Formula GT World Chamionship... impossible?

Formula GT World Chamionship in the Extreme series.

Is this even possible to win? I can't even stay remotely close to the pack. I've tried the first race twice and was getting lapped on the fifth lap. I tried the second track once and was lapped on the fourth lap. WTF!? :ouch:

I'm using the stock car with RS tires.
 
Yes it is. I won that on my first try... Just didn t race the last circuit becaus i was tired and i had enough points to save 1st place.
 
It's certainly possible, I can stay ahead for about 9 laps before I make a dumb mistake and they catch me. As long as I'm careful, I could win, I just lack patience.

...and practice, obviously.

yeah... little mistakes are ok but if you spin its really hard to catch up
 
It's possible to win it. The 1st time I did the race, I got the 1st 2 or 3 races podium, but on Monaco, I got a bit tired but kept going. Unfortunately, I got 6th or 7th place, but didn't messed up my overall points though. Same thing happened with Suzuka. And It was raining, too, so I arrived in last place. I was pretty lucky I got 1st overall, with 10 points more than 2nd and 3rd. I don't think I can do that again, though. The FGT was kinda difficult to control in stock w/ RM tires, & the AI made it a bit worse.

Difficult, but not impossible.
 
It is most definitely not impossible, but it will punish you for every mistake. This was the truest test of my dualshock skill and the one series that made me the most bleary eyed of them all. You just have to be a trooper and get your brain used to the speed of the vehicle, then the requisite practice comes in to ruin the party. I was proud of my gold once achieving the victory to be sure.

Just because you crash 9 laps in, does not mean you won't win. I know....:)

The championship isn't easy for sure, but it's quite possible. Cote d'Azur is notoriously difficult (though there is a great FGT tune around here designed to beat it), but the rest shouldn't be too hard. Tuning helps an awful lot on these tracks in general, specifically adjusting your transmission for each track. If you have trouble with Cote, you can still gold the championship with a last place finish on one track, so don't give up hope. You can always come back and gold Cote individually.

done it with DS3 too... DFGT was a hard fail :dopey:
 
This championship is longer and more challenging than some of the enduros.

I completed it with a 6axis but didn't run the final race since it was lashing it down. Luckily I had enough points in the bag to take the series win.

Went back recently armed with a wheel and it doesn't get any easier! Monaco, Cote d'Azure especially with its tight hairpins.

Still no good in the wet either.

My tips: Auto gears, 2-3 degrees of camber, all the driver aids you need and the right gear settings. Most are 240-255, but cote is about 180.
 
I didn't do Cote d'Azur or Suzuka but I won all the others so won the championship.

I recently went back to fill in the missing races and found Cote wasn't really that hard IF you charge to first at the start. Then you can drive somewhat defensively and keep the lead. It's tiresome and not really fun but it's a win.

Suzuka I will do but both times I've tried it was raining.
 
What is your major problem ??
Car ?? too much oversteer ??

Well I did following (I have 4 FGT´s by the way):
I took one of my FGT´s to all of the Tracks in the Championship.
Made my Gear-Settings so I have optimal Speed (no max revving at the main straight plus a bit of "spare-speed" in case I can draft).
But I had a problem. The Cars front could Corner better then the rear => spin.
I tried different LSD and Suspension settings but the result was the same as above but a little less.
Then I decided to force Understeer and lowered the Front Downforce. Wow was my reaction. My problem was gone and I (!!) was 1second faster (or more depends on Track).
Max the rear downforce (90) and have 70-65 at the front => 20-25 less then rear.

Try it eventually it works for you too. But get comfortable with the Tracks and mainly with the FGT and then you will gold this Championship ;)

i think the extreme series seasonal is waaay harder. the FGT Championship seems so hard because it's just a major step upward from a bunch of races that are not so hard with a fast car.

definitely look into the setup thread (second post in this one), and remember that practice is the only way.

i repeat: PRACTICE IS THE ONLY WAY. :)
 
Besides the last three enduros this is all I have left. I just don't have the skill with something that twitchy. I'll try it someday
 
Not impossible but a great challenge, my favourite a spec series :)
Pm me if you need help with the set up, mainly toe, camber and LSD settings that make the difference here.
 
Also make sure you have max hp, so engine rebuild (or fully broken in) and oil change. ~936 I believe.

That's actually the key, along with practice in the car. Don't dream of winning this one without having driven the FGT extensively before. I won all of them except Monaco, where I came 3rd. I did a "bob" on the chicane after the tunnel, have never been mad at him for doing that since :).
All I did was tweak the transmission to match the track, as I was too scared to change the set up and mess everthing up (yes I have played GT4 too much).
 
I found fuji speedway to be the hardest so i just made the mistake of repeatedly restarting that event in order tom come first. The Formula gran turismo definitely requires different driving techniques. I for one love to power out of a corner with pretty much every car i drive, but if you do this with the FGT it will spin 90% of the time. You need to slow into a turn and wait until youre driving close to dead straight to put full power down, even with a DS3 you can feather the triggers to apply some acceleration during a turn. The car just needs practice, i made sure i practiced on the japanese events and stuff to get this cars handling under control.
 
For me it just took some practice. The first time I entered the FGT Race, I performed almost exactly as you did, and dropped out after lap 6. It was due to the fact that the performance and handling of the car demands practice to master. So, I designed a very wide (IE - forgiving) practice track in course maker and learned how to drive the car. The thing that helped me here was having a lot of "road" to learn on if I missed corners, and I could track my lap times to monitor improvement. I then re-entered the Championship, and it almost became easy. Knowing how to drive the car made simple techniques like drafting and over taking much easier to accomplish. So, even though it is echoed over and over, unfortunately the only "trick" to a race like this one is practice. Even I won this championship, and I did it before the save feature was enabled. It's a test of patience and precision. But, a well setup car helps immensely.
 
is there not the mid championchip save? if yes its really no problem
It's not a save as such - the 'suspend race' function allows you to pause the tournament (and quit GT5), but it doesn't let you save the game so that you can reload from that save point if the next race goes badly... you just restart exactly where you left off.

I used this tune, and I also took the 'easy option' of equipping racing soft tyres. It still makes for some tough races - I only won at the Nurburgring with a margin over 10 seconds.

You can keep the same tune/set-up for each race, but changing the transmission (top speed) setting does help - e.g. set it lower for twistier circuits... that said, I forgot to change the settings for the first three races, and I still won at Monaco despite having a wider gearing.
 
this lies as challenging, as Expert Seasonals, you have to be mentally prepared, and find a good tune. Took me a week of tinkering to get the gold. also, the only aid you can use (to calm nerves a bit) = skid recovery force, and ABS @1, all else off.

you can turn off skid recovery, but you may spin out with it on or off anyways.

use automatic for Cote D'azur with crazy low gear ratios, and high Accel / Decel LSD.

don't expect to win gold by large margins, but you can lead the pack, and if you fall to 6th or so, you will catch up as long as you keep them in your sights.

Modulate throttle like you squeeze a trigger from a high recoil gun.

if you use a gamepad for this, then may the lord almighty be with (all of) you.
 
I won every race in the event. You'll have to work on your setup.
