So do I buy Forza 4 or save for a DFGT for GT5?

Even though I've completed most of the events for GT5, I find that I keep coming back just for the joy of driving and experiencing different cars. When i play forza its almost like driving on autopilot and all there is to do is complete the events.

I've tried the DFGT before at a car show with GT5 prologue(Lotus Evora at London). At the time I was quite experienced at playing Forza with a wheel. I thought "lol these people are crap, I'll show them how to drive!" :) When I had my turn the driving feel really wierd like the steering rack was loose and there was little resistance to steering. I ended up bouncing off all sort of walls :(

Going from prologue to GT5 with a DS3 was a massive improvement, so I'd like to know how much of a change there is with a wheel.

Having tried Forza last weekend and already owning a DFGT I'd start saving...

get a G27 if you could

Since you're asking this question in the GT5 sub-forum, most of the answers you'll get are going to be heavily biased. I'm going to be completely impartial, (since I'm a fan of both GT and Forza) and recommend you buy Forza 4.

Forza 4 is a very good game and a big improvement on the previous Forza games (which were already great), the new driving physics are top notch and the cars feel properly alive. The graphics have been improved over FM3 and the sounds are the best I've ever experienced in a racing game. The car selection is top-notch, with many legendary cars included. The AI are clever and they adapt to your driving style, if you're a clean driver, they'll learn to drive clean, if you're a dirty driver, they'll drive dirty. The only downsides are the lack of new tracks (although the selection is good) and a few inaccurate car models. (Honda S2000 springs to mind)

Overall, I'd rate Forza 4 as a fantastic game and a must have for any racing game fan. I personally play both Forza 4 and Gran Turismo 5 regularly and they're both brilliant games. You should get Forza 4, as contrary to popular belief, you are allowed to be a fan of both the GT series AND the Forza series.

I'd recommend Forza 4 because owning both it and GT5 basically covers all fronts in the console simulation genre. Ideally, if you don't mind saving for a while, getting a wheel that would work for both games down the road could really improve things too.

Also, while FM3 didn't have much to do other than World Tour if you didn't have a bunch of buddies to race with, FM4's introduced Rivals mode, which works like an improved version of NFS' Autolog, keeping track of your friends' placements on leaderboards. It also pays very handsomely, the bounties adding up quickly. Apparently (I personally can't confirm), Rivals even works with a Silver account. So there is that.

I'd go for the wheel first, and wait for a good deal to pop up on Forza. It's a great game sure, but it'll still be a great game when you get around to picking it up and the wheel just makes GT5 so much more enjoyable. Heck, you may luck out and catch a "complete pack" on Forza similar to what they did with F3.

Oh, this reminded me: if you happen to be in the US and near a Wal-Mart: there's a good deal to be had today.

Well that sucks!!!! I was just talking to my wife about getting an XBox and Forza 4.... well... I guess we will just pay more one day then.

For the OP comment, A game is a game and there are Forza haters here and GT Haters in the Forza realm... and I dont care... I think if you want another game, go with Forza... But I already have a DFGT wheel (and planning a G27 in the not so distant future) and the way I understand it is the wheels work on BOTH systems... But the DFGT has buttons that you have to program Forza to see... but again, I could be wrong but my plan was to use my DFGT with Forza too (if I went that way myself)

Game - Something new, especially with GT being over a year old now
Wheel - Changes the way you play racing sims (after a little bit lap time WILL increase! ;) )

Don't you mean the lap times will decrease, as in get better (lower) lap times? However initially you will be slower but it is much more fun (IMO).

dude get the wheel. No point getting another game just so you can bum through a two racings game with another controller.

I am by no means a noob with the ds3. I was only about a second or so slower than the winner of the first GT Academy time trial with the ds3.

I got used to my DFGT at my friends place cos he's got a good set up and now I am horrible with the ds3. I can still win A spec events but trying to be competitive online or time trial, forget it. I don't know how I managed in the past.

Still dont have a place to put my DFGT at home so I use the ds3. I don't even enjoy thee game much because of it.

Wheel first...
forza is probably a solid game, but you don't see anyone replacing the wheel in their production cars with a joystick.. so...

TBH, if I owned PD, I'd drop DS# support entirely and allow ONLY wheels.

thanks for the opinions guys! :) can anyone describe the transition from gt5p to GT5 with a wheel?

Lol... yeah.... that was a wonderful sales pitch typo.... lol

I'd suggest you get the wheel, you previous experience with GT5 Prologue might have been biased by the setup (low force feedback setup to accomodate weaker players/kids, poorly treated wheel, extensive use that led to weakened motors)..

I've bought the DFGT 6 months ago and it is a blast to use. The only gripes I have is the material of the wheel ( plastic gets incomfortable after a while ), and the poor gear shifting paddles. Otherwise, it's a great value for a 1st wheel :)
btw : there are no cross compatible wheels for Forza and GT5 ... The problem's on the microsoft side, the only wheel that works on the XBox 360 is the official microsoft model.

Another thing to think about with Forza 4 is there are no long races unless you go online. I think 9 laps is the longest and with the world tour it takes you from track to track only letting you choose which car to race, no championships only the occasional 2 race series (same track) and no multi lap races of Nordschliefe.

I suggest waiting for Forza to become cheap.

As someone who doesn't connect well with Forza 4, I'd say you'd better try it with a wheel first before you jump into that deep end. Some people flat out hate it.

As for the DFGT, I own it and the G25 and the two wheels are remarkably similar in feel, which makes the DFGT quite a bargain. As for how to get used to it, do like I did in Forza 1. Get a low powered car that's still kind of fun to drive, turn on the racing line on a few tracks, and start doing Time Trial laps in Arcade Mode. That way, the Used Car Dealership won't advance on you. Then go to Arcade races and see if you can beat the bots on whatever difficulty you feel up to without bashing your way past them.

Dfgt is awesome for gt5, i love it still after a year..

I have had GT5 with the wheel for a while now and just picked up forza4 and I don't like playing with the controller. I say get the wheel first. The wheel will take a bit of getting used to but once you get the hang of it you'll love it!

Im glad to see some info on here about Forza and wheel compatibility... Give me new perspective for my own ideas...

Sorry had a few typos from my Android....

Both don't really make sense.

For me I'd have to say get the wheel- I got mine and it added a whole new dimension to GT5's gameplay. But it will take getting used to (I took about 2/3 hours to get half-decent), don't just give up within an hour and think that it's impossible- you'll soon get the hang of it and be having a lot more fun than with the controller. 👍

I have both Forza 4 and GT5. I also have the DFGT. I think your question really falls down to this: "New Game or DFGT".

The type and title of the game at this point shouldn't be a contributing factor as you're weighing the benefits of a game against a racing wheel. IMO it's a no brainer. If you have the money, a good wheel like the DFGT is what you should buy.

Forza is a great game, and I highly recommend the title to anyone who loves racing games.., but in this case I think a wheel is a much better investment.

Wheel. It'll renew your enjoyment of GT. After getting used to a wheel (G27), I'm constantly playing GT. Just all around a better experience and more potential for improvement in most cases. I'm sure there are some people out there that will always be better with a DS3, but that is probably very few.

You know you can still play the game in 2d mode with a wheel. HA see what u did there ¿

Cos u said using a wheel added "another dimension"! Classic xSNAKEx.

That was a worse joke than one of terry wogans.

Yes I have to say driving that Chaparral with a wheel is good fun...

Ha see what I did there ;)
