For the first time since 202019, Formula 1 heads to Melbourne for the opening round of the season. The Albert Park circuit, reprofiled in 2022, has produced plenty of memorable moments and chaotic season openers since it joined the calendar in 1996 at an event which rightfully feels like a festival for Australian Motorsport. Four DRS zones, close walls and high-speed sections make this a real challenge, especially on a grid with many rookies, drivers all at new teams and a pecking order nobody really knows. Who will come out on top at the AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX!

The early weather forecast is looking fun - a roasting 37C on Saturday and then a chance of some showers towards the end of the race on Sunday.

Red Bull and Max doing some major sandbagging, I expect them to be upfront as usual. It does seem like McLaren may have actually brought a competitive car to begin the season. Go Oscar!

I'm quite excited for this one !
For the first time ever I'll be supporting Red Bull (well just Lawson really) but still words I never thought I'd ever say.
I have no idea what'll happen, but if I get McLaren and Lawson on the podium it would be a dream start for my favorites.

After missing out on tickets last year, I will be in attendance this time round so I'm very excited. I just hope that there isn't any torrential rain but knowing Melbourne at this time of year, we could get anything and everything in one day. If Piastri wins, it will bring the house down. However I will be supporting Atlassian Williams Racing and Carlos Sainz because Atlassian is an Australian IT firm and Carlos Sainz is my favourite driver, mainly due to his maturity and strong will. We know what he's capable of and if Williams can give him a half decent car, he will be in the points more often then not. I will also keep a keen eye on Liam Lawson as he's a New Zealander who I believe has the talent and the mental capacity to make a serious impact. It's going to be a spicy season.

I‘m definitely excited for the race, especially because it‘s the first time we see the new cars in action. I‘m assuming McLaren and Red Bull will both have strong cars from the start of the season this time.

I‘m also looking forward to seeing how Hamilton‘s first race for Ferrari will go!

If anyone else wants to enter the 2025 GTPlanet Fantasy F1 game, with no prizes and a middling amount of tactics and mirth, please do:

I'm know I'm dreaming a bit to have Lawson on the podium straight away but it's led me to a question (I'm sure someone in here will know) ... Has there ever been a time where there's been an Aussie and Kiwi on the F1 podium at the same time ?

Figure it maybe was a possibility in the 60's or 70's or something but not too sure as its a bit before my time.

There were multiple races throughout the 1960’s where Jack Brabham shared the podium with Bruce McLaren and Denny Hulme. I think the final time was at the 1970 South African Grand Prix.

Cheers, yeah figured it had to have happened back in the days. Long time between drinks for the Kiwi's ! If Liam can get on the podium at least once this year I'll be a happy man !!

We are likely to have rain on Sunday and in wet conditions I don't give much chance to Piastri for winning the race. For wet race, I think it will be either Max or a Ferrari driver who will win the win. In dry conditions, both McLaren drivers have a very good chance of winning their race as they are likely to have the fastest car on track.

I think my folks are going to miss this by just a day or two, seeing how they'll be in Melbourne around the same time!

Going to be interesting to see how everyone gets on this weekend. Hopefully Ferrari can challenge McLaren at this circuit, it would be awesome if Lewis can start strong.

Does the F1TV feed have color oversaturation like the Sky feed on ESPN?
I came here to see if anyone else had anything to say about it. I feel like I’m on an acid trip. It wasn’t like this for the Supercars and Carrera Cup races yesterday.

Mercedes look like they finally got to grips with the regulations and have great race pace at the expense of qualifying. However, races are won on Sundays....

RB look to be struggling with an exceptionally tricky car; we all know they're going to be throwing hours and hours at the sim to improve, but there looks something distinctly ingrained which might be too much to overcome. Still, it is only the first race of season and anything can happen.

Mercedes also looked to be running less wing this morning vs Mclaren and Ferrari, not sure how much effect it will have had on long or short runs but I expect we'll see other teams play around a little in FP3 before locking in for qualifying, with the rain forecast, where will the setup sacrifices be made.

The worst of the rain is currently forecast for about an hour before the race on Sunday. I really hope we don't get another delayed or dumb safety car start.

At first glance, the teams look to be very close especially the top 4 with a couple of dark horses thrown in. If it stays like that throughout the whole season, this could be an awesome season to watch. I'm hopeful but will keep my expectations low and not get too excited.

I'd be OK with a delayed start, 4am is just a tad too early, if they could push it to 6am then I'd be good with that.
