I do wonder how many Blue flags Bortoletto went past there.. I'm not entire sure his 8th place will be safe tbf?
I don't think there were that many actually. Lando caught them very quickly, and he moved pretty fast after Lando got close enough.

Maybe for Piastri after that. But then Fernando would probably get the same.

I was thinking, Piastri was 1.3s behind Lando from before the start of the last lap until after t6 where he fell back to around 2s

So clearly with two other cars inbetween, Bortoletto has almost definitely gone past 3 of them - Alonso prob not because they wouldn't have been shown to him directly?

After this race, I think it's safe to say that Max is barely holding on hope for the WDC which I can't see him defend this year. McLaren has the WCC on lock. Will be interesting to see the see-saw between Mercedes and Ferrari for the battle for P2 although I think Mercedes might have the edge. When their cars work, they actually fight for wins. On the other hand for Ferrari, when their cars do work, they are barely fighting for podium. Guess time will tell.

And speaking of Mercedes

Red Bull seem to be developing their car late into this season so will be good for Yuki if they can fix their car, will be interesting to see if McLaren have much more further developments than what they brought this race going forwards. Good to see Lando have a strong weekend, hopefully car is legal still after that flat out race.

Get the feeling from Ferrari, if they pull off what they want to do with next upgrades, they could give McLaren a harder time in the races. It was impressive this race they finished this close considering they keep on having to hold back ultimate pace due to some fundamental issue with car since the beginning of the season. Next race will give a good indication who will finish ahead as they were much further back to Mercedes last year so if they can finish ahead there, then I think they will have an easy time to beat them in WCC unless Mercedes have a big upgrade planned.

Piastri was run off the track by Colapinto on lap 55 while the rookie was battling with Yuki Tsunoda, and the Argentine was handed a five-second penalty for the incident.

Two laps later, the championship leader was blocked by Gasly into Turn 1, adding insult to injury as he attempted to catch Norris.

In a rare moment of frustration for the 24-year-old, he said over team radio: “Alpine still manages to find a way to **** me over all these years later.”

In an alternate universe he's the one getting blue flagged and blocking the leader. A lucky escape, but those pink tractors are always going to be lurking, ready to screw him over, especially with morons like Franco at the wheel.

I thought it was quite disrespectful to say but probably understandable in the heat of the moment. He should be grateful that Méganes were enslaved to help fund his racing career, I wonder if he will apologise for it. I suppose he is correct in a way, a Mégane also fed and watered Lando and taught him how to drive who is now his main rival that can beat him.

Not a good idea to burn bridges, Alpine could be front runners next year. McLaren's biggest challenge will be to keep hold of their people as I think more than ever, their staff will probably be offered huge sums of money so rivals can find out their secrets on how they are so strong with tyre management. It was impressive they could go full tilt and still have tyres hold on lap after lap.

I would not take it so seriously, he's just having a bit of vent and letting off steam there's not reason to think bridges are involved. If Alpine get resource to make the fastest car next year, they will also want to get the best driver possible in the car and on current form there's not many they would chose over Piastri based on consistent performance.

Super impressive. Lots of push laps and close racing - This is great for F1 and there should be more of it.
( I think the regulations and the tyre development should be adjusted to make the tyres way more durable for all teams to be able to push harder on tyres... )

So much driver coaching messages -
"Try to apex turn 6 to make it harder for the other car",
"he is faster in high speed",
"I need pace please help" - I laughed out loud at that last one.
- not sure so good for F1... I thought they were meant to be the best drivers?

He would never join Alpine.

I've criticised Lando's racecraft in the past but he really outmanouvered Oscar in their battle. Got passed initially after a mistake at turn 1 but put the car in a good position on the outside. Oscar went past a bit early, lost DRS for the second zone, outbraked himself and locked up on the inside line, and so Lando got the cutback done. Very nice driving.

Hopefully more of the same close racing next weekend. The weather is looking like typical British summer 🌦️ so I expect the Mercs to be back in the battle along with Max, and of course the British GP GOAT going for win number 10.

Yeah he did good. Of course he made the mistake that made Piastris move possible in the first place, but his defending was great after that.

Tough track to lead in the first place given you have to use all your battery to defend from the basically constant DRS the car chasing has.

This was our view of the start - as a Max fan, it was a bit of a downer not seeing him go past again.

McLarens were a different league from the rest - visibly more stuck to the track than the others.

If anybody goes next year, I can recommend Easy Camping for parking - very slick and efficient in and out on Saturday and Sunday
