Hey all. I've been away from the ps/2 lately, but have had an urge to start runnin the F1 championship once I get time again. I would like feedback concering what car to use, but I want it to be as competitive as possible with the AI 94/s. Obviously, I dont want to drive an F1, so my choices are down to these:

R390 LM, TS020 Race, 787b = - too fast?

ZZII, Speed 12, SARD - too slow maybe?

Escudo - certainly not the right car for this challenge

The idea I've been tossing around it this:

There's a way, using MK's, to make a road car appear as a race car (I dont remember how to do it, maybe you do?).

What do you think about turning the TS020 ROAD car into a race car (wont change anything except the acceptence into the race). Would it be too slow? I've tested the difference between TS020 road vs. ZZII, and the TS020 has it by 1.5 seconds at mid-field, but yet it's slower than the 787b. Just a thought,.....

Good luck racing

Personally I feel that the Nissan is more driveable. It is much easier to find the cars limit, and stay on that limit, without going over the limit. The Toyota, however being faster, is much harder to constantly stay on the limit, and is very easy to exceed the limit. You will find much more consistent lap times with the Nissan I think.

It just depends on your skill really. If you want to be as precise as possible about this, you should go into preview mode, then write the times down of the first two laps of the F1 cars for each track. Then you go and see with which car you get closest to those two laps. You'll also have to take into account how often the AI pits and how often you will have to pit and add or detract time from the flying laptime accordingly.

Requires a lot of testing but is an absolute guarantee for an exciting race. Of course if a car is too fast, like the R390, GT-One and 787B seem to be, you can always also decide not to tune it all the way.

Oh yeah, road to race is just a matter of changing the cartype. FFFF FFFF FFFF FFFF is a Road car, FFEF FFFF FFFF FFFF is a Race Car, if I remember correctly from the top of my head.

Why don't you just recommend ReR using a Pitz ?!?!?

Seriously though, I think the Road car or the Sard. That just would be awesome to watch those cars tear up the competition in F1s

Great idea Arwin,... I could do that for every track, and narrow down which cars are going to be more competitive at which track 👍 exxxxxxxxxcelllllent :D

Like, I know the big three will anihalate the AI at mid-field, but the SARD will be anihalated at Cote,..... hmmmmm,... this could be fun,. maybe even a challenge once I get it figured out :D

You should also be taking into account the pit intervals. When you race anything other than an F1 car, you have to remember you will have to pit a lot less with Super Slick tires on. You may be actually slower than them on track, but if you put Super Slick's on, you will spend less time in the pits, seeing as they will last you roughly 20 laps, whereas the F1 tires only last 5 laps until they become undriveable.

Hi Red Eye Racer & Welcome Back:
:D Below is an excerpt from a conversation I had w/"DerAlta" last nite. He's encouraging me in my "Stalled" quest to beat the game using only "Road Cars."

As to the ZZII. One of the first things I noticed on obtaining "MK's" software was that the ZZII is indeed listed as a "Race Car." Although I still haven't tried it against the F-1s a couple of things have transpired since we first discussed my "Quest." I think I told you that upon learning I couldn't use the GT1 "Road" version that I had tried a GT1 "Race" version on T2's & was soundly trounced by the F-1s @ Grand Valley. (BTW: this was an ALMOST Un-Tuned but MAX HP Car.)

Since then we 've used a R390 in "boom's" weekly challenge. After I got the chassis sorted out (Something I'm still NOT good at) I boosted the HP to MAX, installed T4s & took on the F-1s @ Tokyo 246. Beat them handily!!! What this taught me is that my first attempt had Too much HP for the Tyres & NOT Enough attention paid to the chassis.

The ZZII is one of my favorites & was the first car to earn me laps good enough to post @ GT3Times. W/tyre choice to try & pit w/the leader & proper chassis tuning I WILL give it a try even though it's down about 240 odd HP from the R390...UB57

OK, I know this is a little "Long Winded" but just wanted to let you know someone else finds this an interesting challenge as well. I love the ZZII set-up you sent me but still don't think that I have the Talent to pull it off. Would not be surprised if YOU could do it however, so my vote's for the ZZII 👍...UB57
:D

Thanx UB  and thanx for the feedback 👍 Though I disagree on one point,... you do have the talent to pull it off, it's your steering wheel's limitations that are holding you back ;)

👍 Thanx RER !!! 👍
:D Actually MOMO is in the Building !!! I've had it for a coupla days & find it AMAZING!!! Just have to adapt to 100% Braking & learning how to use Manual Trans. Gave up on the "Blue Wheel" shifting long ago & was forced to use AT. So far am THRILLED w/control the MT gives. (No more "Lifting/Braking" just to fool the trans into shifting.) Keep us apprised of your progress & Thanx Again...UB57

The f094 can usually go about 8 laps before it pits if I remember correctly and I think 10 on cote, if the AI is good at anything it's conserving tires on F1 cars.

K, so I can plan on AI pitting about 3 times each race then,.... k,...

Trouble shooting #'s in my head, I'm affraid I'll have to do a lot of TS on the track,... hmmmm,..... this is gonna be good once I figure it out though :D :D

Glad to hear about the MOMO UB 👍 How have you compensated for the "off-center" issue? Have you had any problems?

:D I've been "Calibrating" in "Options" a lot, seems to work sometimes & not to work others. Also had a "Glitch" session a few minutes ago where game kept "Pausing" DURING a Lap!!! Un-plugged & re-plugged the USB & it seemed to go away. My biggest problem is EXCESSIVE FEEDBACK w/hi HP cars. Tried to take a spin on Tokyo 246 w/R390 @ 1205 HP & on the front straight the wheel almost jumps out of my hands!!! It had LESS feedback on Tahiti Maze!!! Any suggestions???...UB57

I drive with an 'arms straight out and locked' method,...... seems to help 👍

:D It's more of an annoyance than anything. Tried the Vertigo @ Rome & an ARTA NSX @ DF2 both w/around 700 HP & NO SHAKE. Will try the R390 on another track & see if it goes away. (I seem to recall a Post where someone stated that certain chassis settings would bring on the "Heebie-Jeebies" w/MOMO wheel, will try to find it.) Thanx Again...UB57

Yeah I actually just did an experiment on Apricot Hill. I took my hybrided R390 with 1504hp weighing 765 kg's, F094/S brakes, etc... I put Super Slick's on, which lasted me the whole race. However, although I destroyed the other F1 cars, the lone F094/S had a staggering pace, pitting every 10 laps, I just couldn't keep up, needless to say I finished a good 20 seconds behind, but 30 seconds ahead of the rest. :p :banghead:

RER: take a look at my compendium (www.deralta.net/compendium). Pan all the way down to the bottom, and I've got a pretty well documented run of the F1 sereis, that lists when the AI pit, and their total track times.

I've used this in the past to estimate that I might be able to pull off the F1 series in an R390. Knowing of your skill and UB57's I'd be confident in placing a bet that you both could run it in the ZZII.

If you do run it in the ZZII, I'd be very interested in seeing your results as i'll have a bit more research to base my attempt on.

Good luck guys.

Thanks guys, It took many months to get it together, but it's info that I couldn't find anywhere else on the internet.

Glad it helps out!

Don't use any horsepower upgrades for "the big three" at Midfield and see if the times will be closer between you and the AI F1's.

well, I took my attempt at this the past weekend. Fully outfitted R390 sitting atop T2's. First place at Midfield, and a 3rd place at Seattle (looks like my curse holds solid). This one will likely take me a while, so the write-up will be a few weeks/month away.
