Formula E will host a race in Hong Kong in October 2016 as part of its season three schedule, it has been confirmed.

Motorsport.com revealed last month that a deal for a Hong Kong race, as well as a visit to Australia, was close to being completed as part of an autumn Asia-Pacific leg.

Subject to FIA track homologation, the event will take place on October 9, 2016, using a two-kilometre layout close to the Victoria Harbour.

“The Hong Kong ePrix will be one of the highlights on the FIA Formula E Championship calendar," commented Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag.

"As one of the most innovative, cutting-edge and fun-loving cities in the world, Hong Kong and Formula E share many of the same qualities.

"We look forward to bringing all the fun and entertainment of Formula E to this amazing city, and international motorsport back to Hong Kong.”

The second season of Formula E commences in just over two weeks' time with the Beijing ePrix, which Motorsport.com understands is set to be replaced as the opening round by Montreal for season three.

They will be racing at the foot of the IFC (the building Batman and Lara Croft jumped off) next to the newly reclaimed waterfront park and observation wheel. I can imagine they chose this area because the roads can be closed off easily (its not a main thoroughfare).

I wonder if they will make it a night race? It would look so much more amazing at night.

I can see turn 2 having lots of overtaking :).

They would not make it a night race. How can you promote a supposed eco-friendly race with all those lights on?

Sometimes 90' corners are easy to defend because the line is so narrow. I guess it'll all come down to the width, and how they set the curbs for this particular corner.

I hope it's a good one though. On paper, this looks to be one of FE's better track designs 👍

Edit: just to add, I think T1 will be the best overtaking spot if people can alter their lines through T10 to get a run before diving under braking. T6 looks like it might be inviting for the more adventurous drivers.

Nathaniel Berthon has joined Team Aguri and completes the field.

The Beijing e-Prix is 1 week away, so suppose we can start voting for the FanBoost now.

I haven't been following Formula E news lately, but... the new season starts NEXT WEEK? Boy, am I behind on times!

Last year, when FE launched, I was skeptical. Now, with most series being finished or close to it, and with F1 a forgone conclusion, I'm actually looking forward to the start of the Formula E season. I'm excited to see how they build off of last year.

I had been ignoring it slightly as I read that it had moved over to Eurosport. I saw an advert for it on ITV4 yesterday though so now I'm backing the series once again!

Looking forward to seeing all of the powertrain differences across a race day, intriguing that there are so many varied directions being trialled...

Trulli just can't catch a break, can they? :indiff:

Wish I could watch it, but right now, my only motorsport option is the FIM Speedway GP, a sport that I really don't understand.

Very strange it isn't being broadcast on Fox Sports here in Australia. I was really looking forward to it.

Heidfeld seems to have caught his break already this year.

Now watch him crash :indiff:
