The New Battle
Written by: RACECAR
Sonoma, California – 02/18/2008

While only Three cars are left to finish off the final two races, It has already become an interesting match. SuperBerkut and the Mobius F1 team Scored their first win of the season at the Japanese grand prix by just a second over defending champion RACECAR.

R:: You have won your first race by a narrow margin over RACECAR. How does it feel?

SB: It feels incredible. I mean, one-tenth of a second may be a lot in such high-speed sports, but considering that many other races in the season had large margins between the competitors, the Pacific GP aside, well, I suddenly realize that had I slipped up anywhere during my run, I would have lost certain victory. And against the reigning World Champion... I am beyond words here.

R: You seemed to have improved in all the sessions. What did you do differently?

SB: Well, I use a DS2 controller (privateers, eh?), so I adapted a different technique for holding the controller so as not to cramp my hand. I also know Tokyo R246 quite well, but on top of that, I visualized the course before the race. Sports require mental effort as well as physical exertion, and nowhere is it more pronounced than in motorsport. I knew that I could run best at this circuit, so I took more risks than I did at, say, the French GP, because I knew that I may have had a good chance at taking the race. It was for this reason that I also practiced more at the circuit.

R: Even without a shot at the championship, do you have something for RACECAR?

SB: Well, I have to congratulate him for a fine race at this time, and to thank him for his courtesy and the fine display of sportsmanship in congratulating me for the win, however being a rookie I believe that I really have nothing to offer. He is a skilled driver in his own right, with experience and motivation on his side. Right now, my main opponents could be amemyarz if things continue in this fashion, or if Blake or GT4 defistation return, I will definitely have to work for a spot on the championship podium. All I can say to RACECAR is, "What are you going to do to celebrate?" It is almost certain he will take the second title, but he deserves it, having been a steward under awkward circumstances and showing fine consistency throughout the season.

R: Based on your dramatic change in performance, do feel that you can contend for a championship next season?

SB:Perhaps. I still have trouble with some circuits, but I am now satisfied with my driving, and if I can train for next season effectively, yes, I could contend for a title next year. I look forward to what this season would bring. However, it could be argued that straws are being grasped at here because this is just one race. My high finish at La Sarthe was based on a lack of contenders, and even the next race in this same season has given me trouble. However, I feel that I can make it possible.

It would appear that even while RACECAR has no opposition for the championship, Superberkut is now a force to be reckoned with and the next races could be a preview of potentially a championship run.

times are also being submitted today.
hehe this is a guaranteed win for me after logging in oh about 14 hours of non-stop racing.

You WHAT?

By the way, there is no February 30th. Only 29 this year.

amemyarz, regarding the Japanese Grand Prix, did you save your game afterwards? You can check the final time in the records section on the pre-race menu.

haha is that to little for u?

no I didn't save it. Is it really that important?
because after that many hours on the PS2, I shut it off right when I wrote down the time and slept.

Well, yes, it is important now. This final time would be your qualifying time, and a point is at stake here. You could either be tied with me, or I could be leading you by 2 points...

oh I see.
but then again RACECAR might beat us both.
speaking of RACECAR, u almost done yet?
not to nag or anything.

Yep, Check post one and Congrats 👍 Here you are talking about getting a good finish and you already have good start.

Of course. Just remember the deadline for your times.

So, are times due February 29th, or March 1st? On my calendar, February 30th does not exist.

Looks like the competition is becoming slightly rekindled...

Whoops, I just relised that. Date corrected.

Hey I was running some test laps here with your posted settings... Ran about 50 laps and sadly only made it around without spinning about 15 of those, but I got a 1'07.9xx in the books. Any qualms with me trying to give these final two races a shot?

Though I am not the steward, I personally have no objections. Just choose a current team (you'll have to dig down in the sign-up thread to find one) and state your nationality (though it may already be on your location box), and you're virtually all set. Do you plan to come next year, too?

This dead-line came to meet me quickly...

Edit: I see that you are American. Nationality question solved, I believe there is a slot on one more dormant team.

My teammate left... (Hint)

My first attempt was grand I pitted with 2 laps left and ended up being slower then my b-spec driver was in a test race!!! I'll be fine with a last place finish though, it's super fun trying to keep the rear-end of this car from coming around at this place. It'll be a fight to get in my best effort but it'll be a joy out on the track!

Times submitted. Had to do a 3-stopper and I wasn't too happy about that, but the car was nervous everywhere, which allowed me to get a pretty good amount of oversteer going in the turns that required it. I'm definitely not faster than amemyarz but I'm holding out hope for a 2nd place finish.

Time submitted! I ended up doing a 2 stop race but I lost quite a bit of time on the pit in laps because I was pushing to hard early on in the runs. I got it corrected by the last lap though and didn't lose quite as much time. Don't think I can touch my fellow team member but I think I did alright... Best news is I beat my B-Spec driver ( aka Bob )

Good Luck Everyone!

Brian

congrats. Now to wait until tomorrow for the results.

BTW, this is a pretty fun race because we have 5 contenders compared to our usual 3. 👍

Results posted. Congrats SuperBerkut 👍 Amemyarz, Looks like you are now a championship rival.

How did he average 49 seconds per lap if I got the fastest lap with a 1'07?

Also, I'm still Swiss.

He has lost his times so he tryed memorize them. I am confused myself on that as well. As for the flag issue, I'm trying to find it but I've had no luck.

Yeah there is no possible way he could have fnished the race in 19 minutes thats less then a minute a lap. Can we get some replay verification on that please?

Internet, nice hot lap buddy thats pretty darn fast!

amemyarz, after all is said and done I think a first and 3rd place finish for our first race together is a job well done. We'll have to wait and see what they do about SuperBerkut.

Congrats.

Brian

RACECAR:

Disregard my PM. I thought the race was 16 laps long! Therefore, my time was reasonable, but not for this Grand Prix. Please pardon me; this was indeed a foolish error. I apologize.

I will rerun the race today, if my schedule permits.

Or, alternatively, shall I not receive points for running 2/3 the race? I may not be able to rerun it in the first place, and I would not want to delay the series any longer.

Its fine man. I understand an honest mistake and as long you come clean, we can keep it going. The results have been updated and Amemyarz, congratulations 👍
