Well that wasn't the Summer Break, but it felt like it! 3 weeks since the brilliant British Grand Prix and the main bombshell was the firing of long-term Red Bull boss Christian Horner after leading the team successfully for over 20 years. How can the fastest team of the Ground Effect era fight back with the new management structure as they head into the second half of the season? McLaren are the class of the field, but the two drivers are still very close. Two races this weekend, as Spa sees the return of the exciting* Sprint Format. Who will be victorious and at what point will the inevitable rain shower hit the longest circuit on the calendar? We will find out at the BELGIAN GRAND PRIX!

45% chance of rain has me a bit worried for Sunday.

Predicting a McLaren incident at either the race or the sprint.

Bring it.

Let the rain come and make things interesting like it did at Silverstone in the previous race :)

Modern F1 only works with light to medium rain and only when the rain sets in during the race.

Standing water usually leads to hour long delays or worse, race cancellations.

Given that this is a sprint weekend (dumb decision to have one here imo) they have a lot less wiggle room timing wise to shift stuff around and react to weather.

If the rain follows the Silverstone dramaturgy than by all means bring it on.

Looks like a repeat of Silverstone - high downforce McLarens vs straight line speed Verstappen.

This is certainly one of the trophies of all time.

It looks like something that'd be installed next to the grandest statue of Leopold II in Brussels.

Antonelli with an early spin into the gravel. Cost his teammate some time as he came across the cloud of dust.

Piastri on top after first runs. 1/4 of a second clear of Verstappen and Norris. Russell should be around those 2 with a clear lap. Alonso best of the rest, looks like the Aston upgrades have made a bit of a difference.

Hamilton out in SQ1, spun at the bus stop.:guilty:

You can't park there sir (Lewis).

Albon, Hulkenberg, Colapinto and Antonelli also out.

Verstappen and Leclerc really challenging the McLarens today.

Russell out in SQ2! Norris was in the danger zone but got his lap in. Piastri sneaks through in 10th. Squeeky bum time there for McLaren.

Both RBs, both Astons out as well. A bit of a mad session.

Piastri by miles, half a second clear of Verstappen & Norris.
With a clean turn 1 Max should lead by the end of the Kemmel straight though.

That was a god-tier lap from Piastri

Edit: new track record as well
6 tenths faster than Lando who didn't seem to make an error. I know the lap length exacerbates things but that's still quite a gap.
Oscar is angry after Silverstone and will make everyone suffer (or as angry as someone that laidback can ever be).

I suspect that the next couple of rounds will show us just how hard Piastri is willing to fight for this year's championship.

Nooooo. Gasly’s car with an issue, back in the garage. Even if they fix it he’ll likely have to start from the pitlane for the sprint.

Forgot it was a Sprint weekend.Hope the run to T1 is clean.

edit: That was a nice pass from Max. Wow.

Gasly is actually on track now, but 2 laps behind.

Guess he's using it as an extra practice session ahead of qualy later today

Well even for a sprint that was a snoozefest.

Hope for rain, excessive tyre wear, anything tomorrow to liven it up.

Flawless Sprint by Max. I thought Oscar would've found a way past. Good on Lando for reclaiming P3. Rain for tomorrow, please.

Unless there's a huge pace difference from certain teams/driver, tomorrow will be a Drs train fest. Ferrari's pace is horrendous compared to Max and the McLarens. 15 laps and down over 8 seconds.

The forecast says rain for tomorrow. Hopefully it's mixed conditions because I don't see a full wet race being any better.
