I am not going to get a better lap out of a DS2. I’ll submit this lap and it’s unlikely I’ll improve. I am totally happy with the lap.

That's still better than my best! Sheesh! And this is distressing, so early in the morning!

Rather uncharacteristically, everybody seems to getting off like scalded cats, despite the fact that this IS knockout qualifying. It still is sort of odd, and I actually regret doing so, but at least I'm in.

I would start, but so far, nothing has changed. That's not to the fault of Earth, however; he's doing great with running this series.

I don’t get this knockout qualifying idea… I thought qualifying would work as normal.

Is that a question or a statement? Because Earth wanted to follow contemporary rules from Formula 1 to apply for Formula GT, and this is one of them. This could be for reducing backmarkers for pole-runners, or to tensen qualifying in a sudden-death fight, to really quicken the pace for the teams.

About 1/3 of the drivers in the series are knocked out of the first round, and we qualify from there, then another 1/3 get cut, and the final 5 go for pole.

If a statement: same here, because since we cannot all race at the same time, it would be easier for conventional qualifying to take place, but it would be a hassle trying to record the laps of 15 racers through what could be a knockout round.

Edit: I realized now that it is not November 18th, it is the 17th! I got some racing to do!

Update!: I turned in 13'519! But, it is under careful review; I fiddled with downforce. The lap was clean, however. Even if it doesn't pass, I would still run sixth at this point.

Ah, that race is tricky. On my final stint I spun on cold tyres… so damn annoying to lose 10 seconds like that after a good run. I have, however, worked out the majority of the variables in my strategy so I just need to to get a good run together. :ouch:

It’s interesting to see a twitch through 3 & 4 cost significant time over 2–3 laps as you lose momentum onto the S/F straight and it just takes forever to get it all back…

Are you doing this in Gran Turismo mode? Last time I recall you cant change downforce in arcade. I think your not allowed to change the suspesion ethier.

Looks like at the pole, Suzuka and Fuji are dead even. Gosh, not only is the racing tight, but so is the pole!

You can change suspension? Well, I guess so. I am doing it in GT Mode; my F1 car still hasn't come, even after completing FGT! Other than that, qualifying is still very much the same as it would be in Arcade Mode, so not much has changed, save no tire wear. I could be turning in sub-13'5s as a possibility if I had the car in Arcade Mode!

I cannot finish Nurburgring 24 Hours; my brothers won't let me without a hefty bribe. I will try to sneak it in next weekend, however...

Umm… You’re supposed to run it in Arcade mode. :dunce:

Oh well, I guess I’ll be the first to post warmup splits. I have a 12.866 atm.

I took 6 seconds off my previous run, but I spun on the last stint (again!) so there’s about 8 or 10 more seconds that I can take off it.

Now I feel as if i really am in Formula 1. Everybody towards the end of qualifying geos out for a desprate attempt at a fast lap. Right now theres really only 2 days left for qualifying to end. The only person Im worried about is Pepe13 for the time being:scared:All the people in the top four are in the 5 tenths range, that also worries me. There will be groans considering how close people are running right now.

You only have to worry about 1 person. I'm worried about far more than that. As it stand now i'd be in 5th I think. However, there are only splits so you never know what the lap times end up being.

OK some updates

- THe points table has been moved to post #4.
- be sure to keep an eye on the first post for updated articles

- The qualifying format is your basic format, and I will try to post the results live over a period of time or 'rounds' to resemble knockout qualifying

However superberkut makes great points about a TRUE knockout qualifying system.

The German Grand Prix will feature a poll asking about whether or not you want true knockout qualifying to be instituted at Monaco.

The basics for a true knockout qualifying session would be that you enter your 3 fastest qualifying times.

Let's say your 3 fastest q times are

1'20.000
1'20.200
1'20.300

Let's say my 3 fastest q times are

1'19.900
1'20.205
1'20.305

Your slowest time pf 1'20.300 would be compared to my slowest time of 1'20.305. If those times are faster then 33% of the field then we would advance to round 2 where everyone's 2nd fastest time would be compared. Another 33% of drivers would be eliminated leaving only the top 33% of drivers. Now everyone's fastest laps would be compared. Notice how even though you were faster then me through the first 2 rounds If my fastest lap was faster then your fastest then I would qualify ahead of you.

Another twist would be that if your fastest lap was the fastest lap of anyone it wouldn't matter if your 2nd and 3rd fastest laps weren't good enough to get you to the next round

I think that is a very exciting Formula for pole position. Look for the poll next round.

Have I mentioned I miss the days of *real* qualifying in Formula 1? The format for this season and last has been an improvement on the boredom of single-lap, but I still prefer the old one hour session.

The knockout format could be a lot more interesting but could also be a lot more annoying and frustrating. It's hard getting one perfect lap, let alone 3 to feel confident you'll move through the rounds.

times submitted, oh oh!!:scared: i did not saw the prac session and now i'm dead last....:ouch::grumpy: with no time to do more pac sessions 👎

You don't have to really worry about me yet, this race is going to be only close one the whole season I bet. Once we get on some road courses (no the ring or Monaco - I'm not the best there) I'll turn up the heat some as I'm sure Pepe will too. Go Honda.

ok the deadline for q times is winding down.

I am happy to report 11 of the 15 drivers have sent a qualifying time in so far with plenty of time left

However, this will probably be the only round where I post the results at a set time, or LIVE, as I simply realized it is impossible for me to make such a commitment every week

Cool, I hope we can keep this level of interest throughout the season. :)

That very good news. I just hope there are no slackers here for they are what usually ruin a great series, but thae attendance is great so far.

I was gonna ask how were you gonna do that.

It's also a little odd since we're all working to midnight in our respective time zones, ie Blake and I get screwed by several hours and thus should have a bonus tenth deducted from our times for every 5 hours ahead of GMT we are.

Now there is a time I can belive. A 13'519 didnt seem possible without going under the line. Still a good split 👍

Well... (colours) I was doing it in GT Mode, as I needed some supplementary times while I got my FGT in Arcade Mode. It is possible while going clean, but I lobbed off a whole lot of downforce, so, as it can't be done in Arcade Mode, it would have been illegal anyways.

But at your pace, you could probably lap under 13.4 with that!

Thanks Earth. However, if the race warm-up is before the Pacific GP, and it is decided during the race... or am I getting it confused with qualifying sessions?

Race warm up is simply your best split time during the race

Edit: What doomed me is that I thought my .468 would be fast enough so I quit several days before the deadline and what do you know, the practice times started to fall dramaticly, but it was too late for me to do anything, as I had already viewed the qualifying times of others. :(

Here is my qualifying lap replay

Nice work, ridiculously close for the top 3 slots, gaps start to spread further down the field. The race will be interesting for seeing who can actually work strategy and consistency best.

Bah. Qualified in 6th place. I had a 25.393 lap, but it wasn't clean! I knew that would have sealed the deal! Alas, I couldn't even hold a candle to it afterwards. Curses! This race should be fun.

WOW! .007 for the Poduim. Thats amazing. Never thought I would get poduim first time out but its only qualifying. But for the race im going with patience and consistensy. I wonder where Loon went? Havent heard from him in for some time. Nor the fact that he didnt turn in a qualifying time.
