Formula One Replaces Grid Girls with Grid Kids Program for 2018 Season

Imagine having parents that can fund a young karting career!!! M O N E Y is V A S T L Y more significant than exposure!

Money is important yes, but so what? It’s more important to grow F1 in the eyes of young people than it is to pay models. It’s why all other major professional sports do it around the world...

Hamilton’s father worked two jobs to fund his Karting career, not all drivers come from wealth. Yes motorsports is expensive but fostering the love and support in young people is crazy important.

Also I’m pretty sure I read that it’s not going to be limited to Karting schools, local clubs and schools will also be getting involved. And remember F1 is in an environment where European TV coverage is being locked behind (you’ll love this) an E X P E N C I V E paywall called S K Y (sorry if I misspelled something). So making sure F1 fosters a constant growing and young audience is crazy important for the future of the sport.

If anyone thinks that the issue with getting kids into motorsport is awareness then they are on the wrong train. The issue with getting kids into motorsport is money.. yes I'm going to spell it M O N E Y. Grid Kids will NOT address the exclusive nature of the sport to even 0.0000001% of a degree. You can pretend Anthony Hamilton working two jobs somehow makes it accessible, I'll accept that his rivals at the time were backed by families with 7 figure sums, and I'll accept that because I occasionally drink with someone that has raced against him.

And yes.. F1 being behind a paywall is a M A S S I V E issue (see I'm spelling it out again because I believe it's a problem). Grid Kids will not affect this. My F1-superstar-wannabe god son will not be watching F1 in 2019... he is a massive Hamilton fan, he will be gutted.. he won't see many grid kids because F1 decided it was going to hand over all its coverage to the largest over the air broadcaster of subscription porn in the country #jobsforthegirls

Nothing about this makes any logical sense beyond someone deciding it's what they want. It's going to happen anyway, so there's no need to make up bull **** reasons why it's a good thing.

And how do you go about making a sport cheaper and more accessable? hmmmm....
