Despite being back-to-back with the first race after the summer break, a mid-season driver swap has occurred before this race. How will Franco Colapinto do on his debut at the temple of speed in Monza, a classic circuit raced on and well known by all teams and drivers. Or so they thought... The circuit layout has not changed, but a resurfacing project over the winter means the teams all have new tarmac, a wider first Chicane and many redesigned kerbs to learn in the first few practice sessions. Will the new tarmac give enough grip to see the new fastest ever F1 lap? We will only find out at the ITALIAN GRAND PRIX!

Yep, the way he spins it to scrub off speed definitely says brake failure.

10 minutes in and Kimi Antonelli has lost the rear of the car into the Parabolica corner.

Yeah a weird one. It just lost rear grip mid-corner without any obvious steering or throttle inputs that were wrong.

Still, I'm more worried about the tyre barrier that seemed to have fallen apart. They don't look properly bolted together and I don't like it when tyre walls fall apart.

There's a few drivers had similar looking incidents in exactly that spot now. Could it be an issue with the new surface rather than the cars ?

Unfortunate for Kimi during FP1. If the expectations for rookies are still that they go out, learn some stuff, have fun but bring the car back in 1 piece then that's not a good look at all for a start. He looks like he was flying from the start maybe he should have taken it a bit easy and build up more confidence. Anyway, rumour has it, he was supposed to be announced this weekend as the driver to replace Lewis.

In other news, red bull doesn't look particularly quick here either. Looks like the fight might be between McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes with Max in the mix and Perez in P8.

Unless the weather says something about that, 40% chance of rain with storms around the area.
