either have little angle, or less control.... If your front wheels are smoking in a drift (in a RWD car) it just means they have a lessened grip coeficient, which in turn means you have less control.... This of course does not apply to AWD/4WD vehicles, that use the power of the front wheels to act as a psuedo countersteer.....

However, as soon as I can afford the DFP (Driving Force Pro), I will lay the money down, and build a base to set it up..... I love my Dual Shock, but I crave the realism that the DFP can provide.....

one more question. On that gt pro wheel or whatever its called, how is the 900 degree feel. I was wondering for a while, it seem slike it would really make the game more enjoyable, and with the pedals, the drifting would be easier for me at least because i rely on the gas and brake more than steering in drifts. Im deciding wether i should buy it or not. :indiff:
